Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Congrats on your new purchase!!Originally posted by myg124 View PostHey guys,
A new R15 is being welcomed into the family this week and need your inputs for these things. Replies will be highly appreciated!
1. What all to look out for in the PDI. Any one have a PDI check list for the R15?
2. Can the stock battery be upgraded to something better?
3. Want to upgrade the stock bulbs to 60/55s. Will it require a relay or a direct fit will suffice?
4. What is the best oil to stick to for the initial kms and there after?
1) Check working of all electricals (headlights, indicators, front brake light, rear brake light, pilot lamps, working of console) / scratches on surfaces, exhaust, forks, headlamps, disc brake condition / slackness of chain / oil level / proper idling of engine.
2) I doubt if it can be. Not enough room to fit a bigger battery.
3) The battery will drain fast if you use high beam for longer time.
4) Use Yamalube to not void your warranty. Else, go for Motul oils.
Cheerz!!The real beauty lies in throttle's twist!!
Headlight can be replaced, Head cannot be. Wear a helmet.

Yes, it has to be done on a cold engine. If you're riding bike to the service center, wait for atleast 4 hours before starting.Originally posted by aditya_YZF-R15 View Postquestion to those who have had their bikes' tappets tightened after it got loose, how much time did the svc guys take to do so ? i imagine at least half a day (5-6 hours) goes for it since i think i have read from people here that it needs to be done on a cold engine ?Yamaha YZF R15 V 2.0 (Oct, 2012 - Present)

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
best would be to take the bike to svc in the evening and leave the bike there overnight and get the work done next day.Originally posted by aditya_YZF-R15 View Postoh hell, pretty much all the day time will be needed for that then it seems.
Ride safe and have fun.

Thanks mate! I wish to know at what rpm should the engine idle? Also, is the extended warranty worth it? The showroom chaps are offering it. Last but not the least, the best service centre in the western suburbs of Mumbai?Originally posted by devils_friend View PostCongrats on your new purchase!!

Yes. First look at a ASC with an experienced mechanic. Bcoz the first mechanic who adjusted my bike's tappet, at B'lore, completely ruined it. Then I got it done by the mest Yamaha mechanic at Pune. So be careful while doing this and be ready to leave the bike at the ASC.Originally posted by aditya_YZF-R15 View Postoh hell, pretty much all the day time will be needed for that then it seems.

The idle RPM should be set at 1.4K. Yes, the extended warranty is worth as you'll have to pay only 777 INR, AFAIK, and get additional 3 years of engine and electicals safe guarded.Originally posted by myg124 View PostThanks mate! only one ASC in allahabad of course..so will just have to trust them i guess...no idea how far they are competent to not screw a delicate work like tappets etc..they seemed alright so far but of course that was only in normal servicing stuff..don't know any outside expert mechanic either.Originally posted by ArnabC View PostYes. anyway, i am not sure the tappet's loose in the first place...just a slight tntntntn kinda sound coming from inside at revs 3000/4000 or above for quite some time now that seems like it's the tappet noise..not even listenable inside helmet but only when heard with bare ears....hopefully it's not the tappets or anything of note and consequence at all, but anyway gotta get it checked out one of these days.Last edited by aditya_YZF-R15; 06-23-2014, 10:56 PM.

Another important thing is to make sure you get the owner's tools kit and first-aid kit along with your bike. Though the first-aid kit is of no use (it only has a small cotton ball and some antiseptic powder, which won't help much in case of an emergency), the owner's tools kit will be essential for most of the minor maintenance work for the bike.Originally posted by myg124 View Post1. Noted! Many thanks. Also I want to upgrade the stock bulbs to something better, preferably a 60/55w. Will I need a relay or is it a straight upgrade?Originally posted by Andy_kristine View PostAnother important thing is to make sure you get the owner's tools kit and first-aid kit along with your bike. Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Sorry for the delay in reply. Go thru the manual and almost all your queries will be answered. I have taken the extended warranty (own FZ-S). Engine internal parts are covered in extended warranty (long list of parts). Although, they say if it is manufacturing fault, they will replace the part free of cost (normal wear and tear will not be taken as manufacturing fault). So, it is upto you to decide whether to go for it or leave it. Regarding the "best" SVC, it is really hard to find. I get my bike serviced from Kamla Yamaha in Borivali(E), decent enough and quick service (if you wait when your bike gets serviced). From where have you taken your ride?Originally posted by myg124 View PostThanks mate! I wish to know at what rpm should the engine idle? Also, is the extended warranty worth it? Getting it from Matrix Automotive, Malad. The dealer gave a good deal and the extended warranty was packed in for free!Originally posted by devils_friend View PostSorry for the delay in reply.
