Went to karol bagh to test out sounds of both 1st copy & original akrapovik exhausts,

Will be going to replace the stock exhaust real soon, as the bike's refinement mutes the whole character,
I want it more bassy, already have a 1st copy slipon on my CBR650f

What exhausts you guys are using,

Hi Buff,
Please keep us posted once you change the exhaust. Also where you got it. Last but not the least , donot forget to share some pics.

I am planning to get the R3 as an upgrade from my existing Gixxer SF which I rode for 2 years. I went to a local Yamaha Dealership for quote and enquiry. They are telling me that Yamaha is not providing Extended Warranty on higher CC bikes like the R3. Is this true? I don't feel comfortable and safe with the official 2 year company warranty.

Maybe write in to yamaha customer service on their email and ask for a clarification.
If they indeed do not provide the extended warranty, not much you can do.

Yes it’s true, R3 comes with standard 2 years warranty. Extended warranty is not available.

So, how's the spare parts availability for the R3 in India? How does it compare with the Kawasaki Ninja 300 if anyone could shed light on the matter? The one major concern which made me not consider the Ninja 300 over the R3 is this.

The Ninja 300 has been internationally discontinued in favour of the Ninja 400 in an effort to increase its compliance with Euro IV, so given there are no (and never will be) International Euro VI (BS-6) compliant Ninja 300 models, it is safe to assume the Ninja 300 might get discontinued in India when the mandate of BS-6 transition if due in April, 2020 which raises a bigger concern about spare parts availability, as to some people, the current drop in prices is just an international stock clearance exercise in disguise of "Part Localisation". This shady nature of Kawasaki might make it a risky investment to people like me at this point, as I don't want to get stranded and go through a trauma of parts unavailability once it gets permanently discontinued for being unable to upgrade to BS-6. I am not a person who is ready to go searching through Ebay / Aliexpress and fanatically calling other dealers across the country to procure parts.

So, I just wish to know if there is a similar risk with the R3 in the near future? Or is it a much better investment when it comes to peace of mind like Dealer Network across the country, readily available spare parts and assurance for few years to come. The reason I have decided to pay the premium of 60k for the R3 over the Ninja 300 is to have a peace of mind.

Since I owned a Yamaha for a few years in the same city as you are, I can tell you that parts availability for Yamaha is no big deal. Firstly, Yamaha customer care is pretty good in sorting out issues at the earliest. Secondly, apart from the dealer service centres, we have several standalone spare parts shop in the city to help us out with parts availability. Moreover R3 is an international model which will have a slight makeover in 2019 probably. Hence parts availability wont be an issue at all.

icarious: Extended warranty is available for 3 more years. I'm not exactly sure of the charges since it was given complimentary to me.
As for the spares availability, 1 week is mostly the TAT for regular spares in big cities. Discontinued bike and car models also have spares support for at least a decade or so depending upon their sales figures so it's not a concern. I'm still easily getting spares for my R15 v1 2008 and could procure and fix the entire bike within hours after couple of major accidents recently.
Regarding the new model, spy pics of R25 testing have found new fairing, headlamp design and front cowl. Rest is all the same. But it can't be told for sure until the facelift is officially launched. I'd say it'll easily take a couple of years time.

VRNANDAGOPAL: I have the flush mount LEDs on both my bikes. Available on Amazon (eBay India is no more) if you don't like to deal on Ali Express.
But I'd still suggest Ali Express or Amazon/eBay international coz it's available for much lesser [emoji4]

I visited another dealer for quotation today which confirmed me Extended Warranty is not provided for the R3 and higher ups. If you go to https://www.yamaha-motor-india.com/s...ctionplus.html and choose a product, you will find the YZF R3 being greyed out. This might be a latest development since when you had yours.

Extended warranty period of 3 years is NOT applicable for R3. I have cross checked the same with Yamaha India and they told the same. I have one too but it is of no use. The showroom guys duped me and lured me into it while buying the bike.

Yes, i have the Halo-GTR ones from TST Industries. They're bright and very good to look/spot. And no, there's none like TST Industries in India nor do they ship to India. Your best bet is to ask someone coming from the States to hand-carry it for you.

But you could try other brands/replicas which are available online. Ebay/AliExpress is your spot to find one.

Hi. Can anyone verify if the R3 arrives in the Showroom in crates? Is it possible to demand them to unbox the unit allotted to me in front of me, instead of being allotted a display bike or the ones their "mechanics" ride all the way from some remote warehouse? Did anyone do something like this here? I don't want to get a 2nd hand "As soon as a bike of this segment is ridden, its practically second hand for someone who is paying his hard earned money". I don't want the mechanics to remove the speedo cable while the bike is ridden around , revving hard and destroying the run-in (Something similar to the KTM incident). Would be great to hear from anyone who got it unboxed from the crate and how he negotiated that.

Here in Kolkata, in all the dealerships I went to get a quote, they are either ready to deliver it for PDI and delivery to the dealership being ridden by their mechanics from a warehouse some 40 kms away, deliver a display bike which has been hopped and "Felt" by God knows how many people. I am not comfortable with this.

Also, what is the average mileage everyone is getting on the R3 in stop go traffic of city?

It is totally depends on the showroom guy. U can request him to inform you when it arrives so that you can be present there.
And it is also possible, you can take the bike from warehouse itself and bring it showroom but again totally depends on the rapport with the showroom.
U can also request to inform you when they do PDI.

Hi,

My 2018 R3 has done 2000+ kms and the only issue the came is that the AHO (Low beam) failed one day? Why? It failed as the plug became loose due to the lovely Indian roads and soft suspension of the R3 and me following the speed limit

The bike is an absolute dream to live with

This is one of the closest and beautiful picture of the 2018 R3.
The picture makes you go weak on your knees.

Have you done any mods or added any accessories yet?
I see white strips on the RIM. Have you explicitly added them?
