        Re: Bajaj Discover 150S & 150F

Thanks MR ACE and Exattic, The service interval seems to be higher ( at 5K kms ) as compared to Japanese bikes ( Honda/Suzuki/Yamaha) Im wondering what is different of is the general perception of lower life of Baja products because of longer service intervals
BTW How is the build quality and finish of the product so far, Does it look reliable ?
Do speed breakers break speed or break backs !!!

                Re: Bajaj Discover 150S & 150F

                Hello fellow Discover'ians.
I'm Ashwin from Kerala and I ride a Discover 100 4G, I just went through you posts and thought I would share some of my experience.

Nothing beats a stock bike when it comes to reliability, so it is best to make sure that you keep your bike stock and dont go for any modifications, cause ultimately the people who designed the bike are a smarter lot that the idiots you see on the road sides.

The prescribed service interval for the bike is bullshit, the main reason why I never bothered to take my bike for periodic service at the SVC, I've done all the periodic maintenance rituals myself and only once sought the assistance of the SVC and that was because I didnt have the long tool used to disassemble the front fork. If the bike is new, I would suggest you change the oil and oil filter after an initial run in of ~50kms, after which you change it at ~500kms after redlining the bike at least once in gear while riding to ensure perfect piston ring sealing. After that regular 2000kms oil change would be fine, from my case I change the oil as soon as I feel the bike has become rough as I use the bike for long distance riding and the oil tends to wear out sooner because of it.

The stock air filter is the best as it ensures optimum performance, it is cheap and hence instead of cleaning the filter at 5000kms interval I would suggest you directly go ahead and replace it. The new filter would have to be oiled, the best means of doing it is by taking a thin plastic cover and pouring some 5~10ml of oil in it and squeezing it to ensure that it has evenly spread around, now put the new filter inside the cover and squeeze it a couple of times so that the oil is evenly applied on the filter material.

The chain guard might not look all that good, but it does a wonderful job of ensuring that the chain lasts long, so better keep it, and not to mention that the chain guard does actively reduce chain noise. As for the lubing part goes, I would recommend SAE120 grade oil.

So I guess its all good for now, if there are any more queries kindly let me know.

                Ride hard, ride safe.

Please do not remove the chain cover of your's. Had a Discover 135 v_1 with open chain, tough time to keep it in good shape.

When i had D135 v_1, till warranty i had to give service to bajaj service center. After warranty i used to take care of my self & found a good mechanic near my home to look after my bike.
