  • Re: Suzuki GS150R

I just plonked a set of refurbished rear shock absorber set in hyderabad (telengana) for Rs 1200 with a 6 months warranty for any issues , my crappy dealer quoted Rs 1850 incl all taxes for just one unit (not pair), i traded my old busted nearly dead shocker set and got the refurbished set , the ride is stiffer i noticed but i will try and set it to slightly soft .

a week back i did a 500 km round trip and i must say the bike faired pretty well , average cruze speed was 70, i am yet to switch to fully synth oil,
plus i need to plonk on a new set of tyres , can anyone gimme make and model details for best tyre for front and back ,

another pesky thing is the TIC TIC tappet sound , does any one know how to get rid of it ? do i have to get a new set of tappit installed ,my bikes done 67,000 on odo , I love my bike and will keep it for as long as i can ,

suggestions / recommendations please for tyres and tappit issue . thanks!

      Somebody please help! ☺

My dad currently owns a Hero Honda Glamour, its 5 year old
And the bike is a rattle snake, even the ct100 his first bike which he used for 6 years was in way better condition when sold.

Hero Glamour is one of the most selling 2 wheeler, always in the top 10 lists, 5,6,7th position even overtaking Honda shine.

Trust me Glamour is technically shit.

125cc bike weighs 129kg, first gear is shorter than a KTM D200, not much difference between 3rd and 4th gear, its 5 years a ride sometimes, still i check for an upshift. But sadly NO!

      Coming to the GS150R,
I am Suzuki fan, Bought a Swish for Mom, clocked 16,000kms in 12 months, I JUST LOVE IT, its a marvel I would say
Am actually palnning to get a GS150R one for my Dad, head that SUZUKI stoped it.

Saw wont mind getting a used one.
After riding the 125cc pocket rocket Swish, and the stability it has for a Scooter, my Dad is also interested in a Suzuki, Gixxer is amazing, but Pillion comfort it not there, not a con, as its a l naked sport bike 😁

If Suzuki stoped GS150R, i would say its the right time Suzuki should bring it back to the market, as Gixxer has spread the Suzuki name in a Good way.

GS150R is the best 150cc commuter bike ever launched till date, and a great, comfy, stable mile muncher,

The bike launched at 2007 has features even the bikes recently launched doesn't have,
      The gear shift indicator, GEAR POSITION INDICATOR 👌 on a 2007 bike, 6 gears,still didn't click,.. 😞

So my question is how is the availability of Spare Parts ?????

Are you guys happy with the SVC Response for GS150R?

      ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Forgot mention, the console of GS150R is absolutely brilliaint , GSXR inspired ones 👌👌👌

I bought 2 gs150rs and I Am using both one clocked 65000 and one clocked 42000,svc in hyderabad is good, parts quality is excellent, both there bikes I bought sec hand, i did a recent 500 kms trip and Am very happy with this bike. Few cons despite being so very good in every other aspect there is just No resale value but I dont plan to sell it, power bands are linear so No sudden power rush, rear brake should have been much better but does its job OK, a disk setup in rear will make a huge difference. Parts are slightly expensive but worth every penny.svc are very good here in hyderabad they took care of every bit well.

Hi ! Common spares (air filter, clutch cable, oil filter) and those frequently replaced (spark plugs, brake pads/shoes) are available over the counter at SVCs only. Something like brake pedal or the LHS footpeg assembly may not be available and usually the stores will ask you if they can order it for you. Some SVCs will not sell even oil filters or bluntly say "they don't sell spares" though their name board will say "Authorized sales, spares and service".

It is a bit hard to find the spares in local two-wheeler spare shops - they say "this aint a moving model" and thats true. Add to the insult, GS is now discontinued though exports continue, I think.

GS is a gem of a bike and enjoys (ed) the hype here in the Ownership Thread. It has its own share of problems like early leaking rear shock absorbers, being too heavy (just look at the thickness of metal they have put in the fork "T" and engine!), early giving away of front wheel bearings, hard&notchy gearbox compared to the Hondas, corrosion, etc (as reported by various xbhpians).

Used vehicles, if not maintained well by the person selling; might burn your pocket initially to restore it. But due to the low resale value, a used GS that has very less kms on the odometer is a steal.

IMHO, get a currently popular (selling in good numbers and good reputation in xBhp) model for your dad. Gixxer has surpassed GS in many many ways and it would be my pick from Suzuki. Gixxer has everything (except the 6th gear) that GS has plus it is more practical and easier to live with than GS. Suzuki has recently started exporting made-in-India Gixxer to Japan!

He is turning 50 this year, saw gixxer doesn't suit him i think,my mom won't be happy on Gixxers pillion seat.
And gixxer is quite stiff, no where near as comfy as GS.

              And how should I pay for a 2013 GS150R..?

              Here in kerala..
GS150R is not much seen on olx.

I think the people who own it are really happy with the bike, not planning to sell .

                  Hi Octane,

For me SABOO SUZUKI quoted around 1250 INR each for new rear shock absorber of GS 150R-please check the price on spare parts properly and don't get any refurbished parts for your bike-its all about enjoying GS ride and your safety. I would recommend you to contact SABOO SUZUKI Indira Park / Raniganj / Secunderabad for best quality service and authentic original spares at nominal pricing.

Also for tyres- get the recommended ones from service center or MRF authorized dealers. Any modification / change in specs may lead to ruin the GS ride quality and mileage moreover it may not be as safe as tried and tested stock tyre by MRF.

TIC-TIC sound while in stand by mode after a short / long ride is normal for all 4 stroke engines.
But if you feel some unusual sound while riding your bike please reach our to Saboo SVC, they will inspect and let you know if it's really a problem or just a normal sound from GS engine.

True that, also the slightly rearset footpegs might not be his preference. Take your time and get the best one for him ! My lady pillions have never complained about the seat except for the height (true for most makes like Unicorn).

GS would be very heavy for your father. Gixxer is not a practical bike when you consider riding with a pillion.

Why don't you consider the Suzuki Sling shot. Its lightweight. Its great in comfort and comes with 5 gear with a gear indicator. 2 of my friends have them and has run 40k+ and 25k+ respectively. Only issue they have faced is rusting of parts.

Get him the new hero achiever 2016. Best bang for the bucks. Best suited 150cc for his age ane lite weight too compared to gs and many cool features like AHO and i3s tech. Quite sober mature and fuss free bike. Tried and tested honda engine.
I too own gs150r and very happy with it. Its just my humble opinion.

Calculating from 63kmph@4500rpm, 70kmph@5000rpm, 84kmph@6000rpm (Peak torque rpm) and 119kmph@8500rpm (Peak power rpm) you should be at 7142.86rpm@100kmph .

Btw japanese bikes are known to have ~4%+ reading on odo. I kind of validated this a few times with a running app. So when your odo shows 100kmph you would actually be @96kmph.
