Yeah, it's the Fuel cap flap. I had spent half a day looking for the source and turned out its the fuel cap flap. Shut it properly and the noise is gone.

Ankit firstly congratulations...Welcome to the 390 club 😊

Yes initially bike tends to heat up more. More so bike will heat up a lot when ridden in crawling city traffic jams.

As much as possible try to maintain 4500-5500 RPM and the bike will run much cooler.

I began experiencing loss of power . And it stopped going beyond 140-145kmph. As I had ridden it in extreme heat, I feared burnt gasket.
Fearing a burnt gasket, ( ... as it was also leaking oil from engine head), I gave it to SVC. The SVC didn't do much but to tighten the engine head screws. Took the test ride and found the problem still intact. Then they detected the problem to be associated with fuel tank and in fuel supply tubes. The entire fuel supply and the tank is now scheduled to be replaced u/w.

Hi all. A friend of mine is contemplating a purchase of the 390 and has a few queries based on long term ownership. So any owners here, who have completed 10k, 20k, 30k or more, please help out with the following queries.

                  1. Are there any plastic vibrations or issues with loose fitting etc which showed over time? Also, please enumerate on the quality of stickers & paint, parts like switches, electronics & electricals, headlamp, alloys, handguards, tank & tank cap (for any petrol leak smells) and engine related stuff like head gasket, bore packing etc which might have given way and started leaking. I've observed a lot of posts here which suggest head gasket failure so if it's happened, please mention how many times.

                  2. What is the type of petrol used most often (octane)?

                  3. How good is the highway cruisability at speeds between 100-150 km/h and fuel efficiency / tank range at the same? I have no idea of the tank capacity of the 390.

                  4. How many kms can it be ridden without shutting off? For eg. my 200NS is 30k kms old and still has the capability to do ~250-300 kms before it begins to feel like the oil needs to cool down for sometime.

                  5. Have there been any stalling issues which crept in after some serious miles on the odo? Or were there any in the initial days which were rectified? What was the reason(s) for the stalling issue?

                  6. What is the life of the chain-sprocket set?

                  7. What engine oil suits the engine character best? And how often must this oil be replaced?

                  8. Any issues with the ABS system?

                  9. Any weird problems from the engine like abnormal heating, tappet noises after warming up or feeling of loss-in-power of sorts?

                  10. Has anyone carried out any aftermarket modifications / add-ons on the bike? Potential owner is more of a tourer and particularly interested in a stock replacement air filter, RD / kiirus products like ECU / power commander, high performance coolant, adjustable levers, cree/zeus aux lamps, hand grips, hand guards, possibly an MRA windscreen and touring luggage bags (please give suggestions on this one. Budget: 3-4k). Please also suggest if any of the above-mentioned are unnecessary for touring needs. A big NO to exhausts.

                  11.
Have there been any major expenses / replacements? Any particular regrets as such? Or any suggestions / pointers to pay special attention to, for long term maintenance?
Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity.

                    Congratulations Ankit.
                    The heat of the bike is something that you will have to get adjusted to. The heat will get lesser after you put some miles on the odo, but, it will always be uncomfortable in city when riding bumper to bumper. Also keep in mind that when you ride, don't switch off the bike at red lights or in traffic jams;
Ask the service center guys to give you the manual nicely, if they don't go for their eyes.

Yes, there are some nuts that could get a bit loose over time, the tank cap flap if not stuck vibrates sometime. Paint and stickers are very good. Head gasket could be an issue, and could need replacement at around 10K kms.

                    2. What is the type of petrol used most often (octane)?

I have used normal petrol, Speed and have been using Speed97 for a month now.

                    3. How good is the highway cruisability at speeds between 100-150 km/h and fuel efficiency / tank range at the same? I have no idea of the tank capacity of the 390.

                    At 115kmph - normal petrol 30-33 kmpl, Speed97 36-40kmpl.
                    Above that speed, the mileage goes down - 125kmph - 25kmpl(normal), 135kmph - 22kmpl, >150kmph - less than 20kmpl.

                    4. How many kms can it be ridden without shutting off? For eg. my 200NS is 30k kms old and still has the capability to do ~250-300 kms before it begins to feel like the oil needs to cool down for sometime.

I have yet to find the time limit where it needs to be shut down. The max I have run it continuously is around 9 hrs, with breaks at petrol bunks only (around 10 mins max).

                    5. Have there been any stalling issues which crept in after some serious miles on the odo? Or were there any in the initial days which were rectified? What was the reason(s) for the stalling issue?

No stalling issue as such after a long ride. I had stalling issue while downshifting when I bought my bike, for which my ECU was replaced. In current batches, the idle rpm has been increased to stop this from happening.

                    6. What is the life of the chain-sprocket set?

Have done ~10K kms, so cant tell the life span, but the chain looks good for another 5K at least.

                    7. What engine oil suits the engine character best? And how often must this oil be replaced?

The best I guess is 300V 15W50. I have only used 7100 10W50, which works fine. Need to be changed every 5K kms (service interval)

                    8. Any issues with the ABS system?

                    None.

                    9. Any weird problems from the engine like abnormal heating, tappet noises after warming up or feeling of loss-in-power of sorts?

A couple of members have reported loss in power, see the previous posts; basically this was because of loose battery connections and faulty fuel pumps etc.

My answers in bold, the last two I cannot comment on as I haven't face the situation yet.

Actually there's a pump in the engine that circulates coolant around the engine; the hot coolant passes through the radiator, where it cools down and the radiator fan helps in blowing the relatively cold surrounding air onto the radiator. Both the pump and the radiator fan stops when switching off the bike, hence resulting in the increase of engine heat.

Gave bike for a regular wash and chain cleaning the other day, got the bike back, now the fuel guage is not working, side stand light is on, speedo not working and the bike is not starting. Any idea what could be the problem? Could it be that they have used high pressure water washing which resulted in screwing the censors, due to which bike is not starting? Help plz..

avoid inexperienced pressurised water wash on bike. its water trouble in your bike. hopefully water will dry out by itself or worse you will have to remove and inspect many relay points. I think its better not to force start as short circuit and some relay failure may come up. if you got ASS near by get a guy from there, he will faster in removing the relays and cleaning them.
