Got my classic 350 after the mandatory waiting period, you know the unnecessary rite of passage before owning any RE bike. Was super excited to finally own my own motorcycle, bought with my own savings of more than 8 months. The Silver Classic 350 belongs to the last of the ones with an old label design.

Drove the bike with utmost care till the first 500 km well within the prescribed run in speeds. Noticed loss of paint near the speedometer but ignored it as a patchy paintjob. Finally the time came for to add a few km on the odo, planned a trip from Hyderabad to Vijayawada and back on one weekend. Filled up the tank and slept happy with anticipation.
The next morning rode till hearts content for the first 100 km, well within the prescribed 70 kmph limit mind you. Near Narketpally, the accelerator response failed and my first reaction was F#(k! engine failure. Stopped the bike immediately and examined to find a broken chain.

                Can you believe it?

The Chain of a less than a 2 month old Royal Enfield Classic 350 broke at less than 1000 km, 987 to be exact at morning 7.45 pm.
And than the Nightmare began. Had to push the bike till the nearest mechanic. Imagine pushing a 200 kg hulk of deadweight. The mechanic at the nearest shed some 4 km away told me that RE chains are hard to find but there is RE showroom at Nalgonda some 14 km away.

I on my part started calling RE showroom people at Hyderabad who had sold me the bike, praying maybe they could send someone to help, Hoping RE would have A national breakdown network or something. Thesales guy who sold me the bike gave me a few numbers including one of the breakdown managers who blankly told me that their service ends at Uppal, Hyderabad and i was some 70 kms from Hyderabad limits. My best chance was with RE showroom Nalgonda.
Hailed an auto, went till the showroom, showed them my broken chain. As luck would have it, Chains come under perishables and hence are not covered by warranty. Paid 535 for the chain plus another 200 for the breakdown charges, Hired another auto for the mechanic and me, went back 14 kms to my bike, had its engine lose its virginity, replaced the chain. Saw a metal imperfection below the sprocket teeth which i believe could have slowly cut through the chain, but the mechanic was insistent that these kind of things happen. After fixing the bike, rode off my fixed course to drop the mechanic near his showroom and paid him an extra 50 for his on demand chai paani .

Sure my heart bled to see my brand new 1000 km old bike being molested like that but such was the fate. Completed rest of the trip with a constant prayer on my mind

Anybody advice me what to do further. How do i contact the concerned authorities or service managers at RE? I am going to the ASC tomorrow to check their reply.

If anyone from RE does read this post by any chance, thank you for teaching me patience.

Man don't use this word, this is not the language of educated people. your problem can be understood but there are other better words to put up your problem, you can go harsh with proper language also, now coming to your problem it's very sad plus heart breaking to know what has happened to you, write your complaint directly to the company in strong words and post a photo of your bike's broken chain also and then see from there how the company replies to your complaint.

made the necessary changes to the original post. my emotions got better of me.

Went to the ASC, the guys there were total jerks. They were behaving as if i took a hammer and a chisel and intentionally broke my bike's chain. No one knew the reason why it happened. They were more concerned about not refunding the money i had paid for the new chain and its replacement. I was more concerned about not repeating the same horror again.

Spoke to the RE TSM for Hyderabad, he was concerned about the quality issues and promised to put a qualified mechanic to look on it. Lets see how that goes

I don't think of your bike's chain breaking again, although breaking of chain can be quite dangerous, this incident has happened to one of my neighbour and he was hospitalised for 2 months, just check the front and rear sprockets the teeth should be in proper shape, and if they aren't in shape change them also, make sure the chain is not touching anywhere to the metal part, plus i will again say write to the company directly, RE svc or infact svc of any 2wheeler company in India are poor so either you have to find a good outside mechanic or learn yourself to keep your bull in top shape.

                        • Royal Enfield C5 ECU MIL light Problem

Hi friends my RE C5 is giving me suspicion. Few days back had posted about it the RE showroom guy told a solution but problem not salved. Few weeks back my bikes MIL light blinked once as soon as I used Electric start and went off. This happened frequently. So asked the RE showroom guys. They advised to change battery. Last week I put new SF Sonic 12v 14 amp new battery. But the MIL light still blinks ones I use electric start. This doesn't only happen in mornings but throughout the day, whenever I use ES. Please advice what should be done.

                                Hello brother.
First of all congrats on the new ride.
You can get all the info you need in the motorcycle ownership thread in this site.
As far as changing the silencer is concerned, please check how will it effect the warranty. In most cases if the user modifies his bike in any way that is not recommended by the company, the warranty is gone, which is not good in the long run.
So please check with your service center about the warranty issues, before going for any aftermarket modifications.
I own a R 15 v2 and I'm not even allowed to change a bulb from outside of the service center. It may differ in case if RE. Please check and then do what you feel is best.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.
