Re: Yamaha YZF R3 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Originally posted by drdanishkhannew.540 View PostAlso just got a call from Yamaha regarding a different complaint and i took the opportunity to inquire about the R3 and he "explained" it was a "Premium sportsbike" and test rides are not given as per company directives and only at dealers discretion.. so that pretty much ends the whole decision making process. Guess KTM it is. Thank you everybody for the valuable inputs. Bangalore guys you are the luckiest bunch i swear..
Spent a whole day driving around and went to 5-6 different dealers looking for a test ride or even just to see the bike in person, none of them had it.
Finally the last one I went to was getting a bike ready for customer delivery so they said I could sit on it for a minute just to check if it suits me, that's it. So after sitting on it for literally one minute, I decided R3 was going to be it.
The sales person was not the most enthusiastic chap about selling me the R3 (wanted me to go for R15 instead or Fazer) but that didn't deter me and today I'm glad b/c I love the damn thing.
Yes, it was involved in the first recall and now the second one too but atleast Yamaha is doing their part in taking care of their customers; they didn't just say screw you... deal with it. Atleast that's how I see it as they are trying to correct any problems/mistakes.
I had issues with Error Code 19 but never while riding, just wouldn't start so I called up the SVC and they sent the R3 tech to take a look, he got it started for me and then I rode it the SVC the next day and got it fixed, all free of charge. Also had an issue after taking delivery where the batt connections were loose as the PDI had not been done (make sure they do it, it says it in the manual they they have to do it as well if they try telling you otherwise).
I was frustrated and a little angry at the time as to how something like this could happen with such a premium bike but it's a distant memory now. It also gave me a chance to get to know the R3 tech and SVC manager better which is a definate plus as I get my bike taken care of better than most other bikes and on a priority basis and haven't faced any issues since.
Btw, I'm 6'2" and have a bad back due to bad posture while sitting at a computer all day but still have no problems at all while riding. I ride it to office 2-3 times a week in rush hour traffic but still get 22-23 km/l and never goes over 3/6 bars on the temp gauge (normal operating temp) and is easy to handle as well. So don't base your decision solely on the dealers.
Sorry bout the long post.

By the way, the Dhankawadi Monarch Yamaha SVC mechanics are a very friendly and open bunch of people(not the most technically advanced you'll find though). Its a very small SVC shop. (Sales suck there as well, as most of their stores).
Those guys have just been trained for Yamaha R3/ R6 last they told me. Make a visit there next time and see if you like their service.
I bought my R15S from there and can't really complain.
Regards.

Re: Yamaha YZF R3 Owners Reviews and Experiences
You guys are lucky to have professional mechanics and management to help you out there.. The so called mechanic in Aligarh didnt even know if there was a recall and claimed he was an expert on the R3 but couldnt tell me the cc it was clamining it was 300 instead of 320.. so my confidence was shattered.. Lucknow dealership does have a few very good mechanics wrt to R15 but i dont know how much experince they have woth R3 since so few were sold.

Indeed R3 TD is at dealers discretion. I guess thats the case with Ninja also. Incidents happens people who takes TD would crash the bike. SO in that sense manufacturers wont be giving TD.[/QUOTE]
Agreed but atleast have a showroom bike so that i can sit on it atleast.

The service in charge there is pretty knowledgeable and helpful
And the people there even work and won't fool around all the time like most centres

I think it would be better if manufacturer's provide a test bike to the showrooms (at least 1 per city in case of such expensive bikes) so that folks can get a test ride and the showroom doesn't have to lock up their funds.. it comes down to economics for these dealers.

Good to note Yamaha making the recall to fix the Error-19 issue, better late then never!
Now, the only thing missing to make R3 a good buy proposition in 300cc segment is ABS, hope Yamaha relaunches R3 with ABS very soon!

Re: Yamaha YZF R3 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Hello Everyone,
I am planning to buy R3 in the next one month. I wanted ask if there will be any updates in the 2017 model in terms of design and color because in the US R3 has introduced new colours? Has anyone purchased a 2017 manufactured model yet since we are almost 2 months into the new year? Your suggestions will really help.Regards,

Since I am planning to buy R3, I inquired in few showrooms in different cities. They said they can deliver only 2016 manufactured vehicle, because the 2017 manufacturing hasn't started yet and we can get 2017 mft vehicles only by end of march or April mid. And they said they can't confirm that there will be any updates in the 2017 batches like colours and ABS
