Do you have any idea/info on when (or if) MT-03 would come to India?

Mid 2016, as per the reports here:

Yamaha MT-03 (naked R3) to be launched in India around mid-2016

Yamaha to launch MT-03 street bike in India - The Economic Times

Yamaha has already patented the product in India. Also states that the MT03 will be assembled locally and that Yamaha have already set up a facility here. The cost is expected to be 30-40k lesser than the R3 ex showroom.

Has anyone heard any news from the dealers? The cost savings are quite significant and are tempting me to hold off till the MT03 is launched.

Brought bike to office today. Noticed coolant leak around the engine bay. Checked the coolant level but didn't find anything alarming.

Bike has done 500 Kms so far. Will take to the service center to get it checked

Myself im mostly a city rider and have owned bikes like rxg, fazer 16 and ktm d200. I currently have a fz 16 which i strictly use as a back up to my car. Now i want to upgrade to a twin cylinder from yamaha. Im confused if i should go ahead with R3 or wait for the MT 03? I mostly prefer naked motorcycles but im open to the R3. My usage would be 80% within city limits and on a regular basis. Appreciate your thoughts on the matter considering the MT03 is expected to be cheaper than the R3? If yes, will it be by a significant amount or negligible?

Also any R3 owner from New Delhi can advise about their experiences with Adarsh Yamaha - sales and service?

          Appreciate it. Cheers
If you have the patience to wait for MT03 maybe it will also have ABS and for mostly riding in city naked bike will be the best.

As far as the probable dates for launch of the MT03 are concerned, take these reports with a pinch of salt. The same sources were damn sure that the MT03 will be launched at the expo. But forget launching, they did not even showcase the product. And about dealer's information, the less said the better.

Expect the MT03 to be around 25-30k cheaper, not more than that. The plastic parts(fairing) of the R3 are less expensive. The metal parts are costly.

Also, since you prefer the rideability of the nakeds, you will find the R3 to be pretty comfortable. The ergonomics are not committed, low and mid range torque spread is fantastic, heat dissipation is never an issue and the ground clearance is pretty decent too. Take a test ride and you will be surprised at how less demanding the bike is from the rider.

Update from R3 : Around 2200 kms done. Getting a fuel economy of 25kmpl with almost 100% city riding(80% heavy traffic situations).

Took delivery of R3 today at Bilaspur, registration number will be provided most probably after 1 week because R3 is not yet registered in RTO portal.

Yup sold both duke 390 & R15, resale value is not so good here in Raipur for duke 390, R15's resale value is excellent, i had to ride 130 kms from showroom (Bilaspur) to my home (Raipur) on state highway which is not so good, will write a detailed comparo between two bikes and buying experience .

Agreed on all your points. Yes Yamaha didn't showcase MT03 at the expo and yes the riding position of the R3 is quite relaxed comparatively speaking. My main aversion to faired bikes is because of the attention they draw. I dont have a guarded or closed parking at office and i had terrible experiences with the D200 in the first few months as mine was one of the first ones i south delhi. People have no respect for others property.

Anyways i am going to Adarsh Yamaha @Adchini to check out the bike this weekend. Anybody here can share their experience with the dealer's sales service experience with the R3 specifically? Do they offer test drives or only after booking? Cheers

True that. The bike is an attention magnet. And about the test rides, no dealer is giving test rides for R3 in India unless you book it. Then too expect the ride to be short. The booking amount should not be more than 5000 and should be completely refundable in case you change your mind. Else call up Yamaha customer care.

Wrong. There are two showrooms in Bangalore and 2 in Kerala that Gives test rides(there are plenty more, this is all I know). You dont need to book the bike.
Ride, ride and ride.. But always do it responsibly..

Guess things are better down south.. i was asked for 50000 as booking amount and only then i could get a test ride.. lots of drama these dealers are doing here in UP.. i was quite interested but the way they are managing and treating customers is horrible..

J M Motors in Noida is giving test drive of Yamaha R3.. I got one from them and was sold. Bought the bike the next day for 3.65 lakhs including zero dep insurance. They had both colours in stock.
