Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
They wont replace the unit just because it is misaligned.. They may open it up and align it properly, that too if they think it is really out of order, otherwise they don't unnecessarily open up the components. You will have to explain the service man very patiently about the problem, and if the problem is genuine, he will get it corrected.Originally posted by myg124 View PostI would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Thank you Ankey, got it rectified today, no questions asked! If they keep the service up this way, the Yam is a keeper. One more thing, I've been doing back to back rounds in the heavy rains for the past 2 days since the delivery. Any special precautions to take with regards to the parts or in general?Originally posted by Ankey View PostThey wont replace the unit just because it is misaligned.. Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Yes Yamaha service is pretty good. As far as rain is concerned, you only have to take care of the bike's chain. As it is exposed, it gets dirty quickly in rains, and the the lubricant washes off much faster than normal days. This makes the chain dry, which in turn causes rough drive. To prevent this clean the chain every 2 weeks or 500 Kms which ever comes early, with WD40. It is a cleaning spray which deeply washes off the dirt and grease. And then lube the chain with chain spray. These products can be purchased from any auto accessory shop. You can also clean the chain with kerosine or diesel, both are good cleaning agents, then lube with chain spray.Originally posted by myg124 View PostThank you Ankey, got it rectified today, no questions asked! Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
oh well, that steering/handlebar problem that i'd described about last week (a couple of pages back in this thread) started returning in the last couple of days..that day in svc 5 days ago i had insisted them to open it up and inspect but the mechanic just did a little something to the checknut and things were seemingly fine for a couple of days after that. but again in the last 2-3 days that abnormal slow-speed handling/feeling started growing gradually.
so went to svc again today and got hold of a more willing mechanic there. he opened it up and turns out the ball racer/steering bearing and coneset are damaged as i had initially suspected at the very beginning 7 days ago..more than half of the bearing was rusted somehow and as a result almost all of coneset was burnt and rusted..this was just the more easily detachable part of the setup (which lies with/in the checknut area)..there's a lower second component (which they called some name that i couldn't catch despite asking him thrice, thanks to his pan-filled mouth :P) inspecting which requires one to dismantle the whole front assembly (wheels, forks etc) and the work takes about at least 2 hours apparently, so couldnt get it done today as i had gone there in the dusk when the SVC was about to close within the hour....he just temporarily replaced the coneset with a new one for now and adjusted the checknut again...will go for the whole work later soon.
according to him, the reason isn't impacts over the year from speedbreakers or something as the previous mechanic had opined, but instead it became obvious that somehow some water must have gone into the thing and that's why it started rusting...it may have started doing so slowly long time ago but remained too negligible to have any feeling or consequence at all, but it must be that recently all its lubrication had probably gone off and in the couple of days of rain here 15 days ago (in which i rode about 20 kms or so) the water seeped in and started doing its work very fast and that's why i started feeling the abnormality all of a sudden only 7/8 days ago.
it's just one year and 7400 kms of the bike yet this happened so soon...i rarely wash the bike and it gets ridden in the wet much much less than everyone because i dont have any commuting purpose, the bike gets ridden almost entirely for general (and purpose-less, practically speaking) riding experience/fun and in the rains i have hardly ridden it much (the only times in rainy days that i have gone for rides are those occassional moods of feeling the rain and cool air, and maybe a few times for some practical purpose in the city)...of that 7400, probably only 1000 kms at most was in the wet conditions...
now reading in the internet about it i am seeing it written that this thing should be inspected periodically and if needed greased/lubricated, i am sure the same's written in the manual too.
if he has to change the lower component (inspecting which as i said requires dismantling the whole front setup) it will cost me about 2200 just for that and nearly 3000 in total..i forgot to ask him if the insurance claim would cover it, i hope it does.Last edited by aditya_YZF-R15; 07-14-2014, 09:35 PM.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Finally got the racing blue and she is a beauty - to look at and to ride. Few questions though..
1. I wear a steel 'kada' on my right hand. While turning the bike completely, the kada touches the fuel tank. Possibility of a scratch in the near future. Any way to prevent this?
2. The engine note changes while accelerating (becomes rough)? or is their some problem with the vehicle? There is no better therapy than riding a bike down a straight road at full throttle with the sound of the engine for company.

Thanks a heap once again Ankey! Oh yes the chain got its treatment of WD40 and I always keep the Motul chain clean kit(lube and cleaner) handy. I cleaned the front portion up nice and clean. The fairing plastics are little too soft for one. Have to be careful it seems. The aluminium swing arm is just gorgeous! Love it. Does it need a dose of WD40 as well or is it good on its own?Originally posted by Ankey View PostYes Yamaha service is pretty good. Just washing the rest of the bike to remove dirt and mud is enough. No special treatment is needed. You can polish your bike with a good wax polish for extra shine if you want. But if you are having teflon coating after every service, then no need for the wax polish either.
Enjoy. Happy mile munching.Last edited by Ankey; 07-15-2014, 06:54 PM.I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

I am guessing you are new to the R15. Ensure that while riding your thighs are hugging the tank and elbows are slightly bent. This will take some pressure off the wrists.
Consider the ass pain to be 'sweet pain'.
You'll get used to it after you 100 kms. Or so.
Am not sure about the neon lights.

1) Protect your tank by wearing a jacket which covers the Kada.Originally posted by mustang28 View PostReposting....
