Try getting the horn tuned before swapping. It might cause warranty issues

Some pics from my three day ride to Chindi, HP and Tattapani, HP. Covered almost a 1000 kms in two travel days. The bike held really well even on bad roads, including those laden with gravel and sand from construction work. It took the corners really well.. One thing here, this bike really lets you make mistakes. So many, I would brake abruptly or panic, but the bike just held itself up. I also used the ViaTerra Claw, and it fits the bike properly. Its almost like strap it and forget it. Didnt move or budge around at all.

        Just leaving some info:

Someone had mentioned that they were looking at the R3 in chennai but they werent able to lay their hands on one for a test ride. Try contacting Mrs Padmini from Sri Motors Ekkaduthangal(Near Kasi theatre flyover). PM me if you need info regarding the same.

Cheers bro, its for a close buddy of mine, more than a test, atleast sit on the bike and see if the ergonomics matches the rider n the exhaust note, that's all,I found majority of the Yamaha showrooms not even having a display model leave alone a test ride, only other place I found with a display piece n someone mentioned a TD was Yamaha motors gudvanchery which is very far off, either way thanks for the info, much appreciated (Y)

I did get a short test ride which made me fall in love with the bike. I did pester them for it though. Now they have a dedicated test ride bike but they give only short rides unfortunately. The ergos are fine for a person with 178cm height.

I have been an ardent fan of Yamaha Japanese build and quality over the years, but with the Yamaha R3, I am disappointed. Maybe the Noida assembly line is to blame. Below is why.

                1. Tire cracks - The attached picture will tell you the story. The MRFs provided have developed cracks in the rear tires. I want to shift to Pirellis or Metzelers but the stock size of tires makes it impossible to do so (150 vs 140 sections). I do not know Yamaha provides poor tires on a performance motorcycle.

                2. Vibrations - I feel vibrations in the handlebar, the footpegs, tank and rider seat post 5k rpm. The vibrations increase as the revs climb up. So much for Japanese smoothness! Again the engine has moving parts and it will vibrate. Too much of the vibes is transferred to the body of the bike. Poor assembly case. I tried racing clipons on the bike without the bar end and in bar weights. The vibes in the handlebar with those clipons will beat a RE. But again those were race specific clipons, so no complaints with them!

                3. Handlebar swaying - The handlebar sways precariously to the left once I take both hands of it. So whenever I ride, I am basically fighting the left sway of the bike. A lot of nuts have been tightened here and there to fix this issue. Again a assembly problem.

                4. Paint faded - Again will let the picture tell you the story. The bike is always parked under a shade with minimal usage in the hot sun. Paint has faded on the tail and on the exhaust. A Hero Extreme that stands next to me having 20K odd on the odo still has the paint intact on the exhaust.

                5. Service support - Here in Hyderabad, there seems to be only 'one person' in the radius of 10 kms who is trained to handle a R3. This person by the name of Venkatesh is never available at the service center, does not understand anything any problems I have with the bike (his response to swaying was tightening the bolt that holds the front wheel followed by 'itnaa tw hogaa hi' ). He does not know how to service the bike - For my first service he added only 2 L of engine oil using two bottles while the manual clearly mentions 2.1. I had to get extra 100 ml added myself. The service head for superbikes at the showroom is always out of office! So basically, I am left in the dark as far as support goes.

But there is only one thing in this bike that makes it worth - the engine! The pull the engine is generating at 5K odo is better than what I ever experienced on my RC. The sound post 9K rpm while accelerating is eargasmic. The sound of engine braking while decelerating from 10k rpm is another eargasm. People will always turn to look if you are on the same road over 7k rpm! The engine braking is awesome yet smooth (not jerky like KTMs). The throttle response is great. The bike masks high speeds very well (this is good and dangerous at the same time).

This said, all the other parts on the bike have been given a shoddy treatment while assembling by Yamaha in Noida. If I could, i would dismantle the whole thing and assemble it again - torque wrenching every screw and double checking every rubber mount.
Before the owners who are facing none of the above issues train there guns at me, I would like the say that the views are person and restricted to 'My R3'. Maybe I got a lemon or maybe I do not know how to ride/take care of the bike. But these problems are real and am hoping future owners with high Japanese quality expectations know, just in case!

Bottom line is I am going to get down to the root cause of all the four issues and fix them (this is already in progress. Lot of things planned). For number 5, I will need eventually need to buy a toolkit for myself and visit SVC only for consumables and filling out service booklet.

Exactly same issues we(3 of us from Pune) are facing here and following up with Yamaha.
Yamaha-R3 product head is coming here and will be checking our bikes this week.
Let me know if you need any help in contacting the right person.

Hi guys, I just received my bike's RC card today via speed post. I observed that it shows number of cylinders as 1. What does it show for you. It's not really a problem. But just asking. BTW, my bike got registered in rajajinagar rto, Bangalore. Bought from Bangalore Wheels.

On the other hand, I also have the handle bar swaying issue and the right side handle bar being more close to the tank compared to the left side handle bar. I have dropped the bike in service center for first service today. When I told them about the problem, the service engineer said that the handle bar is close to the tank on right side because of the location of the lock. Is that true? Have you guys sorted out this issue with your bike? He didn't say anything about the swaying issue. He said he would check that.

Hi Naag, first thing first, the cylinders showing on RC as 1 in Rajajinagar RTO has become a headache to many R3 owners and it's not okay.Reason being is when the day you have an engine problem or any other problem and you apply for insurance,I hardly believe they will accept it by telling this is not a single cylinder as mentioned on RC hence no insurance.Go to Bangalore wheels and throw the RC on their face and tell them to rectify it ASAP. C'mon man you have paid 4 lakh for a motorcycle and the document is not right?how can it be okay?

For your second question,NO!!! Handle bar on all motorcycles should be uniform on both sides and no lock or any other stuff would disturb the uniformity of handle.Go to 1st floor on bangalore wheels and meet the owner sitting in his office on the right side just after the stairs and tell him that the service guy is trying to fool you and demand for either replacement or a new bike 😊
There's a light at each end of this tunnel you shout cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out.

Even I have the same issue with the RC card. 1 cylinder !! I asked the dealer i.e. Vinayak Yamaha and they showed me the papers they had sent to the RTO and it had everything correct. The RTO people are useless and enter data according to their whims. The dealer said he cant help because they have sent the correct info and I have to change on my own.And going by the number of R3 owners who are having issues with RC card in bangalore , i am thinking is this a scam to get more money from us in the name of correction.

i have seen same for old ninja250 , almost all of them are mentioned as 1 cylinder , so no worries
may be this is due to RTO database which not been updated with cylinder information

Unrelated question, all performance enhancement parts are banned in Kerala correct? Like for example even if I change a airfilter will the coppers have a issue?coming to the r3 many ppl reported handle bar swaying from various parts, is it something that can be rectified, and wat about engine heating n stalling, heard a few ppl had that issue.

Want to give my feedback on engine heating. I am in Hyderabad and it is burning HOTT here.

Was on the road today at around 12 PM in peak heat and moderate stop and go traffic. The temperature bar on the bike never went past three. The fan was very silent as always. You might see the fourth bar if you stop at a traffic light but as soon as you move, it will come down to 3.
This is a bike which has done 5K kms mostly in city. There has been no stalling issues with her so far either.

With the kind of power and displacement the bike has, the heat management of the engine is absolutely brilliant.
There is no better therapy than riding a bike down a straight road at full throttle with the sound of the engine for company.
