Good addition due to the fact that from the day since I picked up this one I have never even checked the tyre pressure once
Plus I just realized, I never really tried this bike with empty or less than a quarter tank.
Adding all this I realize how stupid I was assuming it was weight bias when it was down only to tank being full and tank being empty [emoji16]

I am facing starter problem with my 1 month old duke now.The issue started after first service during which the Gasket was also replaced.
It is not exactly a Hot/Cold starting issue as it happens randomly.
Sometimes it just starts within ~1-2 seconds of pressing starter and without accelerator while sometimes it just refuses to start even after keeping starter button pressed for 5+ sec..there is usually a blast of air from silencer along with slightly loud sound and i need to give some acceleration along with starter for starting the bike.once started if i cut off the engine and start again,it starts within a seconds and without any extra acceleration.
This is not specific to cold/hot start as in morning when i took out my bike it started within a second but while taking it out from office in evening it took 3 tries of almost 5 sec each along with acc.
It also happens at traffic signals randomly d.
Luckily it happened 3-4 times while i was at Kasturba road KTM SVC but as per them this behaviour is fine and sometimes bike needs accelerator along with starter for the same.
As per them bike is alright as most of the times it starts normally within 2 seconds.Has anybody faced the similar starter problem happening randomly or can anyone suggest me what may be the reason. i am planning to go to SVC this saturday and get it checked again.

sounds like detonation in the exhaust, definitely pay more attention to it and take it to the asc.. could be caused due to wrong ignition timing or afr mix (not sure if bad quality fuel can cause this). Can't say for sure without seeing/hearing how it sounds. Do get it fixed at the asc.. maybe a ecu reflash might fix it

          Hey maverim,

I have faced similar starting issues. Its not regular though. I associate it with the cold starts coz once the engine is up and running for a few minutes, it runs like a butter on hot bread. :P
So, I keep it running for 2-3 mins in the morning before I take it out anywhere. I have also observed that the engine shutting off is only when I take her out for a run before her so called demanding warmup session in the mornings.

          Cheers,

I always make sure to keep it running for 2 minutes before taking it out. once started, it is completely normal.
I can understand the Cold engine taking bit longer to start but the same happens at traffic signals also when the bike is hot.
And then the noise while starting.

I have been using shell fuel for most of the times till now..so i suppose this is not due to the fuel quality

The KTM service manual explicitly mentions that the bike is supposed to be started without any throttle inputs at all. So, may be if you start the bike every time by just thumbing the starter button, the issue will not crop up. At least on my bike, I start the bike that way, and I have never ever seen a starting issue. Also, keep in mind to bring up the side stand. Else, even if the bike is in gear and the clutch is pulled in, the starter will run but the engine will not start.
Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!

                Hello guys,

I am facing a peculiar problem of engine oil leaking from the oil cap (the cap which is opened to pour in the engine oil). I have got the ring inside it changed, still did not stop, again went to the svc and got cap changed, did not stop, used the cap of another Duke, still did not stop

The metal surface seems fine....any pointers to what could be a fix to this problem?

Even i was told the same thing multiple times at the time of test rides/delivery.Bike used to start without any throttle before the first service.
Last saturday, when the issue happened many times in front of the SVC guys, They told a little throttle is required during Cold and Hot start. I refused to accept the answer but thought of checking the same this week. Today morning the bike just didnt start without throttle.

you just made it clear for me that there is definitely some issue with the starter which needs to be fixed.

It sounds like a faulty ignition timing. A couple of xbhpians here had the issue where the engine refuses to start despite of several cranking cycles. A fuel injected motorcyle should come to life without any throttle input and that's certainly what FI is meant for. My bike never had any starting issue, whatever be the temperature outside.

If you worried about falling off the bike, you'd never get on.

Try using Three bond paste. apply thin line of paste to the cap & let it dry for a minute. then tighten it & it should fix it. :-)

                          Hello guys,
I have been using speed petrol from day one for my duke 390.But here in chennai very few petrol bunks have high octane petrol. Is it ok to use normal petrol mixed with high octane petrol incase of emergency? Or can I use normal petrol as standard? What will be the difference between high octane petrol and ordinary petrol? Thanks.

Almost all of us have been using normal petrol and never had any problems or found any difference between premium and normal fuel. However according to Bajaj/Ktm the bike is supposed to run fine with normal fuel and it did so during the initial testing phase but I do still wonder how its possible for an engine with such a high compression ratio that is similar to the big multi cylinder liter class mahines to run without pinging or detonation. There are ECU's that can avoid this to a great extent by adjusting the ratio according to the quality of the fuel used but such ecu's are frigging expensive and are found only in high end sbk's.
Its not good to mix fuels of different octane ratings but can be done under emergency and afterwards fill with any one type of fuel and just stick to it.

Speed does not have a higher octane rating unless you mean Speed 97. Normal Speed and normal petrol have the same octane rating (91), the difference being the additives that come added in Speed. So don't worry, get a reliable bunk and fill it with normal petrol. Although I have found that Speed 97 does increase the performance of bike.

How are you going to remove it when you next want to change the oil?

Just remove the cap as usual. Its a rubber based synth paste. I've used it for 5yrs now. no problems whatsoever. Its a gasket/o-ring sealant.
