Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Thanks a lot for your response. I'll make sure I check everything you have mentioned. Visually there is almost no difference between the 2014 and 2015 model. Haven't ridden the 2015 model yet to comment on ride and handling. But yea I will post a few Pictures once I get the bike 24h from now. I have waited for 42 days but this 24h wait is killing me! :-POriginally posted by B7ACKTHORN View Post

I'm getting the 2015 model too but I got no clue of any difference, not even the service interval. They claim to have improved the wheels and Gear and Brake levers. However, when I went to make payment at a different branch near my place, the rep said the next lot which will be out in April will sport major changes in performance/quality and slight changes in Visuals. Since the current model has no major issues or ugly looks, I had no reason to wait till then considering the fact that I was pushed up the list so that I could get it for my B'day but unfortunately got delayed by 3 days.Originally posted by mustang28 View Post

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
BTW when they did service reset in my bike (first lot oct 14) it was showing 7500, so I think KTM initially wanted to go safe here and then increase the interval.Originally posted by mustang28 View PostThe only update I could 'see' is the Service interval being revised to 7500kms in the service book. Rest looks the same.
The switchgears feel a bit different from the TD bike (but it could be me!). There are still battery cover/tank cap vibes.
Will post some high res. pictures of rear suspension areas soon.

+1 to this, even mine was set for 7500km !Originally posted by archanmishra View PostBTW when they did service reset in my bike (first lot oct 14) it was showing 7500, so I think KTM initially wanted to go safe here and then increase the interval.
Anyone facing issues with the front disc pads making a squeaky noise ? It's really annoying and just ruins the fun for me. I have cleaned the disc pads, even took it to the service centre and used their pressure cleaner. It is works without any sound for maybe 10 mins of riding, and then it's back to being squeaky. The folks at KTM blames it on dust accumulation ( which I know is a huge factor) but this is a bit ridiculous.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
First day update.
Delivery experience was normal.Bike had no fuel in it so took it to petrol pump and had the customary first tankfull.
Having ridden the duke 200 and 390 for long distances, power delivery did not surprise me. What was different than the duke was the sound.I remember someone posting a clip with nice whistling sound, some 60/70% of it is present in my bike. And its cool.
Getting in terms with the riding position, will require one or two weeks to get used to it.
One more thing, bike grabs eyeballs, and attention of dogs too.
Will update this thread as experiences and kms pile up.Motorcycling heals, big time...

The whistling sound ? Like the spooling of a turbo ? I haven't heard of any RC having that noise, other than the in the video. The video in itself created quite a debate.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Good to get back the app on iOS great work done there!
Yes my service manual also says that the 2nd service is at 7500kms.
I have raised the issue earlier but could not post ye picture as some of you wanted it, the reviews and every where else they show/tell that the bike has a ground clearance of 180mm (higher then duke) I do not think so as I've scraped it where my 220 used to go past normally. So I checked the manual and guess what I found...
Can you guys too check the manual?

Yes me too have the squeaking sound in the front discs. Apparently that's a known issue in duke rc 390 world so adjust to live with itOriginally posted by Newbie101 View Post+1 to this, even mine was set for 7500km !

On the Dukes too ? But it isn't as bad as my bike.Originally posted by archanmishra View PostYes me too have the squeaking sound in the front discs. Apparently that's a known issue in duke rc 390 world so adjust to live with it

So manufacturing/quality issue. Can we get it replaced under warranty, or is that asking for too much ?

Sent from my MI 3W using xBhp Connect mobile appI own the d200 (3.5 months old, 5300km on odo now), and I faced the front brake squeal at around 2300km - this squeal occurrs after the brakes (pads/disc) have warmed up (i.e. after using it for a few times) and only when the bike was at slow speeds (around 10-25kmph), i.e. while coming to a stop/slowing down at speed brakers etc..Originally posted by Newbie101 View PostOn the Dukes too ? So manufacturing/quality issue. Can we get it replaced under warranty, or is that asking for too much ?
What was done:
1. First washed the caliper area with water jet, then disc pads were cleaned and scrubbed on sand paper
2. Was ok for 3 days, again the squeal started (it was high pitched and annoying)
3. They again pulled out the pads and concluded that the pads were 'glazed' - asked me to wait for 2 days so that they can contact their regional service head to replace them under warranty
4. So after two days I was informed that they will change the pads under warranty, and I visited the svc and got the pads changed (old pads were hardly worn down)
5. Everything was fine for a week.. and lo behold the squeal was back !
6. Again hopped to the svc, even without further 'investigation' or physical checks they immediately said that they would replace the disc rotor itself - again they had to contact the service head who immediately gave the go ahead. I had to wait for a week though since the rotor was not available.
7. So finally had the rotor replaced at around 2700km (not sure of the exact odo readings) -- Hence the issue was that the rotor was glazed
An alternative to having the rotor replaced is by having the rotor resurfaced or wet sanded down with a fine grit sand paper -for those out of warranty. The rotor of the D200 costs Rs.1433
The bike has now covered around 2500km since the rotor replacement and the squeal hasn't appeared since. But there is a very faint sound once in a while when moving the vehicle in the parking (like pushing it around)..i can live with that and will get it addressed at the upcoming second service.

The earlier rc390's manual mentions a service interval of 5000km (i.e. 1st@1000, 2nd@6000 , 3rd@11000km) while the current manual has pushed it up by 2500km making the interval 7500.

Not a wise idea to travel without the RC out of state. Within state should be ok.Originally posted by vernon24 View PostAnyone have any Idea/experience ?
For example: In Hyderabad, you can check the status of the registration number online but the RC takes a week to arrive at your home address. So one can ride around with the TR/print out from the website till you get the RC.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
The Wheels apparently were improved from the first batch of RC (after the duke issue), dont think they made any new changes to that now. The gear/brake levers have been improved from the first lot and the PDI list now includes an extra point of of quality checking them (after the first lot complained of lever stooping down).Originally posted by thrustrev View PostI'm getting the 2015 model too but I got no clue of any difference, not even the service interval. Im getting my teen monster very soon and even though I am quite happy with how the bike is, especially after the updates on the RC (after duke's issues) and pretty much good user reviews; I can't help but think about what "MAJOR" changes in quality/performance will happen? And changes in Visuals too?? Were you able to get any details?, can you try get them now? Basically If there are major performance upgrades I would want them to be replicated in the older models too :P (I cant wait till april batch now, but will be happy to know that the changes can flow through to older models!) ...
for eg motorids gusses how much the old duke to new duke transformaation might cost - http://www.motoroids.com/ktm/ktm-duke-390-ktm/
Cheers.

Bro in my view if you don't have an RC book it indeed might be a problem ... while the registration number confirms the bike is registered ...the RC confirms that YOU own the bike and its not stolen :P Not sure how much a tax reciept will help or if it has your name etc. Also, most cops will start stressing on "RC book dikha, RC kaha hai!!" wherein your explanation might not work.Originally posted by vernon24 View PostIve got my permanent number but they told me the rc book will take approx. 45 days
On a side note, the RC book arrives in ike 3 days here in chennai!...or max 10 days otherwwise I believe!. Maybe you can push on that front too.
If you really want to go, maybe after the papers you have and depending on your cop-convincing skills, you sould get away with about 1000rs total bribe to the cops during the trip (im just saying :P ) .... I don't think you will face a major problem like cops impounding our bike (clearly the bike is new and the RC not arriving is understandable, plus you will have the showroom payment reciept) .Last edited by Shantnu; 02-05-2015, 10:00 AM.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Nothing but bluffing. This happens everywhere, sales reps just say things to keep you interested and to make you or your friends come back. Do not fall for such words in excitement.Originally posted by thrustrev View PostI'm getting the 2015 model too but I got no clue of any difference, not even the service interval.
