Re: KTM 390 - The original Hooligan - Ownership Thread
Got my 390 serviced today. It was good experience at Service section, KTM Banjara, Hyderabad.
Reached there early morning at around 9 am to avoid weekend rush.
Quickly the bike gets a wash, the most detailed wash I have ever seen
. As they were waiting for the oil filters to arrive I had to wait for the bike to be serviced. There isn't much to service though. All the checks were completed already and just the oil change and the chain lube was pending.
Motul 300v FS 15W50 -- Rs 860/L
Filled with 1.5 Ltr and rest is with me to use it as topup or next oil change.
Changed oil filter which cost Rs 64.63/- (When I changed the oil filter on my Yamaha R15 in 2008, it costed around Rs 580/- as it was imported from Malaysia)
Oil filter O-Ring is Rs 5/-
Chain spray and Lube -- Rs 75.
Total amount spent for first service is Rs 2149/-. If VAT excluded then It was Rs 1790/- only
The guy on left is Kishor, he is service engineer from Bajaj. Great guy and had fun time speaking with him regarding nagging customers and how the service guys and customers should interact. And interesting updates on upcoming bikes like RC390, P375 , 690 etc.
He explained quite a stuff about Bajaj's future prospects and what it takes for them to launch a bike and how much though process they have to go through.
Guy in the middle is Srikanth, who is head technician and works on the bikes. On the right is Khaja , he is a trainee I guess.
Was with them during the diagnostics test with them and could see that the radiator fan turns on when the bike coolant temperature hits 96 Deg and shuts off once it drops down to 90 Degs.
I am quite happy with the KTM's service as of now. And yes, Bike is lot smoother and gears shifts are less clunky.
Removed the saree gaurd and tire hugger few days back and it rained subsequently. Bike is LOT LESS dirtier now. The slush doesn't reach even till rear seat when speeds below 70kmph.
Also bought the CBR 250'r wind screen for Rs 357. Have to cut that black part out as whole of it is single piece.
PS: About 390. As per Kishor, Bajaj and KTM are working on launching the RC390 by December 2013 hopefully and at attractive price. They are also considering to see if current 390 can be easily converted to RC390 so as to keep existing naked 390
:P customers happy. New Pulsars would be coming with ABS (NS and P375). They were doing diagnostic test on my 390 where I saw ABS option for pulsar too.

Re: KTM 390 - The original Hooligan - Ownership Thread
After 90 days of waiting, finally received a mail followed by a call from KTM Indiranagar manager. He said that some 50 odd bikes are on their way to bangalore, and would be ready for delivery in a weeks time. Was asked to visit them and make the remaining payment etc.
Told him i can not receive the bike as i am traveling and would be back in Bangalore only on 22nd.
Obviously they will not hold a bike for me till 22nd, so i asked them to go ahead with the next one in Q. Was told that now onwards deliveries will be regular, and once i am back, i should be able to get one in a about weeks time. Hoping for the same.
Till them Booking No 38, please enjoy your duke 390.

Following this thread alot. So can somebody tell me where is the meat of power in the 390? I mean from what rpm to what rpm you can experience that mad rush that everybody is going gung ho about?
On the sidelines though it pains me to know from the posts above that bajaj is trying to make it easy to swap to the faired version.
Does it mean the seating position would be relaxed on the RC390? I would shed a tear on that.

RC 390 will not have relaxed seating as in 390.
My post mean that 390 can be adapted according to RC390 and not vice versa. This is just in thoughts or talks. Not finalised yet.
Btw....fixed the CBR's wind shield on to my 390. DIY already posted and is waiting for approval.
Will test tomorrow and update my observations.2007 - Hero Honda CBZ Xtreme

I am very happy with the CBR's setup. Rather in photos it looks great in flesh. It looks like as if it has been made for Duke.
I took the bike till 120 kmph which the bike did quiet easily while I was in crouching position. I can hide behind the wind shield till top of my helmet visor is aligned with the top end of Wind shield. Wind shield top area isn't firm (bit shaky, but thats how the wind shield is) as it is in bottom. I will be going ahead with installing supporting rods that connect to handle and the Wind shield and I am sure it can take higher speeds very easily.
It deflects the wind very well and as of now the wind hits at neck area.
I am still awaiting approval of my DIY thread

Pretty neat! Though visually, it seems a bit too tall. Are you planning to make a temp brace for it as well?Originally posted by riazmomin View PostHere you go.

Yep, it looks bit tall. But better functional than R15's or Fazers.Originally posted by satyenpoojary View PostPretty neat! Though visually, it seems a bit too tall. Are you planning to make a temp brace for it as well?
Brace is next step, probably will complete it by tomorrow. For speeds below 100 kmph braces wont be required as the current holding part of Duke's head light assembly is quite good. But to be on safer side, braces will will help a lot on higher speed.
