Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Another thing how to put a video in this? I'm not being able to upload from the gallery directly. I have to shoot it. And when I'm done it's saying server error. I did a video on that sound. Thought I will upload it.Originally posted by Balgi View Post

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Been trying this, and works like a charm! Thanks TeeJayy!Originally posted by TeeJayy View PostThis engine needs some time to warm up. Start the bike before u do ur daily morning routine (dusting the bike off, gearing up, etc.). Start riding once u see atleast one bar on the temperature gauge. Be very gentle with the throttle till u see at least 3 bars.
This should help resolve the jittery bike feeling you have been getting in the start.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
This might be out of the context, but can you please suggest how much fuel efficiency we can expect on highways were mostly we are driving at 85-90 KMPH, yesterday I had a ride till shivsamudra falls and almost got 31-32km/ltr, is this a good mileage or should we expect even better figures.Originally posted by Balgi View PostFirstly, identify the exact origin of the sound on an empty road and if possible post a video so we can help.
Secondly, the low fe is because your using the throttle in traffic. As much as possible in really slow bumper to bumper traffic try to use only the clutch. The bike has enough torque to easily manage a speed of 18-20kmph with just the torque in second gear.
Thirdly, don't baby the bike too much. The proper speed per gear for rc 390 is 20kmph at 1st, 30kmph on 2nd, 45kmph on 3rd, 60kmph on 4th. For rc200 the speed per gear for 1st to 3rd is same and 4th gear speed is 55kmph. Don't use 5th and 6th gear unless you know you have the roads for it. This applies post first service as well. If you follow this guide the vibrations should be down by as early as 2500kms and I guarantee an fe of 25-27kmpl minimum.
Also get the bike to svc asap for the sound. I think a screw from the fairing maybe loose. Is the sound constant or does it happen at a set rpm? Coz if its set rpm vibration then it is the tank cap.
Hope this helps

Yes 31-32kmpl is good. For best results hit 6th gear and ride at a constant 100kmph on the highway. You'll see an fe of upto 35kmpl. But 31-32kmpl is the accurate company advertised highway average for Rc390.

k, yes even i thought the efficiency could be a bit more because in my yesterdays trip I was not crossing 90 and also since it was a state highway there were many obstacle every now and then so definitely when we ride on a proper 4 lane like Bnglr-Hyd higway the figures can improve.Originally posted by Balgi View PostYes 31-32kmpl is good. I always wanted to know one thing, the service guy had told that the recommended speed for RC 390 before first service is 80kmph so I always try to maintain somewhere around 85-90 on highways with ocassional bursts uto 95, but yesterdays when I was hitting 95 for a few seconds and the engine felt so smooth
. What I would like to know is can we cross 100 before the first service on the RC or as recommended we should drive it around 80 for a better engine life.

I don't think it will be a problem unless and until you keep the RPM between 5K to 7.5 KOriginally posted by pandu View Postk, yes even i thought the efficiency could be a bit more because in my yesterdays trip I was not crossing 90 and also since it was a state highway there were many obstacle every now and then so definitely when we ride on a proper 4 lane like Bnglr-Hyd higway the figures can improve.

The engine will get a lot smoother with more running. You can safely take the bike upto 7000rpm without any issues. On 6th gear the bike will do 100kmph just a little over 6200rpm I think. So you decide.
And the service guys are playing it safe since if any problems arise then its their necks on the line.

hmmm k, thanks for the input, now I guess I can do higher speeds without worrying much...Originally posted by Balgi View PostThe engine will get a lot smoother with more running. Thanks
Lots of GPR exhausts I saw installed on dukes and also ixill exhausts. But ktm only authorises AKRAPOVIC as the official mod. There is an entire ADAC cup mod kit supplied by ktm outside India for the RC's. Check the kit out if you have the budget.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Hey.. yea I've seen the GPR, Ixil and Spark exhausts on a lot of Duke 390s.
The Akra exhaust available in India is being retailed for 55k, which is ridiculously expensive. I doubt I would go for one.
There are guys in Karol Bagh who claim that the IXIL and GPR which are used for the Dukes will fit the RC, but am a little skeptical as the exhaust housing is in the faring for the RC.

Yep and that's why I told you about the ADAC cup kit. It comes with modified belly fairing which will easily accommodate a slip on exhaust. And best part is that even though the kit is a bit expensive, it can be bought in pieces. So you can skip the other non essential parts.
