Re: KTM 200 Duke
Hello, I'm from Mumbai and I plan to get a second hand KTM duke 200. I'll mainly travel in the city. I'm 22 and 5'9. My question is, can I tune the suspension to make the ride softer? Does this bike skid too much? It happened to me only once on my friends KTM when I did some panic breaking. I don't see any other good bike for 70-80k or shall I put all my money on the TVs 200 abs? Its just that the brand is TVS so I'm not sure and rather prefer KTM.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
I'm from mumbai, i too bought a used duke 200. Yes u can tune thw suspension to soft or hard but only rear one. The front one too will seem little hard at first but u will get used to it. Bike doesn't skid. I drove nearly 13k including this monsoon and never had such an infortunate event. But also consider i m a sane rider and a situation of panic breaking is very rare for me. Duke and rtr200 hav no comparision imo. They hav their own segments, duke has short gearing and is decent for city ride like mumbai. Rtr wil surely give better mileage if thats what u looking after. Also from i have been following in duke forum, engine is reliable and maintanence is pretty low even after buying an old bike. But i believe if you can not control ur urge to rev hard u shud stay away from either of the bikes.Originally posted by Hollowback View PostHello, I'm from Mumbai and I plan to get a second hand KTM duke 200. PS: i ride close to 100km per day every single working day. And it doesnt hurt ur bums if u add extra cushion on seats for a few hundered bucks. Neiher does it create strain in arms or shoulder.

Front is ok, its great that i can tune the back one.
well, i am a sane rider too, i don't ride mad fast.
im just looking for a good bike and ktm seems to check all the boxes.
i think i can extra 35-40kmph on a Duke 200, that should be good enough for me.
My friend once showed me a mileage of 46 on the meter.
RTR200 seems good but then again its all about reliablity and maintaence as well, i guess the quality wont match up to the ktms.
i would love to add cushions on the seats.
i think that settles it then.
my last question would be this
Ktm is planning to re-launch duke/rc next year along with ABS.
Should that be of any concern to me?
Also is a new KTM duke 200 worth it? 1.6 Iac I think 3450 emi.Last edited by Hollowback; 07-25-2016, 10:33 PM.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
U get all modifications in Bangalore..Originally posted by amarendra.ar23 View PostAnyone have contacts of person who can modify my headlights in bangalore. Is it safe to modify? Visibility at night is very low.. Any help will be appreciated.
Goto JC road and you will find stuff. Now the question is that what you want.. Which kind of headlight. Xenon, led, projector, powerful halogens. Plus what quality are you looking onto(cheap or costly-branded)
Do let me know i will help you out with the name of person.
Guy's I finally installed Ixil's Hyperlow L3X myself on my Duke yesterday...

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Well there r strong roumers of change in entire ktm line up for 2017. I never owned rtr and neither does anyone in my group but what i hav heard is that tvs too is reliable. When i told my mechanic about ktm mileage he was shocked to listen it gives 35kmpl in city and 40+ on highway after 2yrs also. But u hav to make a choice between ur requirements. Ktm is superb in handling even on wet and gravels. Its a mix of on road and light offroad. Price is a subjective topic i found solace in used duke200 as my budget was way to extended for it also. On the other hand many ppl told me new bikes under 90k-1lac wud hav been a good option. But i had my heart on duke.Originally posted by Hollowback View PostHey, Kundalus.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
oh you prefer a mechanic? i my self wanna make the ktm a DIY bike. my friends told me they service the bike right in front of you, so it seems to be reliable?Originally posted by kundalus View PostWell there r strong roumers of change in entire ktm line up for 2017. honestly, i don't like to service my bike, if its not happening right in front of me.
ktm sounds good to me.
Also, Where is your mechanic located?
if i would buy a new bike under 1 lac that would be Gixxer 155, but i fear that it might be too slow in the future for me, ktm seems fine.
I'll just rethink about the rumors thing, and then decide
might keep the bike for a year or two.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Jeshurun, please share some pics of the bike with exhaust.
Guys I had a few questions -
1. Is it necessary to take off the chain for changing/cleaning the chain slider?
2. When I rotate the rear wheel manually on a paddock stand there is a sound coming from front sprocket even though the chain slack is okay.
3. The area near the engine is greasy with much grime and oily dirt. Much like chain after lubing..
4. Rust won't go even after scrubbing
Please advise how to resolve these small issues.

The bike is dirty bcz of rains in bangalore.Originally posted by Vishal_G View PostJeshurun, please share some pics of the bike with exhaust.

Answers to your questions:
1) You need not clean the chain slider normally. To remove the chain slider... U have to remove the rear wheel, chain and chain cover to remove the slider.
2) The sound is bcz of the dirt + grime + grease. Please clean it.
3) Remove the cover over the front socket and use kerosene liberally to clean the grease. Use a small metal wire/thin stick to remove the grease and clean it of with kerosene.
4) Try using WD40 and scrub it. If it's not going... Leave it for now and maintain the chain and both sprockets properly after u change them the next time.
Guruji's feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

temp going in to the upper segment happens usually when you rip hard and then the bike is in stop go traffic for a long time and you turn off the engine.
and i don't think the idle should be increasing to 2-2.5k. It should still idle at the ~1500rpm
i have d200 that has similar mileage and I was once stuck in traffic for around 2 hours and the temp never crossed the lower segment.. it was in fact two points shy of the lower segment most of the time. if you let the fan run (rather than switch off engine) the temp will be under control.
Please get it checked at the svc.. it could be a bad idle control stepper motor and while you are at it, you might also want to change the coolant if its been close to two years.Originally posted by Srvn View PostIt isn't to do with coolant in your case I believe, recommend to change it, if it has been over two years since the last change or it was never be replaced at all, but I'm certain, coolant is not causing high coolant temp message to pop-up and idle rpm climbing to 2/2.5k.
Your radiator fan has begun giving up, trust me I have been there. I faced very symptoms on my 200D (2012 model) 3 months back with 25k kms on odo and bike was 3.4 years old. Exactly 25 to 30 minutes into the trip and your idle rpm rises to 2/2.5 rpm and 10-15 minutes later high coolant temp message shows up. Turn back may be 30 pages or something to see my post regarding the same.
As sid said, no matter how hard you rip your bike / be stranded in crawling traffic conditions, coolant temp would never cross the last two points in the lower segment in ideal conditions, unless fan is not able to keep up in bring down the temp. Yours seems like 2013 model, so I guess both yours and mine came with Minda manufactured radiator fan.
Replace coolant if it is old as said above, but please check at the svc (using the diagnostic tool) as to how long it takes for the fan to bring down the temp once the fan kicked-in, repeat this for more than twice and observe, record the duration of how long the fan takes. If it is spinning for two long then you know where the issue is.
Motul inugel coolant 1L costs around 190/- and importantly 200D gulps precisely 1L, if drained properly.
Keep us posted.
cheers,
SrvnHello,Originally posted by s1d View PostGet it checked at the svc. They can connect their diagnostic tool and check if the fan is coming on at the predefined temp. and how long it takes to go off. In my observation the fan has never stayed on for more than 90 seconds continuously under normal use(City traffic/traffic jams), in fact most of the time it turns off in less than 60 seconds (and comes back on after a minute or so if still stuck in traffic)
It's time you changed the coolant since its been 2+ years.
The normal idle for the d200 is 1400~1500 rpm (goes up-to 1600 for a couple of seconds on a cold morning)
There is a plug on the molex connector with two pins jumpered. If for some reason you lose the flasher module or it misbehaves, it might be impossible to start the bike if those two pins are not jumpered. So when you remove the plug and put in the flasher, keep the removed connector under the seat(in toolkit) so that you can put in back if needed.
Don't worry about that tape, only bajaj knows why they put on a tape and even if the svc is smart enough to point out a missing 'tape'
you can always feign ignorance.
Today I got the issue rectified. It was the radiator fan which was running at a super low speed/efficiency and also it was not switching On every time when it had to. So, they replaced it with a new Fan and now the temperature is not shooting up and everything is normal now. Nothing else was changed.
Cost of Fan : 1160 + 316 ( Labour Charges ) approx.
Thanks.
