Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Umm are you sure that its only 1000rs ? love the way ktm prices their partsOriginally posted by abhijeet080808 View PostUpdate regarding speedo shows 0 issue - It is indeed the stator coil.
I checked the coil myself. The coil is shorted to the ground - resistance between any one of the 3 wires from the stator coil to the GND should be infinity. However it is not. Moreover, on starting the bike, the battery does not charge.
The stator coil costs 1000 bucks. And I have decided to replace the coil myself. The more I can keep the bike away from SVC, the better it is for its health.
Bangalore guys - The nearest SVC to my place, BTM KTM does not have the stator coil in stock. Any suggestion on which SVC has the highest probability of having this part in stock?
, but sadly as you pointed out most svc's do not keep sufficient stock and one ends up waiting (am currently waiting on a rear view mirror)Sometimes they refuse to sell over the counter and if they do, they sometimes include the labor charges for that part as well !! -- personal experience, I bought a clutch lever as a spare, and they added some 50-100rs as a labor for that
. I did give them some friendly bhashan but at least the svc i go to does complimentary chain cleaning and sometimes throws in a water-wash for free as well to me.
You could ask that BTM KTM guys to call the other service centers and ask if the part is available, that would be better rather than you asking yourself.

Why are you playing a guessing game. Just prop up the bike on the paddock stand, get a bottle of water mixed with a couple of drops of shampoo and a sponge and start checking the tyre by soaking the sponge and squeezing it out on the tire as you rotate it.Originally posted by Panini View PostREAR TIRE LOSES PRESSURE
Hey guys, my rear Metz seems to lose around 10-12psi in a week.
I fill it up to 31 and it reaches 18-20 soon.
I'd wager there's a micropuncture. Any other diagnoses?
What can I do about this? Would a regular puncture patch up at any random mechanic suffice?
Also, is it safe to ride on the highway with such a tyre?
Or simply take it to a puncture guy to have it checked. Normally a puncture plug that's inserted from the outside would do, though the mushroom patch that is applied from the inside of the tire is always better.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
All bikes have their own set of niggles. Adulterated fuel is bad for all bikes. But the rate of wear n tear will b more pronounced in a ktm. But I reckon that it can survive for 5yrs for the usage u have mentioned. At the max it may need a rebuild at the end of 4 yrz. 1st two years or 30k kms(whichever is earlier) is covered under warranty. Don't worry too much. Bajaj n ktm both would have factored in the presence of adulterated fuel in our country, for that matter, all manufacturers know that, it's a naked truth. Use octane boosters if possible. Get the bike n get going, if u wait all that happens is u get old. 5 yrz down the lane u may still be tied up wid that adulterated fuel, will u then wait for another 5 yrz?? So no one knows what future holds...oops, i guess, something in my glass is adulterated. Before signing off, i would suggest you to go ahead with your plans of buying a KTM. It's pure 'adulterous' funOriginally posted by berudulom View PostFriends, I need some honest replies here. I am pretty interested in RC390 and since both share the same engine and this thread being the more busier and with more kms clocked on this particular single cylinder motorcycle, I have taken the liberty to post my queries here.
I live in a place where every petrol pump stocks only normal petrol and its a known fact here that most of them mixes kerosene and as such high adulterated fuel is available in most of the places( almost every place i can think of but giving it a benefit of doubt, maybe).
So the question is, can this high compression 373 cc motor survive on such poor diet? How would it affect the longevity of the engine as I am planning to keep it for at least 5 years. Your advice will be highly helpful and much appreciated as I have personally never experienced anything above a 200cc mill.

Goodluck.
Cheers.

But fuel here are so damaging that once my Uncle's Maruti Alto was choked to a halt. That's a one off case but Alto has a history of running even on fumes
and to get something like that to stop is no mere feat. Anyways there are a few D390 running around in my town, I gotta get hold of one of those owners and interview him.
As much as I like this features filled beautifully crafted machine, I fear the idea of having to pull and push it in middle of the traffic just in case its erratic mood in on the dreaded side. Btw, I am also considering N300, so lets see how things work out.

abhijeet080808,the last issue they allegedly replaced the abs sensor setup plus new wiring.well ,I can make out the new wiring. Before that they had replaced the entire electrical wiring for the bike(took 2days).my display still shows low battery even after a few hours of not using.the only thing left to replace is the battery as such.honestly,I don't trust the SVC nowadays but I have no choice.yes, the stator coil was replaced as well earlier.
Have to look into the brake issue as well.My 5+ year old fz still has a strong bite
To the guy enquiring about KTM lasting.Look its no Honda but I feel it will last as long as you have a good Asc+rapport with the same.Don't thrash it like you would usually.I have a Honda and Yamaha; they still work fine after close to decade of mixed use.
Plus, fuel quality:I have deceleration pops on the 390 even at low gears.Something I didn't have for a year at a different city. So,really you need to find a good pump.stay away from those regularly used by trucks/long haul vehicles for example.๔ยкє ҭђгєє ภเภєҭұ เภ ๓ұ שєเภร

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
As per the Quotation I got from the dealer today:
Ex-Showroom Price: 1,88,921.00
Road Tax: 15,284.00
Insurance: 4,679.00
Handling Charge: 3,380.00
=====================
OTR Price: 2,12,354.00
=====================
Now AFAIK dealers are not supposed to charge any handling charge because Ex-Showroom price is the price of the bike after it reaches the showroom. You only need to pay Road Tax and Insurance and register the bike to take it from the showroom on to the road. Correct me if I'm wrong. Are the other dealers also charging the handling charge?

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Problem - Bike shows 0 in the speedo when speed is below 20 kmph (approx), Above that speed, the speedo always works fine. Also, maybe accompanied with low battery warnings (not mandatory).
Cause - The charging system is not working correctly. Either the RR unit or the stator coil has gone bad. The speedo showing 0 is merely KTM's way of indicating the same. The speedo itself or the speed sensor are not faulty.
Verification - The charging voltage at the battery terminals with the engine ON would be less that 13V. Expected is 13.8V. The 3 wires from the stator coil should show infinite resistance with the GND. If this is not the case, stator coil is faulty. Else, have to replace the RR unit with a known working unit and run the above voltage test to isolate the issue.
Solution - Replace stator coil or RR unit as needed.
In my case, the stator coil was damaged. The stator coil costs some 1000 bucks. I had planned to replace it myself, and went to Auto Service, BSK, Bangalore to get the parts. However, the service there bowled me over and I ended up replacing it there itself. Auto Service gets 5 star from my end.
Here is how the damaged stator coil looked like -

Mail straight to KTM customer service. I got it refunded immediately. The handling charges that is.Originally posted by P3T3R View PostAs per the Quotation I got from the dealer today:

Why wait till you pick it up ?Originally posted by P3T3R View PostThanks. Will do that as soon as I pick up the bike.
And avoid any 'accessories' scam that they may throw at you. the rear view mirrors, front mudguard flap, crash guard, number plates, tool and first aid kit are all included in the price (though the first two items are only bolted on at the time of delivery)

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Sent the following complaint on the KTM website:
Quote
I intend purchasing a KTM, most probably a Duke 390 but want to Test Ride all 4 KTM's before taking the final decision. I have been visiting the dealer several times but I was denied a Test Ride every time. Following were the excuses given:
- Test ride bike is at the other showroom (Porvorim).
- Test ride bike was damaged during one of the test rides and is under repair.
- The person who would accompany me on the ride is not there.
I had also requested a Test Ride around 6 months ago and was given the same excuse of bike damaged during a test ride.
Also the sales rep did not show much enthusiasm in selling the bike and was more interested in "Book the bike and then we will see" or "You don't have any other option. Take it or leave it" attitude.
Unquote
Got a call within 5 minutes from the dealer saying that they will check which bike is available and send it to my place. I will discuss the matter of the handling charge at the time of booking and if they don't agree to waive it, will complain to KTM again.
Edit:
I was assured that I would be given a test ride of at least 1 bike and that the same would be sent to my residence. I told them that if they were prepared to give me a test ride on more than 1 of the models, I was willing to come to the showroom otherwise they could send the bike to my residence. I was told that they would call me and let me know. However I never received any call from them so I contacted them again but the persons who attended the call were not aware of any such plans for a test ride. They said they would inform the person who had contacted me in the morning to contact me again. Finally after about half an hour I got a call saying they would bring the bike by 4:30 PM. I gave them directions to my house. Instead of coming to my house they came to some other place and asked me to come there. Not wanting to make a further issue I went. I was given a short test ride with the guy sitting behind give me advise on when to change gears and how to brake. I just controlled myself and kept my cool. Didn't really get a chance to open the throttle but then the purpose of the ride was to acertain the comfort level. Not the most comfortable but not bad either. Now need to check out the Duke. Again they had no idea when they could give me a Test Ride on the Duke. If they don't do it tomorrow, I'll be shooting off another complaint to KTM.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
This is news to me. The dealer in Goa didn't say anything. In any case even if you book today the price at the time of delivery will be applicable.Originally posted by snapppy View PostJust read somewhere that KTM has increased prices across the range about 5-10K. if someone is one the fence, this is the right time to pick one up.
