Hey Impulse owners, if you have ridden other Hero (Honda) bikes, how does its engine fare compared to CBZ-Xtreme/Hunk/Dazzler/Unicorn's engine ? Performance and mileage ? Is it the same engine in a different state of tune or a different engine alltogether ?Currently without a vehicle. Uber App and Bangalore Metro serving all my travel needs.

The engine is the same and looking at the power output figures I am guessing that the head or the cam are the only things which differ other than the obvious gearing ratios.Originally posted by MHG View PostHey Impulse owners, if you have ridden other Hero (Honda) bikes, how does its engine fare compared to CBZ-Xtreme/Hunk/Dazzler/Unicorn's engine ? What is the gearing ratios change everyone seems to be talking about ? And how is the mileage vs other Hero/Honda 150cc bikes ?Originally posted by Gyroerror View PostThe engine is the same and looking at the power output figures I am guessing that the head or the cam are the only things which differ other than the obvious gearing ratios.Currently without a vehicle. The Impulse is geared low & produces its peak torque lower in the rev range. I have no clue about the fuel efficiency. If you are looking to purchase one I would suggest you base your decision on which bike suits your riding style and not how many kilometres it goes on a litre. The difference in the amount you spend on fuel will be negligible at the end of the day.Originally posted by MHG View PostWhat is the gearing ratios change everyone seems to be talking about ? The difference in the gearing should be in the either the primary or final reduction (I am guessing final). For the Impulse the Primary is 67/20 & Final is 50/17. You can ask the Hulk/CBZ owners for info from their owners manual.Last edited by Gyroerror; 08-25-2012, 10:46 AM.

I only asked mileage and stuff because I wanted to know how this engine differs from Unicorn derived engines that I'm familiar with already. It has much higher torque and lesser power on paper, and I'd like to know how much difference it makes on road and also if the mileage is also different from the >52-54 levels expected from Unicorn usually.Originally posted by Gyroerror View PostThe Impulse is geared low & produces its peak torque lower in the rev range. The gearbox and bottom end is identical. Not sure about the size of the valves or the cam profile. I doubt if Hero would have gone for a change in valve diameter to get the torque lower down. Most probably its a different cam profile OR a different ignition map. For the gearing either the primary might be different or it might just be the sprockets. I'll be opening my top end in two weeks time and can take measurements then.

I have done about 5200 kms now and have spent around Rs10500 on fuel [Fuel=expensive in Bangalore].Originally posted by MHG View PostHey Impulse owners, if you have ridden other Hero (Honda) bikes, how does its engine fare compared to CBZ-Xtreme/Hunk/Dazzler/Unicorn's engine ? hello there gyro i hope things are ok with you and your ride. i want to know is it OK to change tires now I've already done more than 1500 km and there is a chance that i might change the tyres and my parent might approve the same so which Tyre would be the best for the ride keeping in mind i mostly ride on city highway then some offroading not serious off roading though..Originally posted by Gyroerror View PostThe gearbox and bottom end is identical. you remind me of one of my reasonable freindOriginally posted by Gyroerror View PostI would suggest keeping the Ceat tyres which came with the bike till they show wear. Changing tyres at 1500 will be nothing but waste of money.OPINIONS ARE LIKE HEADACHES EVERYONE HAS ONE....
