Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Just completed reading the entire thread. Will be going to to showroom again today.
- Any reviews on the new MRF tyres for the D390?
- Seen some reviews on the Powertronic Box. Any reviews on the remaps? AFAIK Kiirus, Tune-o-tronics & Code 6 have remaps for the Duke 390.
Edit:
Just returned for the other outlet of the same dealer. They are expecting new stock by the end of the week. They still say 1 month booking but was willing to give a bike if I paid the whole amount. Also noticed that the 2015 bikes are coming without the hand guards. Is the the same story everywhere or is the dealer trying to make a fast buck.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
I think i just shot myself on the foot...ordered Metzelers through tyreonewheels last week. Paid Rs 10100. Now before you start laughing, i checked in KTM showrooms in Mangalore, Kasaragod, Kannur. No stock. They dont even know if they can order. Was browsing and saw this website and it looked pretty decent and i needed the tyres before this month end and went for it. Got the tracking number. It's been 7 days and still says processing. Lines are always coming busy. Again started browsing and came across complaints abt the website and now i'm feelin like an a@#. 95% ppl have given bad reviews. Tyres getting delivered after months together. Fortunately today i git to speak to a guy and he said it was dispatched yesterday, but i doubt it. Many of them have been told the same thing and they never got the tyre on time. The only good news is they do deliver, but in their own time. So that's my story....

If you have booked via credit card block the payment and email them regarding cancellation.Originally posted by THE46FAN View PostI think i just shot myself on the foot...ordered Metzelers through tyreonewheels last week. Or wait and hope everything turns out right.
At this price, it's definitely a very good deal. Currently priCing is close to 14k here in bangalore due to supply shortage.
The 160 section M5 are actually running cheaper @11k

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Guys, so after 1.5 years and 15k kms+ of ownership, my first issue cropped up. The infamous "speedo shows 0" issue. From what I have read on the internet, the stator coil seems to be the issue. Can't think how the 2 are correlated though.
So, has anyone faced this issue and got it resolved? If yes, please guide me here.Last edited by abhijeet080808; 03-25-2015, 10:20 PM.Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!

Yes you right this issue is related to stator coil. I got it changed last month under warranty. So just get it changed under warranty and this issue will be resolved.Originally posted by abhijeet080808 View PostGuys, so after 1.5 years and 15k kms+ of ownership, my first issue cropped up. There is a simple test to check a faulty stator coil (as mentioned in the workshop manual for the D125/Duke200). Pl read my earlier post http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...ml#post1136758Originally posted by abhijeet080808 View PostGuys, so after 1.5 years and 15k kms+ of ownership, my first issue cropped up. That is for the Duke 125/200 and should be similar for the 390 too.
The resistance value between Pin1 and Pin2 should read <=1ohm and also for Pin1 and Pin3 <=1ohm
And finally between Pin1 to Ground(battery -ve) should read infinity.
Or if the service center has a different way of checking it by checking voltages at different stages, then get that done.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
My headlamp is a bit dim these days. So when i took a look at the reflector, i saw a fog sort of formation on the top portion. Is this replaceable under warranty? Is there any diy workarounds for this? I think its due to the head made by the bulb. May be the reflective coating is gone.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Having made up my mind and despite having read majority portion of.the ownership thread few questions still pop up in my head
i) The bike heats up in traffic- no issue to that but question is will using it daily in such conditions to commute in say Chennai or Bangalore traffic reduce coolant levels quickly due to amount of heat generated
ii) Am not so good at DIY stuffs , I saw a video review which says that to lube the chain you need to remove the screws of the cover and this exposes the engine , so is there an easier way to lube or I saw it ok if it is lubed during service intervals itself even if I go for long 300-400 km trips
iii) Is it easy to maneuver the bike in bumper to bumper traffic due to d high amount of acceleration the bike provides .

1)The coolant is a sealed loop system, so shouldn't reduce in levels, if the coolant gets too hot, it will go into the expansion chamber, where it can overflow through to the breather pipe, which would only result in miniscule loses.
2) You should learn basic maintenance for any motorcycle, it's part of being a biker, you'll feel better for It and more at one with your machine!
3) never ridden a Duke, at the end of the day, it's a small bike and should be manageable in a city, so just chill and enjoy.

More than 98 percent of convicted criminals are bread eaters !
Statistics show that more than 75 % of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread !
Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !
Bread has been proven to kill. Scientists have now uncovered alarming evidence that 100% of the people who eat bread will eventually die !

As a owner of a D200 and having ridden the 390 as well here is my take on your questions :Originally posted by flux52 View PostHaving made up my mind and despite having read majority portion of.the ownership thread few questions still pop up in my head

1. Yes it does 'heat up' and the radiator fan would keep running more often compared to say the D200. And coolant level should normally not reduce, maybe very little during long running hours. as Stefann pointed out, the cooling system is a sealed system. If the temp/pressure in radiator goes beyond a certain limit, it will push the coolant to the reservoir/expansion tank (the plastic tank that you see)
2. Removing the plastic cover over the front sprocket for lubing the chain- Just not required everytime you lube the chain. you can get this area cleaned whenever you give the bike for a service.. Or maybe every 4000km depending on the conditions you ride in (considering that ktm has pushed up service intervals from 5000km to 7500km now)
A lot of people over lube the chain.. this only ends up dripping and then dust collecting around the front sprocket area eventually leading to sticky lumps of muck.
3. Yes it a very nimble bike, barring the 'heat' you may feel (but eventually get used to) in bumper to bumper traffic.. the 'amount of acceleration' is in your control

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
I have to agree with the guys who replied. Well said. For question 3. Duke 390 is by far the easiest bike to use in indian traffic barring the heat. The heat is definitely an issue. Wear jeans and shoes all the time. This will give you some protection from fried legs. Also learn to shift without clutch. Use clutch for first gear only. You should be good at timing the shift though. Else you will just ruin the gear box.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Just checked the D390 manual. The values are the same. Since the 0 comes on intermittently, it looks like a loose connection somewhere (inside or outside the stator coil). I think maybe these values too can be correct when checked.Originally posted by s1d View PostThere is a simple test to check a faulty stator coil (as mentioned in the workshop manual for the D125/Duke200). I will check the stator coil values and regulator output voltage this weekend before taking it to SVC.Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Thanks for.the reply guys , clear about point 1 and point 2. However about point 3 I would be interested in knowing the maneuvering in metro.cities like Chennai and Bangalore where you cannot overtake in heavy traffic and need to just use the bike in 1st or 2nd gear because during the test ride I felt the bike accelerates quickly and will be little difficult in extreme slow moving traffic conditions (of course it was just a 5 min test ride not enough to judge quiet well as I did not face such a traffic situation)

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
When in b2b traffic, you can leave the throttle and control the bike with just the clutch. Without any force on accelerator, the bike would move at 10Km/h speed relieving you of worries related to acceleration.
