a mystery of the last couple of months in my bike regarding this issue is as follows - i have been filling the tank full for the last 2-3 months...whenever i got it filled to full tank just as F started blinking (that is, within a very few 0-5 kms from when the F count started), about exactly 10 litres of petrol gets filled to the brim of the tank..then once, i had it filled to full tank when it was about 31 kms into reserve (so that's nearly 0.8-1 litre below whatever the reserve level is), again about 10.15 or so litres of petrol was accommodated to the brim of the tank...the latest time a couple of days ago, it was about 21kms into reserve and again it took 10.14 litres of petrol to fill the tank to its brim. so now anyone figure out wtf is happening here :P

it might just be my bike doing this particular random shit described in the para above, but in general too many people have expressed in this thread some or the other kind of puzzlement with their reserve or F display..
The F is there to give you a signal that your bike is runnin low on fuel. Thats it. going after measuring how much exact fuel is remaining when it blinks is like searching something in pitch dark. keep the bike straight for a while (i mean dont rest it on side stand), after a while turn on the bike electronics and the console checks the bike and shows the proper fuel present. the sensor senses the fuel when it touches a particular mark and when you ride the bike the liquid is disturbed thus not giving an accurate reading. there is always +or- few kms for that reading. thats why sometimes when you start the bike after you take it off from side it shows more fuel and when you start riding it it will show 1 bar less or F. its a very tricky thing. there have been times where the F shows up and goes off after 5kms without filling the fuel. and also the tank shape is not exactly a box kind, it shape is different so reading changes.

Ya it's the same case with cars also, they hardly show you the correct readings. I think we have to live with this kind of technology. (once faced tough time while coming downhill, fuel gauge show plenty fuel but in actual we are running with hardly left fuel. Luckily we thought why this much of fuel is left and how come we get mindblowing FE on mountains and off road)
And regarding mine 9 liters, might be it's due to mumbai weather (heat). Will try to check the same in pune as weather is pleasant there.

yes mate, i realize all that. not that much of a noobie anymore :-) i know that the F is essentially more a figurative indicator than a precise quantitative one..the fuel in the tank is moving around and so the F display may fluctuate if the bike is in motion or not standing still straight up, etc...but such factors won't justify the present inconsistency that i had described...when filling the tank full up, it takes slightly over 10L of fuel when i have filled it within 5 or so kms of F (so essentially right at the point of reserve, whatever it is), it takes only 10.15L even when it's apparently over 30kms into reserve, it takes again 10.14L when it's over 20kms into reserve...and i have noticed this over several full-tank fillings ever since i decided to make a habit of filling the tank full....this is a major inconsistency even for a figurative indicator and the small fluctuations inside due to bike's motion (that result in a +- few kms of error) can't be the reason for such random numbers..none of these was observed on a bike standing on its side stand (from day 1 i realize that standing on its side stand is of course not going to give a correct fuel reading/indication)...it's just some random thing that i don't even bother about anymore since it's a hopeless one. the only way to perhaps figuring it out for sure is it to open it up and analyze the fuel measuring unit inside. :-)

as i said earlier, regarding this particular random puzzle, it might just be the case with my bike and something somewhat screwed up a bit with the fuel pump or the fuel measurer inside or something..

          Guys,

Need your help with an issue I am facing with my R15 v2.0. Unfortunately the bike had a fall last evening in parking due to some stu**d kids in my society trying to sit on it. I took it for a check at the service center earlier today and was told the front fork is bent. I was asked to leave the bike there and collect it in the evening.

After correcting the fork issue, I went for a trial and noticed that the issue has been corrected but a new issue has cropped up. While riding, when the front disc is applied hard, the front fork kind of shudders and I feel there is some play in it. This is felt only when braked hard and goes unnoticed if ridden sedately.

I brought this to the notice of the service guy there who took it for a trial again and came back stating all is fine and there is no issue whatsoever with the fork or braking.

I tried researching about this online but couldn't find much of info. What could be the possible cause of this and how can it be addressed? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

this might interest you, today F started blinking, rode abt 17kms and filled full tank petrol. filled about 8.95 lit. but i didnt fill it to the brim (the hole thats there for the petrol gun to go in). i guess it would have come up to 9.5L. but few days back after riding about 36kms (after F showed up) i filled full tank and filled about 10.25lit of fuel.

BTW i got FE of 41kmpl including 60kms city and 640kms of outside city(the wayanad ride). earlier i had got about 45kmpl in valparai ride i guess, but that was a longer ride.

Honestly if your fork is bent, there is no way your local SVC can straighten it properly, to straighten any metal 100% requires a jig that can measure properly in microns, otherwise it's no more than a guesstimate (hit or miss), I would strongly suggest you change your fork with a new set, for peace of mind and personal safety if you have any doubts.

I need to know what people do for that. Is it actually possible, or is it placebo effect? For that I think people need to share how they ride their bikes, throttle handling style etc. At least answering the below questions should help us all?

                **What is your claimed mileage?**
                36+ and not above 42

                1. What fuel do you use? Standard or high octane?
                Regular @ BP

                2. What comes first? Your service day or your kilometers?
                Kilometers

                3. Any fuel additives?
                No

                4. What tyre air? Nitrogen or regular? Pressure recommended by manufacturer or something else?
Normal air, 28 at the front and 33 at the rear, Cold

                5. When do you refuel? Once the tank is empty or halfway? Or do you always run on low fuel?
                Rightaway when "F" shows up

                6. Preferred refuel timing. Day, night or no preference?
                No preference

                7. Do you follow engine warm up rule? Or start and move?
I always wait for the rpm so settle down to 1200 from 1500 whenever I start the bike

                8. When did you do your first service? at 1000kms or end of 1st month?
1000kms, 4 days from the delivery date

                9. Did you follow manufacturer break-in pattern? Or Motoman? Or your own? If own, what was it?
Just rode it like I always do, for the first 500 kms, I shifted each gears at 3.5k rpm and after 500 kms till 1000, It was at 4k rpm and from there till present, it's all at 4.5k rpm. The odo is at 7300kms now! 185 days since delivery!

                10. Did you always get the mileage your claimed? Or was is improved later? How many kilometers/months/services later?
I do always check the mileage every tankful I do, it's above 36 for sure and that's happy enough for me!

                11. At what RPM do you usually shift? If you shift at say 5000rpm, but you know you wont go beyond that speed, do you shift at 5000rpm and let the revs lower or stay at 5000 rpm without shifting?
I shift from first to second at 4k rpm n d rest are at 4.5k rpm... At times when I'm in traffic or some busy area, I keep my revs lower at 3k rpm and never below that, but shifting up is always at 4.5k and not below.... And I never ride at any gear below 3k rpm (leaving out first gear) because I feel that the engine tends to lug below 3k rpm

                12. Generally ,do you quickly accelerate to your shift revs or slowly get there?
It always slowly gets there, 90%

                13. What's the general weight that comes on the bike? Your weight + pillion maybe + bags etc.
Just me and my bag, 75+1kg

                14. Where is your riding place? Moderate traffic, Heavy traffic, or open highway?
50% moderate traffic, 25% heavy traffic and 25% open highway

                15. What is your maintained riding speed?
4k rpm in gear 6 i.e 60kph in the city and 5-6k rpm i.e 75 to 85 in the highways

                16. Heavy use of brakes? do you panic brake or brake at the last minute often? or come to a slow stop?
I use the rear brake and engine braking to come to a slow stop... Downshifting when the rpm goes below 3k rpm.... And the front brake to get the bike to a standstill

                17. Anything out of the box that you think help.
Regular chain lubing and a quicker oil change interval could help relieve some stress from the engine!

Kindly be as accurate as possible as this is going to help all of us.

interesting indeed...it seems your bike can consistently take about approx. 9.4 L of fuel between reserve and full tank (so reserve level is at 2.6L), based on at least the 2 examples you mentioned..seems normal as it should be and moreover it's consistent in its display/readings..

as written earlier, my bike on the other hand takes about 10-10.2 L of fuel for a full tank irrespective of whether the display shows it's just hit reserve or it's over 20kms or even 30kms into reserve :P :-D i reckon if i fill the tank to its full next time after F has been there for about 50kms it'll still take about at most 10.2 L lol

While returning from a lake, rain made up a lot of mud and it got stuck between the wheels badly. The bikes couldn't move an inch. Cleared up that somehow but I'm worried about the mud which got involved with the chain and brake assemblies. The chain has become a lot slack now. Tomorrow I'll be taking the bike to SVC, so apart from the obvious cleaning jobs, what are the other areas which I should take care of?

                      **What is your claimed mileage?**
                      43kmpl - 48kmpl

                      1. What fuel do you use? Standard or high octane?
Standard fuel. Have tried different fuel stations. Indian Oil Company operated fuel station gave best mileage results.
I have run mileage tests myself. Results with different fuel stations -
                      HPCL - 43kmpl
                      BPCL - 46kmpl
                      IOC - 48kmpl

                      2. What comes first? Your service day or your kilometers?
Kilometers. Techometer has clocked 11000km in just 5months

                      3. Any fuel additives?
                      None

                      4. What tyre air? Nitrogen or regular? Pressure recommended by manufacturer or something else?
28psi in front, 33psi in rear

                      5. When do you refuel? Once the tank is empty or halfway? Or do you always run on low fuel?
                      When it hits reserve.

                      6. Preferred refuel timing. Day, night or no preference?
                      Morning

                      7. Do you follow engine warm up rule? Or start and move?
I always keep engine running for 60 seconds starting first ride of the day

                      8. When did you do your first service? at 1000kms or end of 1st month?
1000km, I had changed mineral oil at 500km also.

                      9. Did you follow manufacturer break-in pattern? Or Motoman? Or your own? If own, what was it?
I always let engine run upto 5000 rpm in each gear during first 1000km. And also, I used to take stop after 30km of continuous riding.

                      10. Did you always get the mileage your claimed? Or was is improved later? How many kilometers/months/services later?
I got considerably less mileage during first 1000km. But after first service, I am getting stable mileage between 43-48kmpl

                      11. At what RPM do you usually shift? If you shift at say 5000rpm, but you know you wont go beyond that speed, do you shift at 5000rpm and let the revs lower or stay at 5000 rpm without shifting?
I used to shift at 4.5k rpm. But after digging xbhp a bit, I started high rev shifting. I shift at 6k rpm. Bike gives powerful acceleration during high rev shifting.

                      12. Generally ,do you quickly accelerate to your shift revs or slowly get there?
I prefer to take it slowly.

                      13. What's the general weight that comes on the bike? Your weight + pillion maybe + bags etc.
                      My weight 60kg + tankbag 5kg = 65kg

                      14. Where is your riding place? Moderate traffic, Heavy traffic, or open highway?
                      95% open highway.

                      15. What is your maintained riding speed?
                      90kmph

                      16. Heavy use of brakes? do you panic brake or brake at the last minute often? or come to a slow stop?
My daily commute of 60km is full open national highway, I rarely have to use brakes.

                      17. Anything out of the box that you think help.
Get bike serviced at 3000km interval. Do change engine oil filter during each service. DO NOT let mechanic touch tappet/valve clearance without any necessity (I have clocked 11k km, no tappet/valve issue till now). Avoid panic braking. Try cruising at particular speed on long journey.

Kindly be as accurate as possible as this is going to help all of us.
I hope above answers help u to improve mileage of your R15. 35kmpl is too less for R15 V2.

                        Hi Guys,

As the monsoon ringed the bell in mumbai . Need some suggestions.
So how do you guys take care of your baby?
Do you guys puts console cover (to save electronics) and board behind front wheel to avoid dirt coming on legs?
If yes, from where to get it.

And also faced a small issue. Whenever i turn on my parking light, console light comes. But when turned on headlamps, console light goes away.
Have to switch it off on 2 3 time to get both headlamps and console light on. Or had to adjust headlamp switch little bit.
Bike has not yet tasted monsoon. What can be the issue and do i straight away go and get it fixed or do it after monsoon. Bike is 3 4 month old only.

But i have been stuck on 35 since day 1. I need to know what people do for that. Is it actually possible, or is it placebo effect? For that I think people need to share how they ride their bikes, throttle handling style etc. At least answering the below questions should help us all?

Kindly be as accurate as possible as this is going to help all of us.
                          Below are the answers:

                          **What is your claimed mileage?**
City: 38 kmpl. Highways: 43-44 kmpl.

                          1. What fuel do you use? Standard or high octane?
                          Shell Super.
                          2. What comes first? Your service day or your kilometers?
Kilometers of course. Though most of the time the kilometers are over before the next service date.
                          3. Any fuel additives?
                          None.
                          4. What tyre air? Nitrogen or regular? Pressure recommended by manufacturer or something else?
Normal air. 28 and 34 PSI at front and rear respectively.
                          5. When do you refuel? Once the tank is empty or halfway? Or do you always run on low fuel?
Whenevr the 'F-' starts blinking I fill up my tank, 95% time full tank.
                          6. Preferred refuel timing. Day, night or no preference?
                          No preference.
                          7. Do you follow engine warm up rule? Or start and move?
Yes. 40-45 secs of warming up before the first ride of the day. Then run it sanely for the next 2-3 kms. Other times, if the bike is being started after a gap of 3-4 hours, but in the same day, 30-40 secs of warming up. Else, everytime a warm-up of 10 secs before the idle RPM needle settles down.
                          8. When did you do your first service? at 1000kms or end of 1st month?
                          950+ kms.
                          9. Did you follow manufacturer break-in pattern? Or Motoman? Or your own? If own, what was it?
Manufacturer break-in pattern with some 2 or 3 speed bursts withing the first 1000 kms.
                          10. Did you always get the mileage your claimed? Or was is improved later? How many kilometers/months/services later?
Yes. I am getting an average of 41-42 kmpl right from the beginning. City: 38 kmpl. Highways: 43-44 kmpl.
                          11. At what RPM do you usually shift? If you shift at say 5000rpm, but you know you wont go beyond that speed, do you shift at 5000rpm and let the revs lower or stay at 5000 rpm without shifting?
Depends. If riding on highways and with a mood of fast riding, shift at mostly 8-9k. At city, in traffic, as the situation demands. At city, with empty roads, mostly at 6-7k.
                          12. Generally ,do you quickly accelerate to your shift revs or slowly get there?
Again depends on the mood. When in mood, I start redlining from 3rd gear and other times slowly rev the bike.
                          13. What's the general weight that comes on the bike? Your weight + pillion maybe + bags etc.
My weight is 60kgs. Other accessories and all will add upto 70 kgs in total.
                          14. Where is your riding place? Moderate traffic, Heavy traffic, or open highway?
Mostly highways. But when city riding, it is a mix of moderate to heavy traffic.
                          15. What is your maintained riding speed?
City: 50-60 kmph. Highways: 100-110 kmph.
                          16. Heavy use of brakes? do you panic brake or brake at the last minute often? or come to a slow stop?
Braking as per situation but no panic braking mostly. Slow stops mostly.
                          17. Anything out of the box that you think help.
Lube the chain every 500-600 kms. That helps.

Cleared up that somehow but I'm worried about the mud which got involved with the chain and brake assemblies. The chain has become a lot slack now. Tomorrow I'll be taking the bike to SVC, so apart from the obvious cleaning jobs, what are the other areas which I should take care of?

Ask them to clean the bike properly. Also the swingarm bush and the wheel bearings. These are the portions which can get affected due to the slush. Also, clean up the radiator grill. Keep in mind, that in the local washing areas, they jet shower the water on the radiator also. Ask them not to do that as that action bend the radiator fins thus resulting in less effective cooling. Lube the chain as early as possible and continue doing so every 500-600 kms.

Well, try to use a console cover if possible. I've never seen anyone using boards to cover the dirt coming from the front wheel. So can't comment on that.

Well, for the console lights, my suggestion would be to get it fixed. It seems to be a handlebar switch issue. Don't wait for the monsoons to be over.

                            For care:
Before the monsoons, ask the SVC guys to check and clean, if necessary, the swingarm bush and the wheel bearings. Please read above the care that needs to be taken for bike during the monsoons. Lube the chain every 300-400 kms.

Hi guys I recently did install a Mobile charger in my R15. Just cost me around 350 bucks. I tapped the pilot lamp wire and installed beneath the panel of the fairing neatly. Since it is under the panel it conceals the setup as well as protects it from rain and sunlight. Tapping the pilot lamp excludes the need for extra wiring from battery and a dedicated switch. Although the draw back would be you have to turn on the pilot lamps to charge the phone. That shouldn't be a problem at least for me as I'll charge mostly when I'm on the move and not when the bike is turned off.

                              I'll do a DIY soon.

I have strapped the socket with the wiring so that no drilling or taping is required. You can reach the socket easily from below the handle bar and a use a charger.
