    I guess, difference of opinion..

I say, during the initial 500KM, only ride on highways.. as you are free to ride as per your understanding. use all gears.. all throttel positions.. all RPMs under 7500 etc etc
no sudden braking.. no crawling on 1st gear on signal.. etc etc..

you have to love your bike enough, not to love it though

i rode through country roads, not winding, but single lane state highway on Kasaragod-Mangalore highway and it's been perfect. Could use all gears, engine keeps revving throughout. There's just enough traffic to keep overtaking. Done 600kms, so far..so good.

Hey guys, feeling a bit of sound like something is banging on the plastic panels when shifting gears, it's not always there, but at some times it just keeps happening, i tried stopping and inspecting but couldn't find anything loose or as such.
Then footpeg vibration seems to be very much present.

Apart from these issues the bike is running quite good.

Has anyone else faced problems with the plasticy banging noise or vibrations of plastic parts ?

        Cheers

In lower gears (1-2), there is a lot of vibration at the footpegs and in plastics at around 5-6k rpm. I feel uncomfortable so much so that I have not gone beyond 6k rpm on first and second gears. 3-4-5 and 6th are smooth and vibrations are much reduced.

Ok, so i take it it is there for some while not present with others.

Well, i just felt the footpeg vibes, no body panels or atleast tank panels were vibrating. Apart from that was that plastic thud sound i get at times.. still have to localize the source of the sound.

That's normal for such a huge single cylinder... Nothing out of place.. But you can expect reduction in vibrations after service
BTW the BTM showroom delivered my bike with 40+ tyre pressure... Checked it today aftef riding 170kms...hope no harm to the rubber!

I booked Duke 390 last Saturday and getting delivery this Saturday. I read through the User manual in my free time before getting the bike hoping it will help me to start up with the initial ownership experience. Booking experience was very pleasant at KTM showroom at Sembakkam, Chennai (Its just 3 months old). Showroom Manager took me around the service bay and showed the tools and equipments they are using for the servicing, Nice !!! He also introduced me to the lead Mechanic who works on the KTM 200 and 390. Also, Showroom Manager and sales person at the showroom was very kind and good while interacting with people either if the person is 75 year Grandfather of a probable buyer or 21 year college kid who came with questions about bike and finance options.
Hope I will get bike delivered on time without any issues and will post bike delivery experience and first ride soon. Fingers Crossed

                    down an up!

called Indira Nagar SVC to get the screws for mud flap and went there as they asked just to find there is no stock and to come back next week . what else to do? got back on my baby beast just to get in heavy traffic in ring road . while sitting there idly as my ham was getting fried, just turned back to find an auto with two gals on the back seat checking out the bike . how cool is that? for the first time gals checkin me out (well the bike, but still ) cos of this beautiful beast. Forgot everything and rode back happily .

Did 1000 Kms in 7 days . Will be taking it for 1st service by tomorrow. As of now, my only concern is the buzzing noise near the visor/console area at 3K RPM. Anyone found a solution yet? I notice that the bike is much smoother now and getting an average mileage of 24 - 26 Kmpl in city (reserve to reserve). Also I noticed that the exhaust sound is a little different now.

Btw, which oil do you guys recommend?

Plus when the bike is slowing down to almost standstill brake pad makes noise, but i've been told it should be ok with miles...somehow i'm very unhappy with the O-ring being loose and these minor niggles...my P220 never had this kind of problem after 30000 kms...anyways lets see...
Any update about the vibrations? After my O-ring was changed, I didn't have any more oil leaks. Dunno about the break pad noise :/

I have been testing the 390 for maximum fuel efficiency for the past couple of days and yesterday got a chance. It was a hartal/bandh here in kerala and cruising at a constant 75 kmph managed to extract this

But whenever I increase the speed to 80 kmph the console FE drops to 38 kmpl. I think 70-75 kmph in sixth gear is the sweet spot.

One of the earlier posts (forgive me, forgot the dude's name) he mentioned that some loosies inside the headlamp was causing the noise and it went away when he tightened it. Have a check...

Sorry to say may be your FE measurement efforts are in vain! The digital fuel meter shows the instantaneous efficiency rather than average... Say about last 800 mts or so
