My bike's done 22.5k km. Just a few days back i got the whole clutch basket changed (only the friction plates and springs needed to be changed but they didn't have springs in stock) for Rs 10k including service. I am now wondering if it's worth spending more time & mon eyspending on this bike (the airbox is cracking again) instead of upgrading to a more reliable bike. In terms of handling and performance this bike has no match anything below 10lac but it's just a shame with the parts and quality issues. Well one can argue that the parts are cheap but what does it matter if the mechanics are incompetent. Getting any engine work would be a throw of the dice and chances are you would be left with a treatment worse than the ailment as happened with my R15 rebuild

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
I did show the bike to the SVC over the weekend. The mechanic told me pretty much the same, he suggested cleaning the throttle body and changing the idle stepper motor if necessary. He called me the next day and said he'd cleaned the throttle body but didn't change the idle motor since it was working fine. So I reach the workshop and take the bike for a test ride and found the issue wasn't fixed at all. I should also note that the engine starts normally during a cold start, it's only when it gets warm say over 4 bars that the problem appears. Also, it does seem to get worse by the time the engine reaches full operating temp. And once hot the doesn't start in the first few attempts. Interestingly, I am not able to control the stall when stuck in traffic using the throttle (i am a skilled rider), say by keeping the throttle part open, only rapid blipping seems to save it from stalling for a while. Anyway, they got an idle stepper motor from a neighboring workshop but tell me that it doesn't fit my 2016 rc390. And today when i went to check with the mechanic he tells me that there's something wrong with some sensor and the whole throttle body needs to be replaced. At this point i got more money than time, so i was ready to get it changed but they don't have it in stock and the waiting time would be 10 days. So for the second time i rode my bike home through crazy traffic with the bike constantly shutting off. Problem is this my only means of commute and besides i need to ride a bike daily otherwise i get withdrawal symptoms!Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View Post

Though they can be serviced individually i.e. removed, unfortunately they won't be available as a separate spare since the entire console is a unit. If you can source a conked off speedo at your nearest junkyard, I'd suggest you start a search on that and salvage the upper bezelle and get it installed at a nearby shop who deals specifically with speedo reconditioning work.
For ABS light not going off. Take it your nearest SVC, check for error codes if any, and then observe if the ABS light stays on. If it does, check your wheel sensors. Do keep your observations posted.

Thanks guys. I'm sure there will be a lot available at scrap considering the number of accidents. Hopefully I'll be able to find a useable one. Will keep you updatedOriginally posted by s1d View Postupdate from my end:
good news: i have reliable information from a friend that the top part of the console housing can be replaced.
bad news: it isn't sold as a spare, you have to take it off another console.. maybe one that isn't working from scrap at a svc.
take the entire console unit out
unscrew the screws from the bottom of the console and split the console i.e. carefully remove the top part (so you will end up with the bottom part i.e. the electronics+lcd and the top part i.e. plastic screen + rubber top), and put it back with the replacement and maybe use a very thin bead of silicone sealant to seal it and put the screws back in at the rear.
sorry no pictures since it wasn't me who did this, but a friend who had it done and he told me that it's an easy repair.. the hard part being getting a scrap console.tђє รเlєภt รt๏г๓

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Pretty low I'd say. You can fetch 18 to 26 kmpl easily at that RPM. How much has your bike clocked to date?Originally posted by Rahul.V. View PostJust a random question guys,
What's your fuel economy in ONLY city riding?
I'm getting 14-15kmpl considering I keep the rpm level below 6000.
Thanks

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

ThanksMany factors depend on low fuel mileage, it can be as simple as clogged air filter, gummed up throttle body, bad fuel quality and what not. I'd suggest you to do tune up, beginning with a clean air filter, if possible a throttle body clean could be warranted and for a change try changing your fueling station and see how it fares. Do keep your observations posted.Originally posted by Rahul.V. View PostI know..
I've clocked 11k till now.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Guys, i have seen several issues with the new Duke 390 (granted many of them are TFT console related) posted on this forum, but strangely not many complaining about the 2017 RC390!? Is it because there are far fewer RC being sold compared to Duke or is it that Bajaj has managed to make the RC more trouble free?
(BTW update on my throttle body sensor/bike shutting down issue: i am still waiting for the new part to arrive but amid all the frustration i noticed that the throttle body cleaning has made the bike accelerate and run better)Last edited by incipient; 08-31-2018, 12:35 AM.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
RC do has its own set of niggles. Strangely nothing as major as duke. 2017 RC is just an improvement(much more refined)over the previous model and no major design change has been done. Whereas duke is completely new generation and has lots of design changes barring the engine(apart from minor tweaks). Also, whenever I visit the SVC I always see more RC’s lined up for deliveries though I do not have the exact sales figure but I don’t think there will be any significant number difference.Originally posted by incipient View PostGuys, i have seen several issues with the new Duke 390 (granted many of them are TFT console related) posted on this forum, but strangely not many complaining about the 2017 RC390!? Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Are you doing multiple short rides? RC is allergic to it. My bike once returned 16 kmpl owing to multiple short rides but was back to “healthy” 25 kmpl as I stopped using it for rides less than 4-5 kms.Originally posted by Rahul.V. View PostJust a random question guys,

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Approximately 1700 +- 100 rupees. If I'm not mistaken, the indicator and the mirror stalk are two separate pieces. If you can salvage your indicators from your old mirror stalk, you can save a few hundred bucks.Originally posted by SubhashGowda07 View PostMet with an accident and mirrors wrecked.. Any idea how much does it costs and does the indicators for the front comes with mirrors?

cleaned the throttle body and replaced everything which didn't work
the issue got resolved by changing the spark plug cap
try changing it and see if it works out

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
And today this happened. Not sure what went bust this time, perhaps some seal in the gear shift shaft? Tried re filling oil but all of it leaked out within a minute. Now i can't even ride to the service station.
Looks like the honeymoon (first 20k km) is over and it's starting to fall apart. FYI, mine is a well maintained and ridden bike... prospective buyers are warned!
----consecutive posts auto-merged-----
FYI, i got my clutch basket replaced recently. Could it be that the a*holes at the SVC reused some seal that should have been replaced during the service?Last edited by incipient; 09-02-2018, 09:20 PM.
