i was just going over the workshop manual of the 2017 d390.. it mentions the stock setting is 5.
the earlier ktm's the stock setting from factory is at 3. I haven't really paid attention to the suspension setting on recent ktm's in person and i doubt it can 'jump' up positions on its own !
did you ever replace the suspension ? maybe the replacements come with the setting at 5.. or maybe it was adjusted without your knowledge at the svc.

i've personally always felt that 3 was too soft .. on my d200, i had it set to 5 during the first service and then bumped it up to 6. I weigh north of 85kgs and rarely carry a pillion, at 6 the sag seems to be optimum.

Went to the svc last weekend and asked to change the setting to 3 from 5
but mechanic said 5 is the default for 390 and 3 is default for 200
      I checked in a 200 and new 390 it's 3 and 5.
Then changed mine to 4, they have a custom made c spanner to change the setting easily.

        Hmm.. he might be right.
But iirc the older 390's also had the default at 3, i might be wrong though. Can some pre 2017 390 (maybe from 2014/2015) owner confirm the default position of the mono? The workshop manual/owners manual of the old 390 that i've seen definitely mentions the default as 3.

The workshops usually weld a long rod to that c spanner which makes it easier since it gives more leverage. I din't even get the c spanner with my bike.. iirc it was being provided only from around 2015 (or late 2014 with the RC200/390s)

Guys, the front brake pulses even when ABS is turned off, it isn't as much like when ABS gets engaged but can feel it in the lever as well as the braking, it jerks and isn't as smooth like before. I have changed the master cylinder, installed new pads and bled the brakes, it still jerks ever so slightly. So I'm guessing it might be a bent brake disc?

can you try to swap out the entire front wheel assy (wheel+disc) from a different bike and check. this is easy way to rule out the rotor/rim.
if it still happens, then you might have to maybe clean the pistons to do a minor overhaul of the caliper (u get an overhaul kit with the piston/seals)

if not could be a warped/bent disc. i've had the disc replaced once on my d200 due to this. the lever used to pulse so bad that it was almost impossible to use the front brake.
check if you can find a lathe shop who can maybe resurface the rotor (taking a wee bit of material off).. it might help , if not that then replacement is the way to go.

The same suspenders are what's used in the 200 as well as the 390 and all the manuals state the vehicle has a default setting of 3 on the rear suspension.

Brake lever pulsing during braking only, means we have a minutely warped rotor. Consider doing a small check; if the bike stays steady, meaning the handlebar stays steady when you take your hands off the bars the bike should run straight with no wobbling on the steering column whatsoever. If you feel the front end wiggle mildly upon braking, a bent rotor is highly possible. Also make sure the caliper bolts are fastened accordingly. Keep your observations posted.

              Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
              The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

              THE END

The bike stays rock solid and steady when I'm not applying brakes. When I do, the pulsing starts and it feels just like when ABS gets engaged, the front end doesn't wobble or anything, it even stops properly only that it isn't smooth.

Have given to SVC for a check and a possible disc plate change.

It was indeed a warped disc plate. Replaced it with a new one and it's smooth as ever. Cost 2.1k overall.

Thanks for the input guys, appreciate it.

Also in the same online manual it's 29 psi for front but in the hard copy manual it's 25 psi and in sticker at swingarm it's 25 psi for front. There is some confusion!!!

The online manual is 2016 Asia specific manual for duke 390.

in my experience anything in the range of 25 to 29psi is fine.. depends on the terrain you ride in. if it bad road (pothole/lots of speed breakers) then keep it at 25~26 , if it's normal/touring keep it at 28psi.
the rear again a 29~32psi range, depending upon the load (your weight/pillion). I usually pump it up to 32 psi with my rear mono at position 6 considering my heavier build (and i do not face any chain noise or the tail almost hitting the mud guard at full load). Setting the suspension at 5 should be ok if you are a medium build person riding on normal to bad roads with the occasional pillion.

[emoji106] I'm keeping in 25/30 psi in all senario. Not gonna change.

Why I pointed this a tyre pressure mentioned in online manual is different from hard copy manual so I doubt the suspension setting mentioned in this online manual.

Is it true that Metzeler M5 Sportec front tyre for Duke 390 is not imported anymore? I bought from Amazon which is November 2015 manufactured. Seller claims it is not possible to find newer tyres in India as import was stopped in 2015 itself.
                            No
Anybody replaced their front tyre with Metzeler of late?

I have initiated refund request but if this indeed is the scene out there then I rather get it installed.

If it's the W rated metz that you are talking about, then probably yes they might not be importing it anymore. Ktm started providing the H rated metz sportec m5 from sometime in 2016.
check around in local shops/ktm dealer.

I got lazy with this and sent back the Amazon guy who came for the return pick up.

I will get this tyre installed. Else I will never get myself to do it. It is 'H' rated by the way.
