Please could you explain in more detail regarding ABS feel/braking power when compared with the standard version (if you have ridden it before).

How does the addition of ABS make the feel of the REH more superior or did you see or feel some other changes to the bike along with the addition of ABS.

Hope to buy this bike sometime in Oct/Nov 2018, hence the questions.

Thanks in advance!

Ride safe.

Cheers
Thanks alot cyborgk,

Q: Please could you explain in more detail regarding ABS feel/braking power

A: Earlier actually i did a test ride the Non-ABS BS4 version during monsoon & i felt that with sensitive rear brake, the tyre skids if there is gravel on road but the motorcycle doesn’t go totally out of control. Now with ABS the rear break is more stable giving you more command on the Himalayan (No major changes for the front break)
Additionally combined breaking works effectively.

Q: On-road price for ABS
A: Now after 1st September 2018 due to mandatory 5year TP Insurance, the on-road price is yet to be out with 3months waiting for delivery.

Go for it, no regrets for buying one.
Proud to be an owner of Royal Enfield Himalayan✌🏻

Cheers.

After test ride, the Himalayan felt like it was the motorcycle to be purchased in 2018 but the dealer claimed that the Granite black is currently not available in stock.
In the last week of August the dealer said ABS is to be launched soon with 10-15k more cost, agreed!!

Finally on 2nd September it was delivered.
The dealer claimed to be getting it out from the first limited slot of Himalayan ABS in Mumbai.

The braking capability of the motorcycle with ABS is much improved as it has Dual channel ABS.[it cannot be Turned OFF]
Feel of the Royal Enfield Himalayan is more superior.

Man... this is a bit shocking... you actually got Himalayan ABS before the official launch?? Kinda unbelievable... Many congratulations btw... Me too booked the same in Aug'18 and the dealer is still perplexed for ABS launch date of REH here in Pune.

How much did you pay? You mentioned final price with 5 yr insurance isn't known, but am sure they would have taken full payment of bike before giving delivery or they gave you the bike without full payment of ex showroom price ?

Thanks. Seems the 5yr insurance is really jacking up the prices. Still unable to understand how will NCB of each year will be awarded to consumers.

Would it be possible to dish out your invoice and share the exshowroom price ? Just so that you can share the exact difference due to ABS

Dual channel ABS has increased the price by 11k. Guess RE is not exploiting and adding too much overheads on it. 17-18k odd is for the insurance for 5 yrs.

Question to insurance geeks - is it possible to buy comprehensive insurance and third party insurance separately? Reason, I can get insurance from portals like acko.com for much better prices than buying one through RE.

Ain't a geek, but AFAIK, it's always optional to buy insurance from the showroom. Once you select the particular piece, take the engine and chassis number, buy the insurance yourself, and present at the time of delivery. Usually you get the insurance within a few minutes of buying online. Most showrooms won't like it as they get commission of it too.

Thanks Vipergts07. I was aware of the dealers making commission. My question was if there could be 2 different policies at the same time on the same vehicle - one Comprehensive and the other Third party insurance.

Comprehensive ins as you have seen on acko includes 3rd party. What purpose/benefit would it be for to have seperate policies? Humans can have multiple life insurances, am not sure if it applies to vehicles.

The new policy rule primary favors Third Party or TP rather than Own Damage or OD. The reason you're paying upfront is for the third party insurance so that's one. Secondly, you have three options, at least with the new policy, packages, that is 3 year TP and 3 year OD and 3 year TP and 1 year OD and only 3 year TP and 0 OD cover. In the showroom you have upfront 3P options, either three years or five years as options. Most fail to ask about options and most showrooms are ill advised on their insurance policy in the first place to guide their customers accurately. As always the more the years the cover is, the better the revenue for the given insurance company.

You can always ask for options and choose your best options. If they resist, call up the regional manager of the respected provider and ask for clarifications, in most cases they advise you for the right options without being robbed in the name of insurance.

I thought I'd share this link

As per the court order, it is mandatory for all general insurance companies to issue a three-year third party insurance cover for new cars and five-year third party (TP) insurance cover for new two-wheelers

Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

THE END

Any pointers on how to maintain this bike other than regular servicing?.I lube and clean its chain every 500 km.
I have seen on other Himalayans(BS 3) that fuel cap on the tank gets rust easily.
Any product for preventing this from happening?
