I have changed to Speed, no difference yet, may be by tomorrow it should be fine. Yes, I'll keep you guys posted.

I have another relating query. If there is gasket/valves/oil/unusual oil consumption/oil burning irregularly problem will the ENGINE MALFUNCTION LAMP glow?
Yes the FI senses that the mixture is not perfect and it should indeed glow the lamp on the dash. So since you've pointed that it smells oily, white smoke gushing out of the exhaust, these could be valve stem oil seal or (worse case) the piston rings. But since once the engine is warm it doesn't smoke it's gotta be the valve seals, get them checked.

    Cheers!

Well, my initial presumption that it was not steam was right .. do take some video and pics before you head to the svc. If they still play around, shoot an email to bajaj/ktm.
Also do check the drained engine oil quantity (if you do drain it) and its appearance (there are test kits available in countries like USA that can detect presence of coolant in engine oil)
I highly doubt if the malfunction lamp would light up, simply because there are no sensors/circuitry to manage these parameters..no ??

Hopefully its a blown gasket or a valve job, and hope you dont go thru much trouble to get this fixed up.. fingers crossed !

Does the rear skid at hard braking. My D200 does that quite frequently usually on cement roads. I'm thinking of putting them on my bike.

Unless the clutch side casing is opened one cannot know if the coolant has indeed entered into the engine. If the coolant leak levels inside the engine are are low, the engine will very well, steam off the coolant, and the issue will go unnoticed. But once the clutch casing is opened, you can see if there is any emulsification/foaming of the oil with such contamination.

The reason I guessed the malfunction would lit up is, this is a closed loop system, so this uses exhaust gases to monitor send info to the FI system , so if the combustion is burning oil it should be notified, at least that's how FIs work. But I can be wrong about the notification. As a general rule, if there is any problem with fuel spray, emission, the light should lit up.

          Cheers!

Go a few pages back, probably a month or two. A member has made custom carrier for the KTM.

I never said its bad (maybe the way i put it across sounded like that) .. from what i have read and understand about the 300v, its a race specific oil..has lower detergent additives that help keep engine clean (engines used in racing are rebuilt ever so often so they do not require much of that cleaning additives etc etc..) and way too expensive from my point of view.. my mantra is regular oil changes by not spending a bomb. Whatever one is comfortable with and feels is right for their bike

Thanks legend c: exhaust note has greatly improved, sounds like a 2 cyclinder now with much bassier sound. So far i have observed improved power delivery from gears 1-2 and 4-5. With a slight torque loss at 3rd gear (longer time to reach redline for about a second). Just waiting for the powertronics piggyback ecu to be able to extract more power and correct the ecu mapping c: few backfires also experienced, like 1 in every 15 mins. Backfiring during deceleration.

Could it mean my ecu is running lean or rich?

And is it compulsary that i replace my stock air filter with a K&N one to compensate the increase in exhuast flow due to the Akra exhaust?

                                Hi Lynkchiz,

The Akra looks great on the bike. Ive read 2 things on other international forums regarding Akra installs on the Duke 390.

                                1. The Akra purchase is supposed to include a factory ECU remap that will bump up the power quite decently. Please check with the KTM center you purchased your Akra from for details on the same.

                                2. Whenever you install a 3rd party filter or exhaust or both, you are supposed to start the bike and let it idle for about 15 minutes so that the ecu adjusts to the new flow/system and performs better.

Please try out both of the above if you havent done them already.

The Powertronics ECU is great too. Be sure to inform them that you are running an Akra or intend to use a 3rd party filter so that they map the box accordingly. You can also do this later on your own though cos its very easy to use different maps on the PT box.

                                Cheers!
