Re: KTM Duke 390 - Ownership Reviews and Experiences
Looking at customising a 2013 D390 like the following photos in regards to only the seat and the tank. Keeping costs minimal.
The idea is to make it more touring friendly (with a pillion+ luggage)
Any serious riders care to comment about the +ves and -ves etc. and the general doability of this project?
My basic questions are about the Electric pumps etc inside the tank and the fuel coolant tank that is on the right side. How do we manage all of that? Do you think a flat line seat would work well.
Ive been riding a 1986 Royal Enfield 350 for 11 year snow. am not used to technology!!

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Battery (Amaron 8Ah)
I suggest you ask the showroom guys about this. The bikes do undergo a PDI before they arrive at the showroom. Maybe you battery was defective to start with so they replaced it? Just an assumption.Originally posted by Highbeamer View PostHere are the pics:

The accessories shop along with KTM ASC have nylon cover cost Rs.800. It's nylon (orange colour) and easy to store in a carry case which comes along.Originally posted by Highbeamer View PostWhere can I find a good quality cover for the Duke 390. Etc, parking problems)

Thanks chip94, will give them a visit, find out the details and get that ugly looking bolt replaced.Originally posted by chip94 View PostI suggest you ask the showroom guys about this. Thanks VSKgood for sharing the details. However I'm looking for not very bright color(I know the color of nylon color is same as that of bike's frame). Maybe I'll get a custom made in black/grey color or keep looking.Originally posted by VSKgood View PostThe accessories shop along with KTM ASC have nylon cover cost Rs.800. Re: KTM Duke 390 - Battery (Amaron 8Ah)
1. The bikes come with the battery disconnected.. the svc guys remove the seat and connect the battery during pdi/delivery.Originally posted by Highbeamer View PostHere are the pics:
1. The mismatching bolts
2. The Amaron battery:
They probably misplaced one of the bolt and replaced it with another one lying in their workshop.
2. Surprising to see an amaron (thought the rating is correct 8Ah). It's almost impossible to get a 8Ah amaron/exide in the open market (5,7 and 9Ah are commonly available), so its probably oem. I have only seen exide's on the ktm's... i may be wrong though.. maybe they are using amaron too now as their oem battery supplier. And the date on the battery looks like it was from May.. so probably the bike came with it.
Did you get the battery warranty card ? It is normally provided with the new bike.
The other crooked possibility (if amaron is indeed not the oem) is that they might have done a battery swap for reasons best know to them.
Ask the dealer and also take a look at other ktm's at the svc to see if any have an amaron battery. If you are still not convinced, email bajaj customer asking if amaron is indeed the ktm's also come with amaron batteries.Last edited by s1d; 07-17-2016, 03:31 AM.

Approved and merged!
I guess a bigger tank is available as a powerpart from KTM. Seats can be made at a competent workshop.Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Battery (Amaron 8Ah)
i don't think its a fake Amaron. you should have received the battery warranty card/details entered in the owners manual.Originally posted by chip94 View PostIs that a genuine Amaron battery? Looks fake to me.
Your best bet would be to check with the dealer/ktm
So stop this online banter and get down to finding the facts from the dealer and let us know what you hear.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Ownership Reviews and Experiences
Went to the dealer and got the bolts replaced. When I asked about the battery he said both the batteries (Exide and Amaron) come in KTMs depending on the batch and availability. He then opened the pillion seat of a new D390 and found an Exide battery.Originally posted by s1d View Post1. Re: KTM Duke 390 - Ownership Reviews and Experiences
Regarding the battery issue, I would definitely get it checked through mail with KTM, or another dealer at the very least, you can't ever say anything with ethics of some dealers. As for orange assist, its only 800, so I would suggest taking it, I had an issue of battery being dead, that time I didn't have orange assist, which became quite a problem. Its always a better option to keep it as a contingency planOriginally posted by Highbeamer View PostWent to the dealer and got the bolts replaced. Re: KTM Duke 390 - Ownership Reviews and Experiences
It's definitely not a fake and as the dealer said ktm now probably uses both exide and amaron as their oem. Also note that these 8Ah batteries are difficult to find in the open market since they are 'oem' batteries. Anyway get confirmation from bajaj/ktm.Originally posted by Highbeamer View PostI said the same thing to him that the battery looks fake to me.

I have taken orange assist but never had the necessity to put it to use. Though i've a friend Ajay Vishwanath who did not have orange assist and i had to rush to help him on two different occasions (one a lost key and another instance of oil leak+bike wont start)
you never know when you might need it.. as for the the quality of service of orange assist, i guess it depends on location and time of the day.
800rs/year is a reasonable investment.. even though you might never use it. i would definitely recommend this if you frequently go on highway rides/tours. within the city, you will probably have some friend to help you out.

I've sent an email to both KTM and Amaron let's see what they have to say about the battery.Originally posted by s1d View PostIt's definitely not a fake and as the dealer said ktm now probably uses both exide and amaron as their oem. .
Can you please share the details of the oil leak+ bike won't start issue(maybe a link in the forum somewhere), would appreciate it.
Also, is there any thread dedicated to issues faced by owners of D390 or they're shared in ownership thread?

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Ownership Reviews and Experiences
What are your takes on oil leaking from the head? I mean I've heard that it happens but is it that common? I've seen every 390 leaking oil from those two rubber seals at the head. The SVC just applies sealant and closes the issue. Is there anything that can be done?
