- Owners who already have bigger bikes, gets the 390 for occasional rides. Ride it like you stole it types. I've seen a case where a one and half year old bike had 700 kms on the odo. That too his servant takes it out for a short spin after weekly wash.
- Others who just buy 390 for the sake of it and sell it after getting bored of it lying around in garage.
- Others are underage riders, College students who are ready to race on public roads. Starts the bike with a wheelie and parks with a stoppie and finally ends up totalling the bike.
- Just visit any KTM svc, you'll find n number of totalled 390's. Most of them are repaired under insurance and sold. The plastic panels are dead cheap, so the bike may look spic and span, but the core components might have taken beating.
- Those who love the bike and take good care of it, might never sell it too soon. So the few hundred kms old bike for sale is mostly the former case, which will burn a hole in your pocket, once the bike goes for service.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
My bike will complete one year on March 12th.
Will post an exhaustive long term review, including all stats.
Keeping it reserved till then.
Anyways, I had broken rims issue in first month of purchase, replaced under warranty, rest of the parts under insurance.
But no major problems apart from that in my 15k kms usage, only the head gasket & air filter housing needed replacement under warranty.sigpic

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
If you've been following this forum for a while, you'd have seen a webcast of KTM RC launch, during which time, journalists asked several questions regarding the rim cracking issues and whatnot and Bajaj has promptly replied the rims have been made better on the newer models, of RC, which obviously trickles down to the naked series.Originally posted by venky View Postthanks for your reply VJ. I live in outskirts of coimbatore, so no worry about riding inside city. My drive will be mostly touring, even then I feel the temperature bar is higher than the normal. As you said high compression engine generates much heat is a point to be taken before thinking 200 and 390. Hope some xbhpians could find a solution.
Few days before I read in websites about duke 390 2015 model have 19 updates and two things I much appreciate KTM are adding slipper clutch and radiator fan heat is directed towards lower portion of the bike. I hope this would save our legs. I have to test the updated model and decide.
Meanwhile is there any issues of rim breaking or chain blocking situations in any part of india or abroad. I think all our duke loving xbhpians would be well aware of it. Is there any changes in rim announced by KTM or Bajaj.
Rim are like any are made of metal, and metal do have stress tolerances, the Duke with its lesser sidewall profile and a wider tire and a harder front suspension means the rims are working hard on every pothole to dissipate the shock as much to the tires and forks. I myself have bumped over speed breakers and potholes here in Kotagiri with speeds upwards of 85+ and I never cared to stop unless I reached Ooty to inspect, and not a single scratch or anything unduly on the rim. It all depends on the rider weight too, I weigh a clip over 14 stones, and I haven't had any problems.
The newer lots have been upgraded and even more betterment has been done on the ergo and reliability side, so this petty issue shouldn't deter you from purchasing your motorcycle.
There is a biker group in Coimbatore who are members of xBhp, you can tag along with them for rides, G2G and what not. Link below.
Cheers!

The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Very useful info vijesh. Everyone who buys a new duke now will be aware of what model they are buying.
----consecutive posts auto-merged-----
thanks VJ. I am not following the forum. just one week before I entered into it. well it will go on from now. KTM and Bajaj are quick to rectify their faults and the new updates makes 390 more appealing to head and heart.Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostIf you've been following this forum for a while, you'd have seen a webcast of KTM RC launch, during which time, journalists asked several questions regarding the rim cracking issues and whatnot and Bajaj has promptly replied the rims have been made better on the newer models, of RC, which obviously trickles down to the naked series.

It is advisable that you increase rpms gradually, and not in one go.
Thanks mate, i did not cross 6k rpm so far, hardly went upto 7k rpm for few times, no problem will keep the revs accordingly.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
My bike has done 700 km so far next week I will go for first service.
Need an advice on how often you guys do the chain tightening. While taking the delivery demo guy told me do it every 500km but I did not observe chain getting loose.... So experts pls suggest...

Is is advised to lube the chain every 500kms. But Keep checking the links, if they appear dry, then you have to lube irrespective of the interval.Originally posted by Vijesh View PostYou are right, my bad....its chain lubing what he mentioned to do every 500 kms...i feel its too less....so want to know about others who are already riding duke from long.....how often they do ....in terms of kms...
Usually happens in rainy season or if you ride in a dusty environment often.
One more thing, some people don't clean chain everytime before lubing, even the svc guys.
Sometimes they just spray the lube without cleaning prior to it.
Insist on cleaning the chain if you're getting it done at svc.
It's better to DIY.
390 is prone to chain slack very often, so there is no particular interval. If you observe chain slapping, then get it tightened.
Otherwise chain develops uneven slack, post which, adjusting the chain slack becomes difficult coz you need to keep checking the slack at various points.sigpic
