Since Olx is kinda dead in finding a pre-owned big(ger) bike except D390, how and where to find people who are letting go their R3?
I need to start saving for the next bike bike and if savings don't hit good levels then the dream of owning either R3 or N300 will remain a dream.

Are you not considering Ninja 300 which has ABS with slipper clutch and cheaper by 50k?

Hi I have booked for a Yamaha R3 yesterday. Delivery expected by Saturday. The dealer is Monarch Automobiles Pune.
I have been going through this thread of R3 ownership experience for over a year now, and it has been really helpful in my buying decision.

Although my confusion was b/n N300 newly launched and R3 , further ground clearance drop, weight increase by 7 kg and the usual high total cost of ownership/spares of N300 made me inclined more towards R3.Moreover, its seems N300 is available from Sep only in Kawa Pune .
Did a test ride of R3 non-ABS version (they don't give test ride on ABS version), was pretty nimble. In that busy road couldn't go beyond 3rd gear for a long time so didn't feel the mad rush so much but did feel the smoothness of the engine.

I would be changing the rear fender along with the indicator lights. Any lead where I can do in Pune ?
Also, I am searching for Yoshimura R77 slip-on, anywhere it is available in Pune? Akrapovic seems to be available in many places.

I wanted R3 because of brand name, boredom with my then existing smaller bike, powerful sports tourer features.

Luckily I got my hands on a brand new second hand bike(hardly 330kms run) in a steal deal(got it in a price which I wanted to).
Until then I have not regretted taking that decision.
Maintenance is much cheaper as compared to my existing bikes(R15 or Duke200)
I have tried following the service manual to an extent whenever time for oil change has come.
I have not done periodic servicing as suggested by manual because that is to early to do.
          1) I have regularly changed engine oil(Motul 7100 10w40), air filter and oil filter every 5000kms
          2) Changed spark plugs at every 20k kms(using NGK CR9E)
          3) Changed front brake pads at 37k kms
          4) Changed chain sprocket at 37k kms
          5) Changed Fork oil at 25k and 50k
          6) Changed Fork springs at 50k
          7) Swing arm greasing at 30k
          8) Wheel bearing greasing at 30k. Checked wheel bearings at 55k kms and they are good to continue
          9) Have replaced low beam headlight multiple times as it gets fused in 400-500hrs usage
          10) Rear brake pads still going good at 60k
          11) Coneset still going good at 60k
          12) Using K&N air filter from last 15k kms(Cost of filter 4700 and cost of recharger kit 1400)
          13) Brake overhaul every 15k kms which include brake line bleeding with Dot4 oil, cleaning of calipers and discs and scrubbing brake pads with sand paper.
          14) I clean and wash bike and chain every 900 kms and lube using Yamaha dry chain lube costing 1420 rupees a can and last around 8 sprays and use diesel to clean.

My Servicing at every 5000 kms have been usually oil change, oil filter change, clutch lever adjustment, brake adjustment, chain slack adjustment which amounts to under 3000 bucks including price of motul oil, oil filter cost, general service cost, washing and lubing.

So every 5000km cost me around 3000 maintenance cost and around 13500 rupees fuel(as per riding style).

Currently at 60k km at odo I have replaced tyres only once after running on MRF stock tyres for 23k kms, Michelin PSD for 35k kms and good to go for next 5k kms max. (Used Ralco and ceat combination for a trip and then didnt used).

I have not made changes on bike apart from replacing stock tyres, stock air filter and spark plugs.
Planning to get powerful headlamps, brakelines and another set of tyres soon.
That pushes many of us towards R3, I am inclined to go for R3 now. Soon baby soon..

Thanks for your honest and very crisp & extensive review, that helps many new buyers on post buy

            Hi guys,
While riding back from work today, I was cruising at 70-80kmph and when I shifted to the 6th gear, the engine just died and wouldn't start. I had to roll over to the side and turn the ignition off and on and then it starts.
In lower gears, have felt a jerk a few times.
(Feels like it's running out of fuel) but keeps running smooth otherwise.
This is the first time this happened.
Bike normally starts in one press.
Has run around 32000kms, completely stock.(battery not replaced)
Recall for clutch plate was done. It wasn't part of the other recall for faulty switch and lock.
            AweSome is too LesS!

Is the fuel filled from a reputed station?
Most probably it's the fuel that should be examined. Or it could have traces of water or moisture since its rainy season.

Yes. Its from a reputed place. Have been filling from this place for a long while and havent faced any issues.
I doubt the water and moisture though. Cos I did a water wash yesterday

If you are low on fuel, try to fill it up again and see if the bike still behaves like this.
After water wash, the bike does feel nice to see but then water enters those places where we don't want it to.

Check air filter too, R3’s air filter gets dirty within 4k-5k kms.

Shall check. Tried to open it, but the screw heads are kind of worn. Shall take it to the asc and get everything done.
At 70-80kmph, the bike feels like huffing and puffing sometimes, but attains good speeds after that

Try and clean your throttle bodies if you can.
I used the Liqui Molly throttle body cleaner and it does a great job.

When was the last time you changed the spark plugs? 10k is the interval for spark plug change. With the huffing and puffing, are you facing low mileage and any misfires?
Try changing air filter every 5k kms. It is a good practice considering the amount of dusty condition we live in.

A little background to my ownership. I got the bike from a friend at 30000kms.

Ahh yes. The mileage was low and misfiring was there.

Got the bike serviced completely. Changed all the fluids, spark plugs, both air and oil filter, cleaned the throttle bodies.
Have ridden it only for 30kms now, so I'll wait to give my verdict. Haven't faced any stalling or huffing as of now, but let's see.
