Speaking of ass pain, I had to come back from rishikesh to Delhi, 200kms sitting on the rear seat of r15 v2 ,while carrying a bag. Those 4 hours were the most disgusting, horrifying and torturous time of my life.

oh well, that steering/handlebar problem that i'd described about last week (a couple of pages back in this thread) started returning in the last couple of days..that day in svc 5 days ago i had insisted them to open it up and inspect but the mechanic just did a little something to the checknut and things were seemingly fine for a couple of days after that. but again in the last 2-3 days that abnormal slow-speed handling/feeling started growing gradually.

so went to svc again today and got hold of a more willing mechanic there. he opened it up and turns out the ball racer/steering bearing and coneset are damaged as i had initially suspected at the very beginning 7 days ago..more than half of the bearing was rusted somehow and as a result almost all of coneset was burnt and rusted..this was just the more easily detachable part of the setup (which lies with/in the checknut area)..there's a lower second component (which they called some name that i couldn't catch despite asking him thrice, thanks to his pan-filled mouth :P) inspecting which requires one to dismantle the whole front assembly (wheels, forks etc) and the work takes about at least 2 hours apparently, so couldnt get it done today as i had gone there in the dusk when the SVC was about to close within the hour....he just temporarily replaced the coneset with a new one for now and adjusted the checknut again...will go for the whole work later soon.

according to him, the reason isn't impacts over the year from speedbreakers or something as the previous mechanic had opined, but instead it became obvious that somehow some water must have gone into the thing and that's why it started rusting...it may have started doing so slowly long time ago but remained too negligible to have any feeling or consequence at all, but it must be that recently all its lubrication had probably gone off and in the couple of days of rain here 15 days ago (in which i rode about 20 kms or so) the water seeped in and started doing its work very fast and that's why i started feeling the abnormality all of a sudden only 7/8 days ago.

it's just one year and 7400 kms of the bike yet this happened so soon...i rarely wash the bike and it gets ridden in the wet much much less than everyone because i dont have any commuting purpose, the bike gets ridden almost entirely for general (and purpose-less, practically speaking) riding experience/fun and in the rains i have hardly ridden it much (the only times in rainy days that i have gone for rides are those occassional moods of feeling the rain and cool air, and maybe a few times for some practical purpose in the city)...of that 7400, probably only 1000 kms at most was in the wet conditions...

now reading in the internet about it i am seeing it written that this thing should be inspected periodically and if needed greased/lubricated, i am sure the same's written in the manual too.

if he has to change the lower component (inspecting which as i said requires dismantling the whole front setup) it will cost me about 2200 just for that and nearly 3000 in total..i forgot to ask him if the insurance claim would cover it, i hope it does.
Somehow, I have faced the same issue in both my Version 1 & Version 2. And, unfortunately, both bikes were ridden very little and in a very gentle manner. For the Version 1 I had to change the Ball-Racer after 5000 KMs and for the Version 2, i had to change the Ball Racer after 7K KMs. The only reasons behind this could be some bad patches of road that I have to cross every single day and I used to apply the Front Brake only. Recently I have started using both the brakes. However, every other month, I have to take my bike to the mechanic to get the check-nut tightened or else, the handle seems a bit wobbly.

Your problems are not due to bad roads. Heck, these types of setups have been used in motocross bikes which go through rough terrain which are 10 times as bad. Your problems are due to bad installation of the bearings and incorrect tightening of the check nut and steering nut. It is extremely important the bearings be installed properly with correct jigs and fixtures with correct amount of force. Also (I cannot stress enough on this), the check nut should not be over tightened or left loose. In both cases you are going to end up with damaged bearings and races. It is also very important the the steering stem nut should be torqued to the exact specification given in the service manual.

But alas, who does all of the above as it is some meticulous work that is required. Everyone goes at it with hammers and punches!!! ... and people wonder why steering bearings need to be changed with such frequency....

          1. I wear a steel 'kada' on my right hand. While turning the bike completely, the kada touches the fuel tank. Possibility of a scratch in the near future. Any way to prevent this?
          2. The engine note changes while accelerating (becomes rough)? or is their some problem with the vehicle?
You can use transparent stickers on both the sides of the tank. It will prevent any scratches from the kada.
Yes the engine growls if you go above 5k RPM, but as it is a new bike, please follow the proper break in procedure, to ensure the long life of the bike.

            Thanks Dude.
Done 100km in less than a day just roaming around and never took the engine above 5K RPM. While coming out of sticky traffic (revved to 3.5-4K), could feel the engine growl.
There is no better therapy than riding a bike down a straight road at full throttle with the sound of the engine for company.

concern about these kinda precise things is all that's continuously going on in my mind since yesterday evening when the damaged bearings and conesets etc were discovered...i dont know the detailed in-hand procedures etc obviously but just generally one knows it's one of those very delicate and precision-requiring work... i dont know how to ensure or trust that the mechanic will do all this so precisely when i take my bike for full work on this issue later this week and have a peace of mind about it..

Where do I get the transparent stickers from? The Yamaha showroom I got the bike from does not have any..

Well Dude.. I got the Blue and white combo couple of days ago.. And she is a beauty. The white is pearl white, the stickers are awesome and the wheels come with white strips.
But I guess its completely your call on the colour considering that the Blue costs 3K odd more than the Red..

Good to know that you are following proper break in procedure. The engine growls even more after 6000 rpm. As long as there are no vibrations from the engine, there is nothing to worry about. Happy mile munching.

I'm afraid you wont get any stickers from the showroom. You have to search some bike accessory shop to find the stickers. There are a wide variety of stickers to choose from. Have fun decorating your bike.

Would surely need some stickers now. A pesky kid crashed his small bicycle into my parked bike. THe result is a nice and big scratch on the headlight fairing.
Two days gone and I already have a scratch....

Anyone knows of any good sticker shops in Hyderabad for R15?

Sorry to hear that brother, It really hurts to see your bike scratched because of someone else's fault.

Last month somebody took off Yamaha logo from the tail of my bike in the parking lot, and man I was pissed to the core. But as the second service was 2 days later, I got a new one from the center.
Hunt for stickers and share the pics mate.

                              Hi Guys,

Just came back from a long ride full of rains and dust. Have not been able to get the bike washed.
Now after returning from there, yesterday morning I found the clutch lever to be very hard and has lost the smoothness.
Power delivery is smooth though. Also the indicator switch has turned stiff. The right indicator is coming up normally but left indicator is switching on after aruond 2~3seconds delay and at times not functioning at all.

Please provide your suggestions as to how I can get these rectified. Thanks

Spray some wd40 into the switch. Rust and dust can hinder the proper contact in the switch.

                                Ride safe and have fun.
