Svc ppl dont ask questions....But i guess warranty will be void if you dont follow the 70 day rule.... Are you sure about the warranty? Btw they dont stick any stickers here in chennai :P

Nope, hadn't changed that or its wiring. I noticed something else today. After a quick wash, the speedo sensors only came on with the handlebar turned to extreme left. They stayed 'on' and switched off when I changed handlebar direction. Repeated that a few times to confirm.

Is this a fault with the wire from the ignition? I just opened up to have a look; the end of the wire which connects to the ignition is soldered, the other end has a plug. I'm not sure if the wire alone is replaceable or whether I'd have to change the ignition set as a whole?

Wouldn't it be better to visit svc and ask them.
The wiring connection seems to be the culprit.

        Ride safe and have fun.

Are you sure stickers is used to say next service on odo reading??? Guess it is also a marketing techinque just to keep a track how much kms your bike has done, when have you serviced it and what was the odo reading at time of servicing. Each service center follow different nomenclature.

Its not necessary to stick to number of days usually plus minus 20 is non objectionable.
Until and unless you are using your free servicing, SVC guys dont ask about after how many days are you getting it serviced. And moreover their are times when you are not riding much and bike is condition, guess for namesake you wont go for SVC.

wait, you are telling me that sprint/BW never put a small sticker with the info on when is next service and date on your bike? check your bikes forks near the handle bar or the fiber part near console. its a small 1inch sticker.

I am telling are you sure they put up the next date of servicing as you mentioned earlier, guess not. Everyone follow different patterns. I have seen Sprint always follwoing the pattern what you say. BW I havent seen this pattern, rather they paste sticker with present odo reading and date and save with Pacer.

yup, even BW puts it but they never asked why i was late and all. also last service i gave it after 800kms more than the given kms on the sticker

I need to know what people do for that. Is it actually possible, or is it placebo effect? For that I think people need to share how they ride their bikes, throttle handling style etc. At least answering the below questions should help us all?

                  **What is your claimed mileage?**

                  1. What fuel do you use? Standard or high octane?
                  Standard.
                  2. What comes first? Your service day or your kilometers?
                  Service Date.
                  3. Any fuel additives?
Nope.(But keep the Chain clean and well Lubricated). Really helps getting in getting more mileage.
                  4. What tyre air? Nitrogen or regular? Pressure recommended by manufacturer or something else?
                  Normal. AS recommended by manufacturer.
                  5. When do you refuel? Once the tank is empty or halfway? Or do you always run on low fuel?
As soon as the fuel gauge starts blinking(ie the bike hits reserve fuel).
                  6. Preferred refuel timing. Day, night or no preference?
Nope.(the moment bike hits the reserve fuel mark, I turn in to the first petrol station I find).
                  7. Do you follow engine warm up rule? Or start and move?
When I first start in the morning(start the engine and let it idle for 30 - 45 seconds).
                  8. When did you do your first service? at 1000kms or end of 1st month?
                  1st month.(500 Kms done)
                  9. Did you follow manufacturer break-in pattern? Or Motoman? Or your own? If own, what was it?
                  4k rpm - 50kmph for 500Kms, 5k rpm - 65kmph for 700Kms, 6k rpm 80kmph for 1000kms. revving freely after 1000kms.
                  10. Did you always get the mileage your claimed? Or was is improved later? How many kilometers/months/services later?
Got 30 kmpl for the first month, 1 service done, getting 40 - 42 after that. Second service due next week.
                  11. At what RPM do you usually shift? If you shift at say 5000rpm, but you know you wont go beyond that speed, do you shift at 5000rpm and let the revs lower or stay at 5000 rpm without shifting?
in city traffic I shift between 4-5k rpm. I shift and let the revs lower.
                  12. Generally ,do you quickly accelerate to your shift revs or slowly get there?
quickly.(I accelerate to my cruising speed as soon as possible and then stay there and enjoy the wind(60-65 kmph in city and 80-90kmph on highways).
                  13. What's the general weight that comes on the bike? Your weight + pillion maybe + bags etc.
My weight(45 Kgs). BackPack(2 kgs). Total weight on bike 47 Kgs. Yes I'm skinny, now stop laughing
                  14. Where is your riding place? Moderate traffic, Heavy traffic, or open highway?
mix of Moderate traffic and heavy traffic.
                  15. What is your maintained riding speed?
60-70 in city, 80-90 on highways.(My riding is 90% in city and 10% on highways).
                  16. Heavy use of brakes? do you panic brake or brake at the last minute often? or come to a slow stop?
No heavy braking (If I see a red light 200mtrs ahead, I release the throttle, the speed gets from 70 to 30 without brakes).
                  17. Anything out of the box that you think help.
Take care of the drive chain, keep it clean and well lubricated, you'll notice the power and mileage increase a bit.

Kindly be as accurate as possible as this is going to help all of us.

I've already asked this a month before, yet I need to confirm this issue with other members too.

Is it mandatory to change the headlights along with the front fairing? Or is it possible to replace just the fairing alone without having to replace the headlights? :-/ :-/ ;-/ :-/ Please clarify my doubt cause this got too much into my head.

You can change the front fairing panel alone. The headlights attach to this fairing with 5 screws. Take them off, and you're good to go.

Yeah, I guess I'd ask them about it. I hope they don't give it back with another dent.

Definitely a wiring issue, hope I wouldn't have to replace the ignition set.

Then I wonder why the SVC Mechanic told me only the former method was possible. :-/ Anyways thank you so much mate. You relieved my tension completely.

Wow. The SVC told you that? Everything about the front assembly is replaceable as individual parts. Except the headlight assembly- if there's a crack on the outer headlight lens, or if the assembly itself is damaged, you'd have to change the HL assembly. Costs about 2,320 Rs.

yeah many R15s (as reported here), if not all, have some random shit with their reserve level display (blinking F)...i have pretty much lost hope in trying to figure it out for once and all..done all kinds of experiments with it, still cant say anything conclusive about it unless i open the whole thing up and/or happen to analyze the electronically controlled fuel gauge meter or something..every once in a while some definite conclusion seems to be really the case, but then something newly random happens with it again..perhaps the reserve fuel display or the very measurement of it changes its mood with time and climate :P

a mystery of the last couple of months in my bike regarding this issue is as follows - i have been filling the tank full for the last 2-3 months...whenever i got it filled to full tank just as F started blinking (that is, within a very few 0-5 kms from when the F count started), about exactly 10 litres of petrol gets filled to the brim of the tank..then once, i had it filled to full tank when it was about 31 kms into reserve (so that's nearly 0.8-1 litre below whatever the reserve level is), again about 10.15 or so litres of petrol was accommodated to the brim of the tank...the latest time a couple of days ago, it was about 21kms into reserve and again it took 10.14 litres of petrol to fill the tank to its brim. so now anyone figure out wtf is happening here :P

it might just be my bike doing this particular random shit described in the para above, but in general too many people have expressed in this thread some or the other kind of puzzlement with their reserve or F display..

Thanks for your input guys. I'm making an online survey side by side with the same questions. The effort, is gather enough data and try to maybe make a graph of some sort which will hopefully give us all a good idea on what will help us get good mileage out of the bike. Maybe the mods could help me push it up to the top of the page so all R15 users could take it and we could get somewhere..
