  • Mileage Update

    Hey Guys,

Checked the mileage of my GSR from Reserve to Reserve. Filled 100 Rs. Petrol [2.25L] twice and got a Mileage of 50 on both the occasions. It was total City Riding in ECO Mode with Doubles more than 50% of the time. Never crossed a speed of 60 or 4.5k RPM. Am reasonably satisfied with it though am expecting it to improve after 1st Service.

    Some Observations :

    1) Gear Shift from 1 to 2 is a bit hard. Down shifting when at a speed of around 40 is also a bit hard.

    2) I wanted to know about the Engine noise or smoothness of other Member's GSR. I mean, when the Engine is started and kept Idle, is the Engine noise not heard at all to the Rider or is it mild. It is easily audible to me though.
Also, while accelerating at lower gears till say 3rd, i can hear the Engine Noise even after wearing a Helmet.
I have just taken a Test Drive of a Unicorn for 5 minutes and that too of a 3 Year Old Unicorn. So, am not in a position to compare both of them.
This is my Personal Opinion, but i cannot call it butter smooth.
But never does the Engine seem strained.
Maybe i am wrong as i have no experience of riding a Butter Smooth Bike.
Hoping it will get smoother after 1st Service.

    3) While Kick Starting the Bike in the morning, i get this "Clunk Clunk" noise while kicking if the Bike does not start in the first few kicks. Has anybody experienced this?

    Your Inputs would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    • Got the bike yesterday during heavy rains.... people are saying its a good sign
      Few observations:
      1) 3.5k rpm vibration is there but almost negligible... my 4 year old pulsar also had slight vibrations around 3.5k rpm, today tried new cbz extreme it also had slight vibrations around 3.5k rpm... so seems like its universal problem in all the bikes .
      2) yeah.. brakes are not upto the mark and hope will be good after first service.
      3) Gear shifting was little hard while going to home from showroom, but today morning was smooth... might get smoother as time passes..
      4) All body parts are in good condition.. no rusting anywhere. Built quality is definitely better than bajaj and hh
      4) Bikes feels really big, rode 6 months old pulsar and new cbz xtreme today, felt like small bikes

Some one mentioned about the 'clunk' sound while starting the bike... thats the sound of the electric starter... and common in all electric starter fitted bikes but intensity of the sound changes. yeah in gs its more compared to pulsar and unis

      • jayanth buddy now u have to cope with it
thats what i always wanted to tell but .....,,,, useless discussion end up nowhere.... all individual perceptions

see if the vibs would have been above 60
        then it was cool

coz in this range u normally commute
        exactly as i tht

irritating to get those vibs again n again
Hope is a good thing ,

You are most welcome outworldly maniac

I guess GS needs better bulb to show me the way during night, might change the bulb to philips or osram

I'm just thinking of changing the engine oil right after 100km odo reading... what you guys think, will it help?

                Comment

                • Changing the oil early is not needed if you are running it as per manual. Only if you are running it harsh, then you should change the oil even as early as 50kms. Otherwise, normal oil change at 500kms is OK.

As per bulb, if Karizma with its 9AH battery can support 60W bulbs on DC connection, why can't GS with similar specs do the same? Has anyone tried popping in a 60W bulb and running it on DC?

                  • Changing bulb to 60W needs holder and wire to be changed and even the reflector might get damaged (rare case), because generally the stock holder and wire is capable of handling 35w bulb. I had philips bulb in my ealier fiero f2 and was very good, just we need to make sure that the buld should be original and not the made in china one.

Thanks for the information about the oil change.

                    • There is not much difference in heat generated by 35W and 60W. Been using one in my Caliber 115 with load shedding with no melting of reflector.

                        Guys,
Generally, electric starters don't work when the engine is running. Pushing the start button does nothing. It is not the case with GS -- it even operates even while the engine is running. Have any of you observed this. Is this a flaw? Is it safe (for the starter and the engine)?

Gears are getting smoother n smoother.

But having problem when upshifting gears. Need to always reach my heels to the back side of the lever.

As someone said I too face probs while starting bike with kicker.
I tried it some mornings. Ended up using electric starter after 3-4 kicks

u can get the gear shifter adjusted if u are finding the heel shifter a little higher.. its adjustable..
somewhere on xbhp i found an advice for longer battery & engine life - everytime u cold-start a bike.. turn the choke on, kick start the bike.. do the idling for almost 30 seconds.. and then vrrrooommmmm...

do u use choke,,,,,,,,,,,, in the morning use choke and kick start

                                but before that
                                try doing a thing
with the ignition off,,,,,, kick 2-4 times with ease,,,, mean from the top ,,,,, take the kick down like ur swinging it down till the end

then using choke with the ignition on
kick ,,,,, within max 3 kicks the bike starts

                                if it doesnt
Hope is a good thing ,
