That is pretty surprising. I was seeing it as a positive development, that the bikes does not give a jerky power take off in the inital 1st/2nd gear and after that the power delivery is at par with dukes.... and post 100 it overtakes the dukes due to the fairing ...

How you say it, it seems the RC feels noticeably underpowered than dukes till say 5K RPM ....

Yes of course you are right but in your own way and I am right as well. See I like my bikes with a little........ Uh........ Oomph, a little rocket like launch off the bat. But you obviously like a smoother, more refined ride which to guy like me will make a bike seem underpowered.
Also I wouldn't say 5k rpm because I felt the Rc doesn't come into its own until the 100kmph mark. Which should be a little over 6k in 6th gear.

Yes, I knw what u are saying ... the rocket launch type rush!...
hmmm.... I was hoping RC to be mores subtle only till abt 4k RPM :P ... so that you can trot around easily in traffic...and down shift and dissapear in a gap with strong powerband at 4k-9k types:P (or at most 5K-9K so u can rev slightly more and be in the power band) ...lower power delivery than duke till 6K reads dissapointment to me :-/ ......lets see, still some time before I get mine ....

The best part about both duke and Rc was the hard engine breaking which allowed the rider to control his speed without the brakes but even that is about to go. Coz Rc is about to get slipper clutch. After that addition the Rc will be awesome on the track but damn near useless in the city. 😞

During run in the lower rev limit is set at 5000 rpm and the upper limit is set at 7500 rpm and you are instructed not to exceed 6000 rpm. After first service these limits are revised to Upper=7000 rpm and lower= 8000 rpm but you can choose to set it to post 2nd service standard setting which is lower=9000 rpm and upper=10000 rpm.
As far as 100 kmph is concerned bro, during run in it is strictly forbidden unless you are running it in using the short bursts method.

I am not sure if my bike's lower RPM limit is set upto 5k where it shows a red light because I have revved upto 6k and that red light has never popped up.
I am bit confused here that why it is not like this on my bike if what you are saying is true for all other RCs.

I have reached a max of 106kmph once and ofcource I am not revving the bike to that speed all the way in first gear.I am using all the 6 gears to reach speed of 100kmph and keeping rpm under check of 6K.I suppose that is what you mean by "short bursts method".

Well,if you are driving in clogged city roads you would get very less mileage for sure.

In my case ,I have driven on highways and as well as in city and thereby my bike has returned 240 kms in a tank full gas.

Also, as soon as the bike comes at halt, the radiator fan comes to life, producing humming sound. Is this sound standard on duke 390 as well?

This humming sound is pretty pleasant to my ears by the way....makes you feel like you are sitting on something extraordinary ,when in traffic others are trying to figure out what the hell that sound is and enquiring for the same.

Your bike is in the run in period so red light should come on at 5k rpm. Rev the bike to its upper rev limit of 7500 rpm and see, if the red light doesn't work even then, then your limiter might be faulty.
By short burst method I meant revving from zero to redline and then slowing down again to zero. Repeating this method will allow the piston rings to seat perfectly in the bore as well. Your method is the lower rpm method wherein you ride the bike slow at company specified rpm range till break in ends.

Is there a possibility that my mapped is not mapped to redline at 5k?

Also, I would refrain from red lighting my bike until the run-in period is over just to make sure bike's engine be in good state for many years to come.

Now there are multiple theories with respect to run in. Although the best and safest way would be to stick to manufacturer recommendation, many here (including me) believe that short bursts of acceleration must be given during run in. What that means is that although you stick to the prescribed RPM limits, once in a while, the entire rev range should be explored - gradually. Engines which have been treated this way have generally turned out to be more power and fuel efficient post run in without compromising a bit on the reliability aspect.

Still I am skeptical about it...I might go with traditional low rpm meathod to break run-in.

Talking about Motoman run-in or another version of motoman?
Adding to this : You HAVE to do this properly to get the results. Heard that few guys didn't follow the right procedure and messed up their engine. There are two Duke 390's that I'm aware of that has/is following this run-in.

Motoman is a totally different method of run-in - often misunderstood or partially implemented by many. It requires much more attention, monitoring and maintenance. You would find lots of articles on the web for more details.

Agreed. I'm thinking of using the Motoman run-in. Langford to Nandi hills and back to Langford to change the oil and filter! That's the plan. Rev up the range, and then use engine braking to slow down the bike back to standstill.
                            That would suffice, right?
