Anzen kawasaki both in Goa and Mumbai is also offering N300 at a discounted price of 4.05 on road from previous 4.58 . Stock Clearance ???

You need to get your bike fixed from them as well.
Kawasaki Goa is under Anzen kawasaki which also owns Mumbai showroom . I have only good things about them , including supply of spares . Anzen also has AMC package of their own , which works out ok but nothing in comparison to R3 service cost of Yamaha which is super low but Yamaha showroom which is 400 meters from my place doesn't have good reputation in service department which is making quite nervous .

Hello riders

After waiting impatiently for Yamaha to relaunch the BS-IV version of the R3, I have bought a second-hand R3 in Delhi with 5,000 km on the odo this week. The bike is in great condition and as I am upgrading from an Apache 180, the smoothness of the engine and way the R3 just swoops you into three-digit speeds, has got me laughing for no reason whatsoever. Been following this thread for a good part of the year (as I am sure lot of other aspiring R3 owners also are) so I wanted to say hello and thank all the owners who have given their inputs and taken time to share their experiences so that people like me could get many perspectives on a bike for which no showroom is ready to give a TD.

Ridden about 500 km on the R3 and loving every single minute spent with it. Here are some pics from a small midnight ride to Murthal.

Sweet. R3s are rare in the used market. Congrats man. Good decision. 5k odo means it’s in a sweet spot - Feels like new yet no need to run in. How much did you get it for?

Sarvajit and hellgate Thanks for your replies guys. Yesterday I got a new set of pirelli sport demon for a good price as there was no stock of diablo rosso in the shelf. I was not in a position to wait as the rear tyre was in very bad condition. Regarding the vibration, I had a fall last year September. But the bike was as good as ever even after the fall. I'm experiencing vibrations only after the 4th service. I gave it to 5th service to get the vibrations checked but didn't help. It's too much at the handlebars. And it's too annoying. The fairing bolts are all fine. What else could be the issue?

thanks guys, got it for 2.7. Im not sure if the price was good bargain or not but the bike is in great condition and the previous owner was genuine and service records were in order. Plus got two free service coupons inclusive of oil change so made it a decent deal I think.

a small doubt, what coolant does the R3 use? coolant level is kinda below the mid-level mark in mine and Im thinking of getting it topped up before any longer rides.

Thanks

thats a decent deal! what all did you check or observe to conclude that the bike was healthy? I found an R3 for second sale. It has around 5k on odo! but I have no clue on how to check the condition of the bike!

You can use Motul Motocool Expert. How old is the bike? If its 2yrs old, then I would recommend doing a complete coolant flush and then change coolant.

There are several things to check like odd vibrations, odd sound/noise from engine. See if the engine revs smoothly or stutters at some specific RPM. Check for odd paint jobs/paint cracks at the chassis joints as this would mean a serious accident has bent/damaged the chassis (run away from such bikes). Ride the bike for sometime and see if you can feel the handle pulling in any specific direction. Then there are generic checks like chain, tyres, brake pads etc....

Try using SHELL Rimula R4 along with a new oil filter. Should resolve your issue.

Hi Surya, first off id say that for a yamaha bike, 5k is nothing. I have seen R15s and FZs with close to 1 lakh kms on the odo still in great working condition! Regarding checking a second hand bike before purchase here are the things i look for: (I have bought 3 second-hand bikes personally including the r3 till now and two bikes for my friends)

In exact order of inspection:

1) Vin number and engine number on bike and on RC - should match

2) Looks: These are the parts on which you need to look for scratches
- Handle bar ends, underside and near the steering nut. Though you can ignore any scratches near the keyhole as that can be caused by the keychain
- Clutch and brake levers ends
- Exhaust, the piece of plastic on top of the exhaust
- Foot rests, back brake pedal and gear lever
Stand in front of the bike and see if the two indicator stalks are jutting out at the same angle.

3) Check for oil leaks below the engine and on the forks (kinda tough with fairing). There are plenty of youtube guides on how to check leaky forks but i just wipe em with my hand once before and after the test drive to see if there is any residue

4) Corrosion or rust on the bike frame. Again this is tough so carry a flashlight. Also surface rust on exhaust is normal but there should be NO crumbling flakes of rust on chassis and exhaust pipe. Also see if there is any fresh paint on the chassis.

5) Oil stains or oil leak in exhaust pipe (Unlikely in a fresh bike but walk away if you see any)

6) Check if a single key opens all the locks (steering, panels, backseat)

7) Start the bike and let it idle for 2-3 mins. Idle should be strong and steady. Idle should not have waves of weaker and stronger revs.

8) Now give the bike a hard rev and look at the exhaust pipe at the same time to check if any black smoke comes out. There should not be any.

9) Listen near the engine for tappet sound. You can also ask the owner to take you on a small TD with you as the pillion. Dont wear a helmet and you will be able to hear any odd sounds, tappet clicking, fairing rattles etc. On an R3 you should not be hearing anything except the sweet drone of the exhaust note

10) Now take TD yourself. You can check for balance by lifting your hands off the handle bars for a bit and take note if the bike veers left or right. Normally all bikes veer to one side or the other SLIGHTLY which can be fixed by service center guys. But wobbling, excessive veering to one side and twitchy handle bars are a problem.
One more thing! when you are done with the TD, press the engine kill switch. The engine should stop immediately, in one go.

11) Here are some other things you can check -
a) Turn the steering wheel left to right, there should be no stiffness or clicking sounds. Also handle should stop before hitting the tank of course (if it doesnt then that means the steering lock may have been broken at some point...thats a red flag).
b) Chain rust - The bike chain may get some spots of rust if it is not used regularly. Few spots here and there are not a problem.
c) Check oil level (need to keep the bike straight). Check coolant level (on the gear shifter side) and brake fluid levels front and back.

After all of this factor in the amount of maintenance you can do with all the cash you save from buying second hand and see if it still feels like a good deal. If it does go for it! Best of luck and apols for the long post.

Thanks hellgate. The bike is just 1 year old, thinking ill just top up with the coolant you suggested.

Folks I did some searching here in this thread before deciding to post, my question is about Motul 300V over Motul 7100, I know technically 300V is a better oil. What I want to know is how much of a difference do you feel between the two in terms of refinement. Thanks in advance

Im not sure if the price was good bargain or not but the bike is in great condition and the previous owner was genuine and service records were in order. Plus got two free service coupons inclusive of oil change so made it a decent deal I think.

Thanks
Considering the number of R3s in the used market, I feel you got a superb deal. Ride safe!
