Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Friends..
I've wanted to reply here on 6.04.2015 itself but app was down with notice of upgrades..
Anyways.. Good news is I've Got duke 390..
Test ridden latest slipper clutch n older one at dealership as he had both bikes in stock..
But I've liked the older one over 2015 slipper clutch one.. So got that..
There was no price difference btw two..
Sofar all is good.. Changed engine oil myself at 350kms n bike feels much smoother.. Plans to change oil every 2000kms till 10k for smoother engine.( I do it with every bike I buy as it helps making me engine butterly smooth)
Now I'm looking for some good exaust as I've not liked the sound of stock bike Scilencer..
How's IXIL double barrel one or GPR Deeptone..!
Help me to buy one..
Also was searching some good tail tidy or short mudgard..!?
Thank you.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Went to the showroom again today, dealer had promised a RC390 TD, did a u-turn once i went there and asked me to come over tomorrow. Just wanted to check how different is the seating position from a Fazer. The dealer also told me that there will be a price hike probably of 10-12k by 15th of this month ... Current price OTR is around 234100 - accessories total = 226000 roughly
Now coming to the point of making the post as i had told the dealer was charging 7x for powerparts i asked him for a split-up as suggested by the member here and here is the splitup below
Tank Cap Sticker :- R.s2550
Tank Pad sticker :- 2040
Vehicle Cover :- 810
Hand Guard :- NA (7130 for the Duke 200)
Anti Puncture Liquid - Rs. 1500 (Snapdeal sells one for Rs.750 only however the question is , is it effective enough ??)
IND No. Plate - 750 ( what is this ??)
Key Chain - 750
Chain Lubricant - 160
Total :- 8564 /-
I have decided to buy the bike cover( if its KTM make and is orange color) and the chain lubricant and use the car jack technique to lubricate the chain... Any other parts mentioned above useful ?

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
They are not yet officially mandatory, found out what it is just now on google and it also told me cops in Chennai itself are charging a 100 bucks fine for people sporting a IND number plate.Originally posted by TheArcher84 View PostOT . is the ind number plate mandatory or what...jsp Honda in Chennai also charges for same
OT:- Since you are from chennai wanted to ask you the following, I intend to buy a Duke here in Bangalore with KA registration since i will be settling finally in about 1-2 years time in bangalore, but i will have a posting in Chennai mostly probably for atleast a year or two. How often do the Chennai police crackdown on non-state vehicles, how long can i drive without paying the Chennai Road tax if you have any idea.
Secondly is the traffic too much of a hindrance for a fast moving bike

The tank pad sticker might be useful to prevent scratches on the tank. But you can get decent ones outside for less than 500 bucks. And the joke is the entire replacement tank cover costs just 3000/- !
Again for anti-puncture liquid you can get it cheaper outside - although I am not sure of its effectiveness.
At just160 bucks I am guessing the chain lubricant being offered will be the bajaj one. Skip it and get a better one like Motul (I have also read good things about Tribocor).
A word of warning about using the car jack - the bike can slip off the jack as there is nothing preventing sideways motion. I would recommend get a good paddock stand. You should get one for around 2k. And the damages if the bike slips and falls in running condition will be much more than that.KTM Duke 390 | RE Interceptor 650

I would not suggest you to change the oil at every 2000 kms!!
It is not necessary actually. Its the synthetic oil that you get and it has better drain intervals. You will get smoother engine based on the run-in you do. As far as the run-in is good, oil change at every 5000 KM must be fine.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Is it possible for you to post a pic here with handle bar grips and protectors over the front fork?? ThanksOriginally posted by s1d View PostThe easiest way to identify the new model, would be to take a look at the handle bar grips (should be same as the RC series) and the extra plastic protectors over the front fork.
And then decode the VIN ,refer above link... 10th character should be 'F' for the 2015 model (again i believe that only models from late Jan 2015 started receiving updates)..Best bet is to check the above two items i mentioned.
IIRC the rear monoshock plastics were introduced in Sept 2014 itself..My D200 from Oct2014 has them along with the new radiator fan unit design.
And the indicators do not have any rubber beading, but the plastic housing is redesigned to cover a wee bit extra along the circumference of the indicator.

This is the latest model, it is similar for the D200 as well.
And remember the rest of the items, such as rear monoshock mud flaps and radiator fan shroud were implemented in the earlier revision i.e. Sept 2014 onwards... so you only need to look at the fork protectors and handle bar grips to identify the current version.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Hey guys, what's up?
I've just installed a set of Michelins Pilot Street 110/70 and 140/70 section on my bike.... They costed Rs. 9700 total (both together). After 2 weeks of running them, I can tell you what they stand for...
The size change is only in the rear tyre, which was 150/60 earlier. So today on my bike, the rear is less wider and more taller.
Weight wise, the Michelin rear tyre was slightly heavier than Metz.
Coming to the looks, this rear tyre is tall, and it does appear so. What else can I say? The common tread pattern of the Metz is not there... Instead there is the same tread pattern seen in some Supersports tyres of Michelin like 180/55.
(I confirm that you can fit even the supersports 600cc's tyre, sized 180/55 into your Duke 390, but it costs Rs. 12000/ each and I've no idea how it will affect performance or mileage)
In terms of grip, I'm seeing that the Michelins are actually good at straight line grip. Its almost equal to Metzelers here..
Corner grip is good, but I felt a lot more comfortable on the Metzelers. I just couldn't go aggro with the leans. My suggestion would be to lean heavily only on the good roads. You'll get good grip this way & feel more confident.
As it seems, Corner handling & mid corner corrections are clearly better on the Metzelers.
Don't get me wrong, Michelins are also very good at cornering. But you can't go about doing a corner-picnic, the way metzelers used to allow... I miss that carefree feeling now.
I feel the bike accelerates/ performs better after the tyre change. I'm unsure about the reason, but the difference is slight but noticeable.
Grip is all ok. But, the part I couldn't understand all this time was handling.... I just don't get that "leave steering" kind of handling anymore. You may leave the steering but if it picks a tailwind or something, it just goes on changing direction as if a weight is kept on one side of the bike.
And I took her to highway speed, and it was a front chattering kind of feeling when I steered. Don't get me wrong. It was manageable easily... It was just a "micro level" feeling I got.
I won't have a problem taking these tyres even to higher speeds, like 170 or so. But I won't steer even slightly above 140, as there is a feeling that something is not quite right...
(Xbhp advisory: I have only touched 172 kmph once, that's on the Buddhh International Circuit. I might do it again at same place, on April 26's trackday.
We don't promote overspeeding on public roads, its for your own safety. If you want to go fast, go to a racetrack. Stay safe & follow road rules & etiquette when on public road.)
These michelins don't feel so confident while leaning, but they can easily carry a good lean accelerating moderately if the corner is a relatively clean one. Definitely Metzelers seem so solidly planted even while leaning excessively... and I'm talking about even slightly older metzelers on slightly rough roads.
On the sandy inner path of my college, when I accelerate moderately in 1st gear, I do notice a wheelspin happening even at 3-4 krpm.
Metzelers were slightly more resistant to this, specially when they were new. But in the later days, even they were like this only. I love this feeling.
Conclusion:
My ratings (only for tyre performance) would be:
Michelins: 95.
Metzelers: 100.
I strongly recommend Michelins for saving money & getting a good balance of performance too, if you just want to commute or tour or off road or combine these. Occasional Trackday should also not bother you much. What remains to be seen is how long these tyres last....
My rear Metzeler was gone at 9000 kms. Front still had some life left. But I changed both anyways.
As it appears, Metzelers are still the best tyres for this bike when it comes to racing & overall performance... and Bajaj were so right in getting them.
Michelins are still great tyres, just that Metzelers are better in most aspects. I would've appreciated Michelins if I never ever rode Metz.
But now, we have a back to back comparison, before & after the tyre change... So, I can't be unfair here... isn't it?
I'm sure that a CBR 250 or Duke 200 or a Mojo 300 (!) owner would be more than satisfied with Michelins.
For Duke 390, if you're in a racing competition, where you need the bike to be immensely stable, specially if your Duke is modified for more power or lesser weight, then I strongly suggest you go the extra distance and get Metzelers only.
I do miss them. But life can't be an endless party, right? I'm a salaried college lecturer and there are limits to what I can earn & spend... So, you now get the reason why I got Michelins in the first place... don't you?

The reason for your "that feeling" in corners will be apparent when you see your chicken strip. The tyre is really good, just that 140/70 isnt made for duke, and on extreme leans you will be on the edge of tyre, while on 150/60 you still have about 1/2 to 1cm of chicken strip left in same lean. One thing where it will shine over metzelers is offroad capability and touring. My friend has one on his bike, and it still seems almost new after 1 year/7000kms.Originally posted by Samarth 619 View PostHey guys, what's up?

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
150/60 was not available in Michelins. I confirmed this with the Jaipur Distributor of Michelins. He had only this 140/70 and above that was the 180/55 which is meant mostly for serving the power bracket of 80-130 bhp.Originally posted by ynike99 View PostThe reason for your "that feeling" in corners will be apparent when you see your chicken strip. And that was Rs. 12000 which could've made the entire deal (12000+4700) as expensive as the Metz.
I think you're right about the size and suitability. I haven't kept a strict eye on the comfort level, but all I can say is that comfort must have increased for sure...
But what explains the sketchy steering at high speeds? Could we attribute that too, to the different size? I guess we can.
Because, otherwise these tyres are not bad by any means.Last edited by Samarth 619; 04-11-2015, 01:22 PM.---
