yes mostly when it goes downhill and with that overoptimistic speedo console which shows a diff of around 12km/h. realistically the n300 does about 170-175 true.

I had this leak issue right from 2500Kms until 7000Kms. SVC guys tried to fix it 4 times and leak came back again. Lastly, I took it another SVC [Kasturba] and the issue got resolved after that. Now my bike has done 12000kms and I have not seen the issue reoccur...

As per SVC guys, trick is to replace all gaskets [head, valve etc in the head assembly] in the head at the same time.

Congrats mate on owning a hooligan of a bike

And you dont really have to change engine oil, but you can surely do it and you have to go for Motul 7100 10W50.

That plastic sound when you go over speed bump is mostly the tyre hugger hitting the rear part of the bike, nothing can be done about it apart from removing tyre hugger. Gear shifts do make a thud sound. Heard it reduces with time but mine is 5.3k on ODO and still makes a loud thud
Thank you so much for your advice.which is the best service center in chennai?anyone from chennai? Pls suggest.I also hear a plastic noise coming near the petrol tank.what's the source of the noise? Anyone experiencing this?

I don't have a 390 yet but I get the same sound on my Pulsar NS from the petrol tank region everytime I go over some road undulations.
Would love to know what that sound is.

          Regards

Not really, like the 390 the N300 reaches 170 the same way and later takes ages to go further. Just that you feel more stable in N300 at that speed due to its aerodynamics.

Sorry buddy, the only SVC name I know in Chennai is Adyar KTM, not sure how it is. Someone from Chennai here should be able to help you out

That plastic noise is mostly from the petrol tank cap or the overflow pipe on the left side of the tank. And this is common in all KTMs, nothing to worry

Thanks. It is better knowing its common in all KTMs:-P.I thought only my bike had that problem.Today I changed my engine oil, oil filter and cleaned both the oil strainers.I could clearly see lots of metal debris in the oil strainers.Forgot to take a picture.I did the following in adyar service center. The staff were really friendly.they finished the work within half an hour. Now the bike feels better and lot smoother.

Hi everyone, I am saving up cash for the orange hooligan & should pick it up in a month. my major concerns are the bike dying when clutch is pulled & the alloy shattering issue.
I lost krishna's thread about this & dont know what'happened. After a quick research on this, I feel its the ECU & the remapped ones should be good. I just want to know from owners who had remapped using kiirus or RD kits if they are experiencing this issue or its only on stock ECUs. I mean the consequence of bike dying while narrow overtaking is fatal. I'm not sure if I can post my query here. I am so very desperate to get my hands on this hooligan but this issue is giving me nightmares.
                pls help me understand.

Mods- Move this post if its irrelevant in here.

The engine stalling issue is rare in the newer lots of 390s. I havent faced it even once till now in my 5.3k on ODO *touchwood*. And two of my friends who bought same time as me (during Feb-Mar this year) have never faced that issue till date. So dont worry about it, no need for aftermarket ECU's as well

Some found this issue to be due to spark plugs or loose battery terminals. Also one guy found out that it is due to the clogged injector which can cause this, which is due to dirty fuel. Here is the video describing the same How to fix: KTM Duke 390 Engine stalling Problem (Common problem) - YouTube

If you keep going to good petrol bunks which you trust, this shouldnt happen.

Today I rode a 2013 duke and 2014 duke back to back
The setup seemed all different to me... Both the bikes had a different character !
The 2013 which rode for 7-8 days had lower idle rpm & had more weight at the back say 40:60 in favor or rear
The 2014 which I got today as a replacement today has a more front biased weight distribution say 50:50, a better brake bite & fluctuating idle rpm
In 1st gear if I rev it hard & I let go of the clutch suddenly both bikes behave differently
The 2013 tried to do a wheelie
The 2014 successfully does burn outs

I must say I like the character of the 2014 but I wish the idle rpm were stable like the old bike !
Anyone else tried comparing the two bikes?

The idle rpm in 2014 models were changed to address the issue with stalling when downshifting with clutch engaged.

Well some of it you mentioned isnt difference in model. 40:60 weight distribution wasnt there. How is it possible in a Duke to put 60% weight in the rear, which was already skeletal.

Regarding wheelie and burn out, it has got more to do with temperature of the tyre and traction.

                            Maybe you are right
But it can't be all down to tyre temperature .... Because for some reason 2014 never seems to do a wheelie... The weight difference at the front is so apparent... That it was the first thing u notices
And yes 50:50 & 60:40 is more like I felt it... I never technically checked the weight bias on any machine... It was all how I felt

Allow me to shed more light on what I meant... When I pull the clutch... Revs go upto 2000 rpm and then fall back to 1700.
If I put it into neutral... It will do 1800 or so
Manual suggests it should do 1650 or so , which I checked this morning

The 2013 bikes used to idle at 1500 rpm (same as indicated in manual) but they increased it to 1800 in 2014 models to help prevent stalling. And the above example of revs increasing when clutch is pulled when you are on the move does exactly that, preventing stalling. It is more like a workaround than a proper fix for the problem
