  • Re: KTM 200 Duke

Just got after getting the clutch cable yoke(mirror holder) changed and saw this as soon as I parked the bike.

Can anyone tell what might be the reason for the leak. The reservoir is empty.

      Cheers!

Since your coolant tank is empty and the coolant is spewed all over the engine, do check the hose that connects to the reservoir from the neck of the radiator cap. If that is nicked, cracked or loosened, the entire coolant reservoir will be drained. Bend below the radiator and inspect for any loose hanging tube underneath the reservoir and what not.

I am surprised at this one. The last I checked it was mentioned till the warranty period of the vehicle. Appreciate the heads up, will get back to you after I get some more information on this one.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
        The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

        THE END

Got the oil filter & spark plug changed. Air Filter seemed clean so it was put back after blowing compressed air through it.

Will get the fuel filter replaced. It has not been replaced till now.

          Thanks!

if I remember correctly, the forks seals have a life of over 15K kms.. don't see the point of having a "5K" kms limit.. maybe it's something at the service center's end to make more money?? personally - I never knew they were under warranty, I simply replaced them normally... wish I knew this earlier..

live long.. live happy.. that's the best revenge that can be served to the people who hate you..

I've had the fork seal replaced under warranty and iirc my bike was over 10k km and a year old when the right side seal gave up.
I only had to pay for the fork oil.. the seal and labor was free.

they are probably trying to avoid 'free' repairs and make some money. no svc wants to do warranty repairs

you have never replaced the fuel filter in the past 1yr ??
it's recommended you change it approx every 7500km. the air filter may last longer depending on the conditions the bike is driven in. Usually close to 10k km.

Cant tell you without inspecting. Check all the hoses/their connections and the radiator cap. Fill up the radiator and expansion tank with water and ride it to the svc and let them check it thoroughly. then drain whatever remains and fill up with fresh coolant.

Nope. Came to know about the fuel filter only after you told me!

                Will get it replaced ASAP.

                Thank you!

Hey, I have recently had my head gasket replaced under warranty as my coolant went dry. Now I have the same issue after running the bike for 600km and the coolant has gone low, please see the attachments below and let me know.
                  Thanx

Observe the bubbles in the coolant reservoir

If the coolant inside the reservoir is bubbling, we have a compression leak that's leaking into cooling system, possibly an improperly installed cylinder head gasket. This is pending disaster. If not looked into it, the gasket can leak coolant into oil and worse can seize the motor. Time for another visit to the SVC unfortunately.

                    Cheers!

I thought so...same is the case with cars, I guess it needs another warranty repair.

From the past year or so, ktm has been providing all the filters together (air, fuel &oil) in something called a 'periodic service kit' that costs approx Rs.470 and is usually used during general services.
You can of course get them individually, which is useful if you usually don't clock as many km between services and only want to replace the oil filter but let the other two stay on a bit longer. Considering the km you have clocked, it would be good to change the fuel filter (i personally wouldn't keep the fuel filter in longer than 10000km).

Visited the ASC today. Filter not in stock. Will check on Saturday.

During service the oil filter was brought in its individual packet, so looks like my ASC (Navelim, Goa) doesn't use this periodic service kit.
