Re: KTM 200 Duke
Even I have the same issue! The noise goes away after the chain slack is fixed, but then it starts coming back after about 200-250 km's! Basically, it'll not come until the chain is very tight, the moment there's even very minute amount of slack in it, the sound starts coming. The SVC guy said the chain is slapping the swingarm, and there's a rubber part that was fixed on some bikes, which eventually fixed it. Apparently, my bike doesn't have it, and the noise has been plaguing the bike really bad.Originally posted by s1d View Post

Re: KTM 200 Duke
No, my bike has the chain slider, there was some other jugaad kind of a thingy the guy was talking about, I'll get some more information on it the next time I head over to the ASC!Originally posted by s1d View Postyour bike doesn't have the chain slider ? all ktm's have it. Kindly put in one if it's missing.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Rs.1100 approx for the clutch plates (iirc just the friction plates) the steel plates i think are sold separately.Originally posted by vikundefined View PostHi guys,
My duke 200 have done 51k and now the pickup has reduced quite a lot. Seems like the bike needs new clutch plates. Does any one know the cost for the same?
Thanks
You might as well get the clutch springs replaced when you get the plates changed.
So essentially, ask them to get the 'clutch kit' part (which includes all the plates and the springs). This should keep you going for another 50k !

Great, that's a relief. I thought this would cost a lot more. ThanksOriginally posted by s1d View PostRs.1100 approx for the clutch plates (iirc just the friction plates) the steel plates i think are sold separately.

every service i.e.Originally posted by sandwichk View PostAfter how many kms the fuel filter needs changing?
5000km on older 200's (pre nov 2014 models)
7500km on later ones.
120 days
.. which ever earlier.
If your bike is under warranty, then replace the filter every service (which is probably 120 days interval/5000km/7500km which ever earlier).
Both use the same filter, you could safely extend it to a year/7500km and save a cpl of bucks.
I've personally replaced the fuel filter every service (mostly it was under 5000km) and recently replaced the filter after a 1.2 Years(5800km) and did not have any issues whatsoever.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Hi all,
I am owning my duke 200 since first launch. It will complete 6 years in Feb2018. I have some great memories with it. There are few bitter ones too.
The bike is giving lot of problems lately and I am really pissed of right now. Will share in some bullet points.
1. Had been in an accident in Dec 2014 after which the chassis had to be replaced. The bike ran well since then.
2. I generally dont ride in rainy season much. I restrict myself to short distances of max 3-4 kms. Last year in 2017 also I did the same. There bike was not used for 2 to 3 weeks for rainy season of 4 months.
3. When I started riding again in October 2017 I started facing problem like Low battery. I contacted service centre and booked an appointment for service. They said battery was OK and there wont be any problem.
4. Then I moved to Pune as Job got changed in Nov2017. Rode to Pune without any problem. Then again one day I rode back to Mumbai (I have my home in Mumbai). During this ride, I was facing problems like speedometer showing 0 kmph suddenly around 75-85kmph range. Then it started showing 0 kmph between 25-30 kmph range. And before I started downslopes of Lonavala, Low battery sign was there. Now I knew what was the culprit. Now When i reached Khopoli, I was worried whether I will be able to reach mumbai or not on low battery. Thus stopped at Khopoli and gave my battery for charging for 1 hour.
5. Then again started towards Mumbai. In Just 15 min the low battery sign came back. I drove the bike for another 45 min till home in same. Made sure the bike engine didn't switch off. During this time. Speedometer started showing 0 Kmph for whole range. RPM also started Waivering in the last 5 min. Somehow I made it.
6. Next day gave the battery to the Exide guy from whom I had bought. It was still in warranty. He said the battery was OK. Thus now it was clear that the culprit was the alternator. I was now living in Pune and Bike was stuck in Mumbai.
7. Contacted the service centre and as usual found that it was not in stock. No idea when it will be in stock. Waited for 1 month. Finally brought the bike to Pune in truck as I was now living Pune and it would be easier for me to go to service centre any time.
8. Got the alternator changed in 1 week after coming to Pune. I thought the bad days were behind me. But second day after fixing the alternator, The bike didn't start. The engine light was blinking and RPM was not stable in Idle. Blinking fashion : 2 long blink and 4 short blinks.
9. Again gave the bike to service centre. They said the stepper motor controlling the idling rpm was the culprit. They changed that, and cleaned the tank and fuel pump. The guy said that the fuel pressure is also low but the bike will run for now. Took test run, and also made the bike idle for 20 min. No problem. Collected the bike from service centre today and reached office.
10. Guess what, on reaching office from service center today the bike's rpm again started waivering. It was not able to Idle. Engine Light was blinking in same fashion. The engine stops the moment the accelerator is released. Gave the bike immediately to the service again. Checked the battery voltage it was around 13 to 14 Volts range.
11. Today got a call from service center that throttle body is culprit. Service guys tested the bike another throttle body and says the problem is fixed. Its not in stock currently and will have to wait for stock.
Googled the engine blinking code and found that its for "System Voltage - too low" or "System Voltage - too high" or "System Voltage - implausible value".

The source is from Duke 390. It should be same for duke200 too. Thus its clear that fault is with voltage.
This is just one problem which is pestering me and not getting solved. There were few more over the course of the bike usage period.

I think, you have been looking for the problem in the wrong place all these days.Originally posted by devesh38 View PostHi all,

If the battery is new and low voltage is showing up. There must be a problem with wiring, since your bike was involved in an accident, there could be some wiring got damaged during that. Alternator is not a wear and tear part. it lasts a long time.
Even after changing alternator, if your problem with low battery and RPM varying here and there.. then its a problem the way engine is running. you need to Check Air filter, FI and Throttle body.
Only Air filter is a replacable part. FI and Throttle body are not wear and tear parts. Unless FI gets clogged badly, which would need some cleaning.
Why are you replacing the Throttle Body? It is not a wear and tear part at all. You just need a can of throttle body cleaner from amazon and use it on your bike.
I think, You have been looking for solutions in wrong place. No wonder, none of the problems are fixed till date. Sorry to hear this, but i think, you have been taken for a ride all these days. Just hold on. Think, and decide what needs to be done to fix the problems. I dont think, changing throttle body would solve your issue either.
Regarding the speed being shown as 0 while riding, i think, that should have been addressed by SVC by now.
Write the problems you are facing precisely on this thread. You will get good solutions. there is no problem with your bike. Some people are taking you and your bike for a ride. Thats it.Last edited by kris123456; 12-15-2017, 02:32 PM.

1. Low Battery indicator is no more since change of alternator.
2. Air Filter and fuel filter was changed in normal service in end of October 2017.
3. Last week the tank and Fi was cleaned last week.
4. Speed was showing 0kmph when there was low battery. It got solved after charging battery.
Problems still remaining:-
1. Engine shutting down while releasing throttle.
2. Engine light still blinks with 2 long and 4 short blinks.
To solve the above remaining problem, the service guy says to change throttle body.

Look for throttle body cleaner on amazon. Buy a can and you can use for 3 to 4 times in future.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Now that you've replaced your stator . I'd just add in a few more, just to make sure we don't forget these. Start off with your fuses, check all your fuses for proper fit, oxidation of the pins et cetera. If yes, clean them thoroughly. Secondly, though you've changed your stator, it's also good to inspect your RR, or Regulator Rectifier. Usually a faulty stator sometimes can take a perfectly working regulator rectifier unit too, so do get your RR checked. I'd suggest you double check your battery retaining voltage once again.Originally posted by devesh38 View Post1. Low Battery indicator is no more since change of alternator.

Thirdly, since you've replaced your fuel filter and cleaned your injectors, how well are your spark plugs and how well is the spark plug cap? Inspect them visually for any cracks, nicks the cap and replace the spark plug if not done for a while. Throttle bodies need not be replaced, throttle bodies can be cleaned using good TB cleaning solvents. There was one sinister comment mentioned by the mechanic "The Fuel Pressure was Low" This shouldn't be taken lightly, low fuel pressure means unstable fuel feed to the injectors, which means unstable RPM which ultimately causes crappy ride quality.
Start off with fuses, check your battery, spark plug and plug caps and lastly if the issue persists even after the throttle body replacement, it's time to change your fuel pump.
Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

. And btw, 70% of my clean/lube was done using used engine oil or a combination of water wash+used engine oil. The rest of the time I mostly used nulon grease spray (very useful in the wet or on long rides) and rolon chain spray.
