Depends on the type of saddle bags you buy, if they are small and not sagging you can just throw them on the saddle, else it will sit on the botttom plate, whether it is retractable or not doesn't matter. better it is not retractable because anything moving on an RE will eventually rattle. But you need to ensure that the saddle bag mounts have atleast 2inch gap above the exhaust can.

Hi, I’ve been using saddle stays with foldable base bought online from Bandidos Pitstop.

Custom build motorcycle accessories and riding engineered and made in India. Bandidos is the ultimate home for all things motorcycles. From safety gear like helmets, riding jackets and shoes, gloves to accessories including mirrors.

Installed them in April 2018 when I’d taken delivery of my REH. Was super easy to install & all good so far. No rusting till date, though (as anticipated) I’ve had to make Velcro straps to keep the base portions from folding open when not needed. The hinges will loosen up after regular usage.

Not a deal breaker for the price of ₹1850/- plus the minor freight cost. They allow for adequate clearance from the silencer too.

I feel folding type stays make the bike look better when viewed from the front or back.

You could add this one to your list of available options.

Query about tires, do they get punctured easily? I am planning to visit remote villages in Leh, like Chushul on rented Himalayan. There won't be good roads and any help or even mobile signal.

Would it do ok or should I look into tubeless options? Offroad capability is obviously a big boon on such locations, so is first preference.

Nowadays a tube tire puncture kit named ayami fluid is becoming popular, you can try that to make tube tire tubeless. It's present in amazon

Tyres are good and won't get punctured if ridden sensibly, we had a couple of Himalayan's on our Spiti ride and there were just fine. Keep a spare tube just in case.

                      Guys,

Any idea on how to switch off the service reminder indicator? That blinking spanner in the console.
Had serviced before my bike crossed 4900kms so it wasn't reset during that time.

                      Thanks in advance

CarToq.com: Royal Enfield Himalayan OUTSELLS Bajaj Dominar.

The Dominar 400 was introduced in 2016 as Baja tried to take on the might of the Royal Enfield's cruiser motorcycles. However, if September's sales are anything to go by, the Dominar is failing to take on even the problematic Himalayan in the Indian motorcycle market.

                          To reset the service reminder:
with the key OFF press and hold and continue to hold the mode button, turn the key ON.
After five or ten seconds or so the the little blinking wrench should disappear, release the mode button and your done.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                            The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                            THE END

Greetings to all on here. I have put money down for a Himalayan and am researching to ensure I do a proper inspection of the bike before taking delivery. Apart from all the standard things, here are some which I jotted down as specific to the Himalayan. Would like to hear your thoughts on anything I should add/modify
                                - All "caps" fixed properly (unlikely to fall off)
                                - Clutch cable routing
                                - fuel tank breather hose routing
                                - ABS hose routing
                                - Spoke tension
                                - fuel gauge check

There are some parts on the Himalayan which I feel are either insufficiently reliable or altogether too flimsy to last if the bike is ridden like it should. Feedback / replacement suggestions requested.
                                - Saree guard : looks like it will take the chain cover mounts with it if left on.
                                - Indicators : very thin plastic and the lens will likely will get tossed off. Would prefer robust LED replacements but I don't know if the flasher is compatible.
                                - Steering head bearing : want to replace with tapered roller units but not sure of replacement part numbers.
                                - Continental GT heel plates
                                - Avenger mirrors (not a fan of the stock units)
                                - Handle bar? Not sure what I want as replacement.
                                - Knuckle guards? Again not sure what options to consider.
This is what I have for now. Appreciate your time and attention.

                                Cheers,
                                Ajith

Small contribution to the folks on here. Scanned service manual of a few variants. Only problem is that the scan quality isn't the best out there. Save a copy while you can. I did a search using thread tools and didn't see it posted. Please ignore if this is a dupe and has already been posted.
