Went to Kasturba Road KTM on Saturday for Valve Gasket Cover replacement. They said they will apply sealant and re-fix the same gasket. However, as per the advice I received from my fellow members here, I asked them to put a new seal. It looks and feels thinner than the one which came from factory. It also has a crease right in the middle. Apparently that is how the part is but I am not convinced.

Part cost is ~300 and labour ~250. I had asked them to do few small things like washing (pathetic washing quality), chain lubing, cleaning, etc. The final bill came to INR 910.

it's almost impossible to get a duplicate gasket.. so nothing to worry since you got it at the svc. that crease might be normal (from the gasket manufacturing process..)
and once you use the sealant along with a new seal, the leak would be arrested for good (unless they end doing a shoddy job)

I was having a blast on my bike around the track when suddenly, the low oil pressure warning came up on the console. On getting it checked, they said that oil was leaking through the valve head into the cylinder causing the oil to burn along with fuel. You could actually see the black smoke when the engine was revved. So I rode back to Bangalore and left the bike at Bannerghatta road KTM. They immediately said it was caused by the same issue and took 3 days to remove the engine head and replaced the sealant and gaskets (it's mentioned as head packing in the bill which came upto to 3.6k), now that I've received the bike, the smoke is still present but visibly reduced. They're now saying that the scratches on the bore is to blame and replacement part costs 15k. I'm not really sure who's to blame here. Is it the bad workmanship or bad quality parts?

How the hell Bore got scratched and when the smoke was still there why did you take the bike delivery when the problem was not solved 100%

The scratches that are on the bore is the piston to blame or the tech
No replacement for an engine Displacement

Well I'm not sure. What I do know is that a lot of KTMs which have done over 50k kms have this issue. But at 36k is a little bit early according to even the svc folks.

Can you post the photo of the bore, so that we can also ask the svc about the issue

Black smoke is when the bike is running too rich. White is when oil mixes with fuel.

                          Probably piston rings gone bad?
Issues with bore is one of the worst thing that can happen to an engine.

H RATED METZELERS FOR Rs 10K PER PAIR? (instead of Rs 16K)

One of my friends was saying that he came across a cheaper pair of Metzelers which is H rated unlike the standard W rated ones (max speed 210 vs 270 kmph), and is thus almost the price of Michelin street radials.

Has anyone encountered these? Any idea if they're good or even original Metz in the first place? I'm looking for a front tire only currently.

                            Reviews?

I encountered with same tyres in my city, dealer quoted me 6k for both metz and pirelli diablo rosso 2 for rear tyre with H rating. I think manufacturing is of different country and I was not sure of its originality ( I could be wrong).

My RC390 2016 came with H rated metzelers. I have done a track day on these tyres and the grip was excellent. No issues faced.
