That colour temperature will strain your eyes during night journey. From what I can guess, they're above 5000K temperature colour. Daylight(4300K) and below are legal on Indian roads if I'm not wrong.

BTW, congrats on your mod, it looks pretty good. Do you happen to have more pics straight from the rear of your GS?

      Cheers,

      Hi ,
Please find below pics. The bike is 2.5 year old now but still as vibrant as young and running 28k. Mileage 45 kmpl and top speed 126 kmph.
In my previous post had shared LED headlamp installation, pilot bulbs and fog lamps. Now I have replaced fog lamps with another lamp as you can see in the pic there are two LED lamps fitted. Its a bunch of 14 led in each lamp and provide ample of light on highway. It costs me 1400 INR (+100 fiting).
Now my journey is so easy and comfortable during nights. I have adjusted my main LED headlamp for the long distance focus and these add-on lamps for short distance. You wont believe this covers entire road and visibility is so clear-bright. You get easily noticed by big vehicles and provide you good space to overtake. GS battery is powerful enough to provide even voltage supply to both these lights. Check my previous posts for more details. So far I have not felt any battery issues. I do regular check up during every servicing. I will keep more watch on it.

      Thanks

The color temperature advertised was around 6000K. Its just white on the road. However, i do not feel strain because of the color temperature. I'm not sure if it is the white light that causes eye strain. But one thing i have experienced is that the light intensity causes problems. Since there is a lot of light in front of me, the high beams of vehicles in the opposite direction are more disturbing than while in a stock setup. Even low beams look a bit brighter than usual!
So, within the city, under improper lighting and opposing high beams, it gives me eye strain. On the highway (poorly lit), however things work out in my favor and a considerable stretch is lit up, much better than stock. But yes, for proper effect, a projected light setup, something like RaviRaj123 has used would work best.

Regarding being street legal, i went through the Central Motor Vehicles Rules book available as pdf and there was no mention regarding Yellow/white lighting for headlight. (check out Sl. no 105, 106..). The requirement was that "lights should not dazzle at a certain distance and a certain height", but "should not dazzle" is a bit generic and cops can find reasons just to book someone. Relative to stock 35W, the LED's glare is actually lesser! The 35W stock headlight without flicker might actually be quite sufficient for regular usage. It is all in the head that makes one want a BRIGHT headlight!
I'm planning to do a small experiment and give my headlight a slight tint @ lowbeam to reduce that color temperature, maybe even its intensity! Rains would definitely make my headlight useless!

Those 14 LED lamps, don't they consume 55W each?? Last time i think u'd mentioned u didn't rewind coil or change RR. U sure the battery is healthy with such high load (2X55W+35W)? Plus, what was wrong with the earlier fog lamps?

To give you a clear picture, consider i'm riding at 55-60 km/h in 6th gear (RPM is at 4000-4500) and i need to brake. I slow down to lets say 25 km/h (the RPM stays at 4000-4500) and apply clutch to shift down (RPM stays at 4000-4500). And all this happens only when fuel levels are down. When I get it filled, there is no such problem.
I am reading this thread after a lonnng time so kindly excuse my late reply.
I had the same problem of the bike revs not coming down below 4000RPM during riding. The culprit was the choke cable. The SVC replaced the choke cable and the problem got resolved.

I have been facing delays in gear shifts for past few thousand KM. The reason being worn out gear shifter/connecting rods.

Holes changed shape from round to ovel causing delay while shifting

The rod which connects the above two parts is also worn out but a DIY cannot be done right now. Waiting for the part to arrive.

I had to do the welding and drilling work because of unavailability of spares in all major Service centers in Chennai.

              ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Also the Lock set seems to be worn-out. Bike would switch off when hitting a bump and have to shake the key to start it again. Pretty scary at times.

The two bolts holding the lock set becomes loose often causing issues while locking the bike.

              Solution:

              Removed the entire headlight assembly.
              Removed the Speedo.
Removed the lock assembly and dipped it in a vessel of turpentine (you can use any solvent like kerosene or thinner) for 20 minutes. All the dust particles inside the lock assembly were now mixed with the solvent
Dried the lock assembly and used fresh oil to lubricate it.
Used very little anabond to the two bolts to tighten the lock assembly
Refit the speedo and headlight assembly.

So far the above method has helped me and the bike has not switched off when in motion. If it happens again, I have no options but to spend Rs.1200 on new lock assembly.

Sorry guys as if I may be a bit late to ask this, but really need expert shed on this thing as I am very new to electrical tweaking. As shown in one of the steps of "Stator Coil winding removal " above in full DC conversion steps, we desoldered a black wire from stator coil.

But it's not clear to me that should I solder it back after rewinding stator coil? or should I just leave it desoldered? Is it of no use after changing the RR? Please help, going to do it myself next week.

I found coasting down a hill at 90 kmph in neutral and engine switched off a bit too dangerous. I remembered your initial query here instantly .

It's been quite long since we have seen some new interesting discussions over GS 150R. I wanna request all experts to share their new ideas and changes / maintenance tips used by them for GS150R to keep the bike's engine as smoothest, fuel efficient and maintaining bike's paint shine like that of one standing in showroom .

As the thread activity has paced down over time I guess most of our fellow GSpians switched to some other bike... If possible please vote and let us know how many are still using GS 150R with same passion and are ready to remain active on XBHP

                                Hello Kamlesh,

I believe you just had a wonderful idea! I thought I'd just share some thoughts regarding GS here in Mexico, perhaps you can relate to the experience!

                                * I have felt tempted to switch to Gixxer, as some here may recall, but GS is such a good, trusty bike, I do not think I should spend more $$ just to have a newer, more nimble bike. Yes, GS may have its flaws (heavy weight 150cc champion, a bit of a handful in certain traffic situations, not that stable in slippery conditions, poor lighting, etc.) but it has been rightly compared to a volvo by some users, and also it has been called "the chill pill..." It really is that good and reliable. And those flaws have a cure. I feel sorry about riders (not only GS riders) who switch to other bikes with the "grass is greener on the other side" type of philosophy, not giving their motorcycles a chance!

                                * Related to the previous point, I do not think I should switch to a motorcycle that will attract criminals more than GS. Here, there are about 2 Gixxers per every 10 FZ16s now, and that is not good news. Gixxer may become a target to criminals soon. GS is still an unusual bike to see on the road, and I am just ok with that; no one really pays attention to it. There are days I do not even see one GS other than my own bike, and I see a lot of bikes on the road every day. By the way, I spotted a yellow wasp Special Edition GS about 2 months ago and it looked like a scaled down GS500, but not much smaller! Really pleasant to look at.

Other bikes including Apaches and P180s, etc. will walk from me 90% of the time, just to see me pass by them after a while like a sinister, black ghost doing 120 kph in 6th gear with barely any engine stress. Yeah, as I have mentioned it before, even cruisers with gentle riders will see me fly past them, probably thinking I am riding a 250, but I am clearly not. BTW, I am planning a trip on GS to beautiful Queretaro City very soon (300 Km there and back); I will make sure to share the experience with you guys!

                                * I have been doing rather strict maintenance chores on my black GS, which includes using Armor All on different plastic/rubber parts of the bike, car polish and wax, normal adjusting of parts, and plenty of lubbing on different parts like cables and moveable components using WD40, chain lube and other products. I am expecting to reach at least 20k Km without much investing other than regular maintenance money. My black GS just reached 17,500 Km with no parts changed other than the battery (I believe it was a faulty one), full set of wheel bearings, and a turn signal light. By the way, once I went for NGK CR9EIX 13,000 Km ago I never looked back, and the same thing happened with fully synthetic 10w40 Lucas oil, I just love how the engine feels with it.

                                * I have been planning certain mods on my GS, including a softer, 110 section rear tyre, 20w-LED headlight (which will run ok on GS once I am tired of my current xenon type, 35w AC halogen bulb), a higher capacity battery to go with the extra electrical load and probably some testing with the front fork oil, perhaps a thicker fluid to see how the front performs. After upjetting the carb and modifying the air filter, my GS can handle a 55 Kg pillion (my wife) without much trouble, the engine just does not feel stressed nor the bike feels heavy with the extra weight anymore. And the engine's sound itself is deeper and more pleasant to hear.

                                * An interesting review on the newer Honda Unicorn CB 160 (I think that's the name) came out recently, stating the bike performs great at traffic lights, and explaining how good it is on the highway, and I do not doubt it, so I may give it a chance once it is available here. I will not buy the idea of a CB190, but a Honda 160 that can beat a Gixxer sounds interesting. But if you ask me, I would really like to see an updated version of GS, perhaps with the Gixxer's engine on it and a rear disc, better front feel, probably reduced weight and slightly lower seat + the nifty 6-speed gearbox we love. In the meantime, I am keeping my Suzuki to save myself some dough and hassle. Me and my father appear on the picture, he just enjoys helping me out with the car and GS. Cheers!
