On 26th Jan, went roaming to brigade road, in such low traffic as well the bike was steaming and cooking my legs and then my butt.
I accidentally turned off the bike at one signal before brigade road.
Sat there for a good one minute with the bike turned off with the key.
Started the bike with 20 seconds to go for green light and the temps went to 4 bars.
tried to start, funny squeaky starter motor sound came but bike did not start.
tried again, same thing happend but bike started. Now it turned off on its own in 5 seconds.
tried again, but this time it took even longer to start and I had to give a bit of throttle and kept the bike ON.

I will never turn the bike off now at any signal. its too scary here in Bangalore.

if the bike stopped itself due to heat, then its advised to shutoff bike for atleast for 10-15min to cool down, else not needed as Fan will be running and cooling the engine.

by your experience i remembered 2 incidents , First, my GT250R stuck in Mejestic[citi center] slow moving traffic and due to confined space and lack of liquid cooling [its air+oil cooled] bike reached high temperature in less than 20 min and shut off, and refused to start , had to switchoff the bike and waited for 15min and everything was fine. lesson learnt , even if it takes few km extra distance ride it instead crawling in traffic.
Second incident on Ninja 250 , same situation but liquid cooling is better on ninja , the temp raised quickly in slow moving traffic and started feeling heat on legs and under the seat. so have to trun off / on whenever got chance.

        conclusion , multi-cylinder bikes don't like Traffffik

One thing you not need to do is when the bike engine is hot and you feel the radiator is blowing then don't turn off the engine.because if you do the engine will even become more hot.simple - if u have a hot frying pan and you are blowing air on it to cool down.but all of a sudden you stop blowing air and close the lid.....imagine how hot it will get.same goes for bike engines

No it doesn't work that way. The large surface area of the bike will ensure heat is dissipated quickly if allowed to rest for few minutes. Moreover you are not blowing cool air on a hot engine. it's more like an exhaust fan throwing the hot air outside. Also you are not putting a lid on a hot bike by shutting it off(unless you are covering it immediately with a thick cover).

            That analogy won't fit here.

Never faced any issues with the TNT 300 even in worst traffic conditions i am considering switching to R3 but if this is a common problem then i will reconsider my decision.

I have been caught up in the dreaded sony signal junction traffic in Koramangala,Bangalore for a couple of times. The bike did get unbearably hot. But the moment you ride for 200-300 meters its all back to normal. Also I used to shut down the engine before on a signal and i faced the starting problem once. I read over the internet that I need not do that as the fan would take care. From that day onwards, i don't switch off the engine in traffic and this has worked. Not faced the starting issue after that.I am no expert but I guess these twin cylinders do tend to warm up and R3 is no different.

Bro this is not a common issue with R3. This behavior is common with faired bikes, nothing out of the ordinary. For me this happened once and when I showed it at the svc the relay was not functioning properly. Got it changed under warranty and the bike has not shown any issues since then.

OK... I don't knew that faired bikes have this. I have been using a naked since I bought my first pulsar 200.

But after the change in relay.. I don't think so u had any issues. Did u get stuck in a traffic jam after that.

Either keep the engine running or switch off entirely using key. This will avoid battery drain.
If you use only the kill switch, the headlamp and fan will drain the battery.

And it's a common feature that the bike takes a longer press of the starter button to crank up when warm.

On another note, here's the engine oil after using for 3K kms.
The color doesn't bother me much, but it was a little coarse to touch and smelling a little burnt as well.
I have decided to change it every 3K kms.

I request the 'very knowledgeable owners' from the WhatsApp group not to make this a big debate.
Maybe you wanna use it as per manual.
                        This is just my choice.

Funny thing my RC390 (which we all know has a history of heating issues) was stuck in a 45 minute traffic jam twice and still didn't overheat
The temp didn't even touch the last 3 bars

Though pad contact shouldn't be ruled, pad contact would sound different, this from what I hear, clearly indicates rubber rubbing something. My first thought would be the chain rubbing chain pads which is normal. Brake pads contact would have a tinny metallic sound to it. Just in case, check your real wheel if it's rubbing something and check if the bike has a chain pad, if yes, check if the rollers are in contact with them. If yes, then it's perfectly normal.

                              Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                              The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

I heard all KTM bikes prior to 2015 had heating issues, all 2015 models got a new radiator guard n bigger fan.
