i don't understand what is the magic that happens at 'first service' ! that's become like a standard phrase.. go to them (any brand any svc) with a complaint and they say 'it will b ok after first service'. Next time someone is buying a bike why don't we try and say i'll pay you at the first service !
What did they conclude ? Faulty sensor? Faulty speedo unit?
ktm to me doesnt seem to be doing much of qc.. from what i have seen during this short period of my duke ownership. maybe a PROPER qc is done only on the export batches, and the local consumption batch is just herded on to the trucks like cattle.

Yes it is manufactured by Bajaj. I guess that is the major down side of buying this bike.

Guys I have been riding the RC 390 from almost a week now and yes even I am facing issues with starting whcih happens only at the traffic signals, I contacted the sevice guy and for this he told that just switch off and on the ingnition and start, this should work.

I have been trying the same and seems to be working so as we might be aware right now that the starting trouble happens mostly when we have ridden the vehichle for say 30 min and stop at a traffic signal and try to start that's when we face the issue so I am turning off the switch and then turning on and starting, this way I am not facing any starting issues what so ever.

Guys does anyone feel the gears are a bit hard to shift upwards, also I get a lot of vibration uptill i go to the 6th gear. Currently I am driving at speeds below 80 and occasional bursts upto 85. So i feel i am not rushing the engine but still some how I feel theere is too much vibration below 6th gear and it feels that I am reving the bike to hard specially during the 3rd and 4th gear.

Vibrations should be related more to RPM i believe. I think a heavy single will produce more vibrations at lower RPM, and would ease out at higher RPM (typically after 5K)....so if that is your case then seems normal to me. Maybe the RPM at which you operate in 3/4th gear is different from where you settle in 6th gear?
Also, now that I think of it, higher gears are lighter so likely have lower vibes at each RPM level compared to lower gears imo (not sure tho:P).

Yes you are right the vibrations are mostly at lower revs below 4-5K RPM,just now I got it checked with the tecnician and he said the same thing that there will be vibrations below 4-5K RPM, I guess i need to just get used to the vibrations below that limit.

The reason I mentioned 3 and 4th gear is because that will be the gear in the city ride mostly when I try to accelerate quickly during which the engine was giving the most vibes and doesn't give me a comfortable feeling.

i think ktm is the micromax in bike brands premium things at low prices but with some quality cons...

Why doesn't Bajaj test its bikes thoroughly before launching them. We are talking about Starter-issues within a week of delivery. Why Bajaj why????

People are paying 2.5lacs for your bikes, why not give the quality what Kawasaki gives?

Maybe because Kawi doesn't give you a 375cc mill for 2.5 odd.

There is a nice explanation given by @Balgi few pages. (Sorry if I am forgetting to mention due credits for other contributors) He recommended turning ignition off and on or waiting a few seconds for sensors to recalibrate. I tested this today and it worked wonders!! Stalled the bike a couple of times while riding, flipped the engine kill switch off and on and voila! bike starts effortlessly!

My problem hence stands resolved! Thanks to the valuable advise!

Bike has enough vibrations below 4k to rattle the teeth!! And don't shift into 5th or 6th gear in city. Bike will knock like crazy. I generally follow this rule for shifting : 1st till 15 kmph, 2nd till 25 kmph, 3rd till 40 kmph, 4th till 55-60 kmph.

The best part though is that vibes will die out at exponential rate. My RC vibrates far less at 600 kms on odo than it did at 100 kms.

The vibes are lower but engine will knock like hell. And a 375cc single's knocking is scary.

What you said the svc told you to do is the same as waiting four seconds and then hitting the starter.

You're riding it too slow. Use only the first four gears in traffic unless absolutely necessary (even at 5-6k rpm trust me its enough). Don't shift fifth gear unless you're at least above 80kmph or the bike'll feel underpowered and like a cement mixer be it new or run in.

The bike will be rough initially in all aspects. But post first service you'll notice a change. And post 4k kms on odo you'll see more change.

Basically what I'm saying is, you have to take time to understand the bike and also give time to the bike to understand you. Once both you and your bike are in sync, you'll be able to start and handle her better. Well at least that was my personal experience with the bike. Btw 6k+ on odo and my bike feels better than my unicorn which was so easy for me to ride in every way (not as smooth though but that is expected). Cheers

Still riding too slow. 1st till 20, 2nd till 30, so on and so forth. Increase your current speeds by 5kmph and no more rattle. Rc is mapped different than duke and needs slightly higher revs. But I'm sure you'll learn throttle control very soon.
