If you have the time hang around for the service. But if you do not, even then its perfectly safe with them. This is basis my experience with them.

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
I got my Fuel Tank changed yesterday with the new order tanks which come with a galvanized finish which prevents the issue of rusting in the inside of the tank and also avoids the paint wearing off which might block the fuel pump. Thanks to Mr. Mohan, Sales Manager, RE OMR the work was done perfectly. I had earlier quoted a couple other issue which are to be addressed sooner.Originally posted by Ashwin Karthikeyan View PostA lot of the thunderbird from the initial lot had painted tanks at the lid area, whereas now they have been converted to galvanised tanks. And the best part is that RE doesn't care to keep the owners informed reg the issue.
My suggestion here is that, anyone having a fuel tank which isn't galvanized and if there is any paint wear off seen better get them looked into. The importance here arises majorly because the Thunderbird 500 uses an injector pump and not a carburetor.

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
dear riders,
again today for 4th time I had incident of rear brake getting jammed, and same old story continues from ASC from Bangalore, saying its fine it won't jam again, etc..... which I have been hearing from past 3 times, not sure if they have fixed it for good this time, surprising they claim this time, its got nothing to do with bleeding nor the actual brake oil flow or pump, but its just brake adjustment, which i am not 100% confident that it will occur again. but their claim is it won't and its fixed 100%
has anyone face this frequent rear brake jam problem ?? what i am unable to digest is the actual reason ?? why after 10-15 mts of cooling down the bike the jam gets auto released ?? and why this jam occurs ? there has to be some reason for the same ?? can anyone please throw some light on this ??
cheers,
Narendra Pawar

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
Done with 800 kms, got 462 kms out of last tankful giving a fuel efficiency of 30kmpl approx with both highway and city riding combined. Had given it for first service too during this time, had oil and oil filter changed, clutch adjustment was also done. The bike was pulling slightly to right, so fork adjustment was done, they kept the bike an extra day for that. The bill for servicing came out to be Rs 1040/-
The bike is running smooth after the servicing, no pulling in any direction, neutral is slotting in properly, braking seems to be more responsive, on the whole the ride feels much improved now.
P.S- I had got the servicing done from King's AutoRiders in Pune which was my dealer too , their service is good and quite satisfactory and recommended to all the Punekars.

As to your question. Firstly the paint shouldn't peel off in the tank area. Now they have removed the painted tanks totally. It is all galvanized tanks that are being used.
Is your tank having paint peel off inside the opening and is there direct contact possibility of contact with the fuel? If so, then if your vehicle is under warranty directly go and claim it. If it is outside the rim of the tank then it is of quite lesser worry but again if your vehicle is warranty protected go for it.
Bloody I just don't understand how is it that RE gives a response as paint will rust and it is common. Wondering how they do the peel off test. With cellophane tape maybe!!

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
Any pics for reference ?
On another note: I was at chawla motors (royalEnfieldzone.com) at Karol Bagh yesterday... Quite impressed with some of the stuff I saw there. They have a top case (car case they call it) with integrated lights. Not too large, it seemed an ideal buy for the TB.... Anybody installed it? Only thing I'm not too sure of is the weight capacity.... Wanted a reviewIf you are not afraid, you have probably chosen too easy a mountain to climb!!

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
My tb500 is at ASC for replacement of rear disc brake kit. Its been 5 days since the bike is there. The brake is not getting engaged. The caliper is not responding on the new kit too. Tried everything. I am fedup and so are all the mechanics at the ASC.

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
ask them to consult other ASC, may be b'lore one, b'cose I too had same issues, they need to do bleeding which takes easily 2-3 hours timeOriginally posted by simao View PostMy tb500 is at ASC for replacement of rear disc brake kit. , I too was surprised and its irritating to know that enfield has not thought about some intelligent way of doing this, especially for rear brake, since the flow of oil is so complicated, the brake oil tank is near engine, while the pedal is further near footrest and the disc is at rear side, so it takes lot of effort to ensure the oil flows smoothly, versus the front system has natural gravity to ensure the smooth oil flow.
believe me, this problem will always reoccur whenever the rear tyre is removed
ask your guys to use front brake lever and system such that its easier to pump the lever till the bleeding is completed compared to manually applying pedal of rear brake.
cheers

And yes its irritating for the mechanics as well as myself. Will try what you have suggested. Enfield should learn a lesson from these issues. seems like the brake is a failure and a drawback.

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
A few weeks back, I observed chrome layer peeled off at some places on my Blue Bird's crash-guard.
Yesterday, I rode to Quality Metal Indutries and showed it to Rizwan Ahmed from whom I bought the crash-guard on 17 April 2013. He remembered me, arranged for removal of the crash-guard from the bike and asked me to come today. I called him in the afternoon and he confirmed that it was ready. I rode there and got it fitted. The entire unit was re-electro-plated and the crash-guard looked shining and brand new. There is no trace of exposed metallic surface. The entire work was done free of cost. I am thankful to Quality Metal Industries for their prompt action.
Now, my Blue Bird enjoys the fully-covered comfortable nest.
