The stock setting is at 3, and yours is at 3.
You see those ridges (or peaks and valleys) like a wave.. and the 'notch' on top that is in the third valley. As you turn it(the bottom part) using the special tool, the notch will sit up in the higher valleys making the pre-load stiffer. i.e the lower portion with the peaks and valleys can be turned either way to go up or down the setting.

      Jeshurun, thanks for the help.

So, tomorrow I will take off the engine cowl, chain slider and front sprocket cover for thorough cleaning. Will get the pre-load setting for the rear suspension to 5.

What should be idle slack in chain for a rider weighing 80kgs with a pillion of around 70-75kgs and also suspension preload at 5 is ok for this load?

Refer to the manual or a few pages back on this thread for the ktm recommended chain slack.. and then give it a bit more slack (say around atleast 5mm more) and preload at 5 is ok for your use case. You can always bump it up or down, but 5 is a good starting point.

Got baby Duke delivered today.. can't get hands off it...
Have a question, is the turn indicators are auto cancelling or not? It never turned off for me but my old Pulsar 150 had auto turn off.. also indicator switch felt too plasticky..

While riding home back every body was singling that head lights are on..

No auto cancel. Push to cancel.

Accelerator cable got cut two days back in heavy traffic. It got cut near the handle bar. It was a nightmare.
Pushed all the way 2Km to local mechanic went 30km to Ktm spares to get accelerator cable.
Bike is just 6 months old.

How hard is changing the rear suspension preload setting?

My svc guys - 3 of them are at it for last 30 mins and only managed to get it at 4.

Got the rear suspension preload setting to 5. Took exactly 45 mins after trying 3 hook spanners and 3 people.

                      Damn, 5 is hard.

ensure the free-play is set correctly. cable snapping in 6 months is a rare occurrence.. maybe just your bad luck.
In case of emergency you could probably make use of a throttle cable from bajaj scooter.. at least that's what my ktm svc mechanic told me! There might be other options as well for the throttle cable.

                        45 min shouldn't take 45 seconds.
i am 90kg and i find 6 a bit stiffer, 5 perfect.. but it's been on 6 since almost 9 months now (used it on 5 for almost a year prior) works well if you carry a pillion often. no chain noises/issues, done 23k km in almost 2 years now.
drive around for a month or so and you will get adapted to it.

My KTM 200 duke has been having the following problems recently,

                          1) Engine heating up once in a while (Coolant level seems alright)
                          2) Pick up is slow

Could someone tell me what the possible issue might be? I would like to have some idea before I go to the mechanic.

                            1) Do you get 'high coolant temperature' warning on console ? if 'yes', get the fan checked as recently I also had this issue, but occurrence was daily. Also make sure if mud/dust is getting accumulated on engine area and below, keep it clean as it raises the temperature and also the radiator grills should be clean time to time.

                            2) Check the 'tyre pressure' , 'chain is lubed properly' and 'clutch cable play is correct'.

How old is your bike ( ODO reading ? )

                            Cheers .

That's unfortunate, I bet the play was not set correctly . My bike is around 2.5 years old with daily heavy traffic ride, never had to change the cables. Also please keep a spare cable set with you and learn to change it by yourself as you have to travel that far.

Hi Sid, thanks for the help man.

However, my bad luck just doesn't end. Upon closer inspection I found the ASC guys have damaged the suspension adjustment grooves in this 40min process.Click image for larger version

As you can see the suspension grooves have been damaged and a lot of scratches the frame.

Send these pics to [email protected] and [email protected] and explain to them what was done and demand (politely) a replacement of the monoshock.
Apart from the scratches i think i notice a chip off of the metal under the adjusting groove, if that's the case then you better shoot an email.
This probably will not affect the suspension working, but that kind of incompetent work shouldn't go unpunished
