  • Re: KTM Duke 390 - Ownership Reviews and Experiences

Hi guys, today while going to the office i started my bike to let it idle for 1-2 mins like i usually do and the enginge died within 10secs. After that i tried to start it again but the bike is not starting.
Bike did not make any unusual sound, battery was recently changed, bike is taking self properly but not starting. Anyone have any ideas what could be the issue?

I guess the issue would be in air filter or sparkplug!

I am also thinking about the sparkplug.

Got my wheel balanced at Auto Service, Banashankari this weekend. The bike is so stable on both high speed straight runs and cornering. Can feel the difference from 85+kmph. The wheels took total of 65grms of weights.

          • Rev limiter...... not smooth ?

            Hi friends,

            I own a Duke 390 2015 (Feb 2015 - does not have slipper clutch).
It has been a happy 9.5K KM journey so far with my rocket roach

I have started to notice that when I hit the rev limiter in gears 1 or 2 the rev limiting action is of low frequency (like 3 times in a second).
As in the "engage - disengage" of throttle ( ) by the rev limiting action is slow enough for the bike to lunge and crouch, upsetting the balance.

I have not noticed it in higher gears, simply because I never take it to the limit in higher gears (too fast, too furious, too scary )

Is this normal with the duke or any other bike with a rev limiter?

Is there any way to correct this ? It seems that when bigger SBKs from Kawasaki, Suzuki etc. hit the rev limiter (courtesy Neutral gear full throttle vids on Youtube), the frequency of this "engage-disengage" is quite high (like 10 times in a second)

            Cheers !
Before - Waiting for 150 KMPH+ Indian bike

            After - DUKEd !

It's completely normal The reason why the frequency on the duke is low is because its a single cylinder.

BS3 KTM Duke 390 available now at Rs.1.50 lacs on-road..
KTM Duke 390 is undoubtedly the best performing motorcycle of its segment. The recent launch of the 2017 variant made many fans happy with that enhanced design while some were more attached to the older design. Those who were planning to buy the 2016 KTM 390 Duke and somehow missed it have the last ...

Yes, it's absolutely normal. And yes, the intrusion of the rev limiter is harsh, meaning suddenly you feel thrown back when the limiter kicks in. If you watch the YouTube videos just to make it clear for you, you will see the rev limiter kicks in even at the 6th cog when people are redlining it. Rev limiter is present and it cuts over-rev to protect the engine from going over and above its design parameters.

                  Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                  The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

My duke is Nov 2013 model and recently I'm noticing weird behaviour recently, whenever I'm accelerating it is shutting off for a sec and engine lights comes up. This is happening only while accelerating . Any clue what could be wrong ?

Shutting off meaning the engine goes dead when accelerating?

Facing a weird problem. Service guys still do not have a clue of the problem.
                            1. Bike shuts off after cold start idling after riding 100-200 m and then refuses to start.
                            2. If it starts or even if there was no problem #2, then it shuts off when ever bike is slowed or stopped. Then, it starts with some throttle input, may be with some pops.
                            3. Bike gets hot faster than before. Fan runs most of the time. Water pump overhauled recently due to coolant/oil mixing.
                            4. Speedo still shows 0. Stator coil and battery changed recently.

Any clue of what is happening?
