Gear oils are cheap alternatives to spray lubes, plus gear oil are very effective in keeping the chain lubed. You can use 90 EP gear oil, HP Laal Godha and the likes. You can use kerosene for cleaning the chain and make sure you clean the chain with a clean cloth after the chain is cleaned with kerosene, use a soft tooth brush to clean the chain when cleaning the chain with kerosene.

Negatives about 90 EP oil is, excess oil would splash and make a mess all around the swingarm and the rim of the wheels which would be comparatively difficult to clean. But use a few drops around the chain to prevent splashing of the oil.

EP90 / GL5 grade. buy something like castrol or mak spirol (easily available at most bp petrol pumps). Just ask for '90 gear oil' (because if you use fancy terms like ep90/gl5, the local shop keeper might not understand). It's the same stuff that goes in to the gear box of the scoots like the activa.
if you want a thicker oil, get the 140 grade.

      • K&N KT-1211 air filter on Duke 200

I'm thinking to replace my stock air filter with K&N KT-1211 air filter for my beast, and suggestions regarding better off market exhaust for Duke 200. Can anyone suggest me regarding this ?

I'd suggest you get a proper piggyback ECU setup if you plan to modify your stock intake with either K&N and the likes. The KTMS are excruciatingly lean from the factory side. These after market filters coupled with a not so efficient 02 sensor you get an mixture that is dangerously lean. Remember, just a filter and an exhaust is only going to reduce your engine life. A properly tuned intake and exhaust mod with a piggy back ECU to control the fuel flow, is the key to achieving good results.

          Cheers!

Get 140 no. Gear oil, due to higher viscosity it sticks better than 90 no. Oil

Yes you can use gear oil be it 80/90/140 all these graders, higher the grade thicker the oil, but don't except it to be radically thicker than 90 EP. The key is using the just a little amount of lube, though thoroughly lubed. Excess lube of either grades 80/90/140 will all splash over the rim and swingarm area and would attract dirt. The same goes well for chain lubes too. Once chain get heated up, they reduce the thickness and the lubes starts to get more liquidy. Just the right amount of lube is the key.

I will be relocating to Andaman Islands in first week of August. What will be the proper guide to store the bike in home ? I won't be returning for another 6-8 months.

Thinking to ship the bike to Port Blair. Not very sure though.

Got quote of 13,000₹ all incl. Will be picked up from door step in Chennai. Will take a week to arrive in islands. Not very sure of safety. They did mention the insurance is included in above price not sure of the details. Any inputs on this ?

Read the last few pages of the owners manual, or an owners manual from a honda bike (more clearly explained)
                    In short:
                    1. Empty out the fuel tank
                    2. Drain and fill up fresh engine oil and oil filter (just for peace of mind) or at-least make sure the oil level is right.
                    3. Over inflate tires by 5-10 psi.. keep the front at 35 and rear at 38 psi.
                    4. remove spark plug, spray in some oil like wd 40 or a few drops of engine oil - reinstall spark plug and crank engine so that the bore (combustion chamber side is coated with oil.. prevents sticky rings/surface rust due to moisture build up over time. to crank the engine without starting it on a duke, keep the ignition on but the kill switch in off position and thumb starter. this will make the piston go up and down coating the cylinder wall with a layer of oil or simply remove spark plug connection and thumb starter.
                    5. disconnect the battery
                    6. preferably use paddock stands to keep both wheels off the ground. because with a bike sitting idle for long periods the tires get damaged sitting if the same spot on the tire bears the weight. this may not be necessary for 6 months though.
                    7. Keep it covered , and in shade like in an apartment basement parking or similar or a closed garage.

Otherwise if you have somebody who can start the bike once a week and ride around for a couple of km or just letting it idle for 5 minutes , that would also be fine.

Going for my 4th service tomorrow. 15k kms and 1 year ownership.

                        Besides the following:
                        1. Engine Oil + Filter change
                        2. Air Filter change
                        3. Spark plug change
                        4. Coolant level check
                        5. Front and Rear brake pad check
                        6. Chain tension check
                        7. Diagnostics Tool check

Is there any other checks/replacement to be done?

For eg Throttle body cleaning, Fork oil change, Brake Fluid change. When are these supposed to be done?

And also is valve clearance check mandatory? The ASC always seem to avoid this job citing there is no valve noise.

Fuel filter too. These days all filters come in a periodic service kit.
Don't touch the valve clearances unless you are having the noise and or cold starting trouble. To adjust the clearance on the Duke, you would need to change shims, which I doubt the svc would have in stock. So it's better they don't fiddle around with the valve clearances.
No need to replace the other fluids like fork or brake fluid. You can do these at close to the two year mark. Same for TB cleaning.. It's not a difficult job, but not required so early on unless you are really facing some issues like hiccups during acceleration.

Looks like it needs a gasket replacement. Should be covered under warranty. If it's not too much oil dripping out, you can wait till the first service to get it fixed. But do bring it to the attention of the svc right away.

2 Years or 30,000 kms, whichever is earlier. Actually, fork oil seals can and will be changed under warranty if found faulty. Post warranty expiration, you'd have to pay for the seals. 400~ rupees.
