  • Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan

    Hey all,

Been riding my friend's Himalayan for a long time now.

    Here's few points I noticed,
    +great for cruise on highway.
    - being 6'4" the tank guards touches my knees which makes difficult to hold the position while braking. ^ any solution for this?

    - The fuel gauge, I don't know why it is even given. ever since I got this bike from my friend, the needle never moved above red zone even after tank is full. pathetic RE quality.
    - gulps a lot juice if throttle is not linear when take-off. affects mileage. Unpredictable and unbelievable 13-28 km-pl in my case !! My petrol car gives more mileage than this

    - Crashed once and headlight assembly dome gets broken and worst part is its isn't available at service center. had to fit aftermarket useless led unit.

    Also,
Any guesses if we can retro fit the ABS kit on old Himalayan when ABS will get launched?

I need to change front tyre, any suggestion? Have anyone using front 21" other than CEAT?
    Please suggest!

    TIA.

Retrofit of ABS might not be possible. If at all it will be quite and expensive affair.

Did you ever feel the need for ABS considering REH max speed is about 120-125 and beat ride in 80-100 speed range

        - front tyre ? Here in EU we have the Pirelli MT60 which is quie good on road and not bad on trails except on wet grass .
        - ABS on this kind of bike is useful, for me, only if you ride a lot for commuting, suburbs, roads and so on .
Useless and innapropriate on tracks .
In case of a major rode offraods , will take it out.

How’s the wiring set up on your Himalayan for ABS? Can you take out a fuse to cut-off its functioning? Just curious to know.

Exactly : there is a fuse for both ABS , the very last one from right to left .
Did not try this already . Some had put a wiring command !

When asked about the price difference it would get, he informs to expect around 15-20K price increase.

Now doubtful what to do. Wait for ABS or get non ABS and save some ₹₹. About 14yrs of riding without ABS. Never has a wheel locking issue.
You might be a Rossi when it comes to riding but Indian roads are never predictable. An idiot can fall straight from the sky in-front of you. I recommend ABS 100%. ABS is a must for roads like India. The problem it the availability and price. Available only on a handful bikes and price is a bit more. But you never know when ABS might saves you. Better safe than sorry.

News doing the rounds: ABS retrofit not supported by RE for existing Himalayan models. Will void warranty RE says.

Still, I’m curious as to whether the retrofit will be feasible or not.

Would’ve been nice if it were possible but nothing I can’t live without personally.

Well Sanjeev. Happen to stumble across the RE showroom today and interestingly a young chap, from Mettupalayam with with "inner circle" knowledge had dropped to Ooty, and we had a grand gung ho to the RE 350 ABS. Conversing with him, the proposition to install ABS on the non-ABS is a PITA to say the least. Starting from the left fork leg to the to the ABS modulator, wiring, the digital console, it is an expensive proposition and he's right. Too much trouble to bother.

Well, we can call ourselves the "Samurais of Braking" if that can be if any solace.

                    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Seems the Himlayan ABS is round the corner. One showroom does have the Sleet Himalayan ABS. Check the video. If someone from same city then can walk-in and check

Should the possibility exist in future in terms of accessibility to the parts & skills required to add ABS, there’s another angle to the question of whether any one would consider a retro-fitment: ‘Cost’ & ‘work involved’ are terms that become subjective when it comes what each owner figures as the future with the machine he (or she) owns.

Personally, I’m quite happy so far with the REH BS4 in terms of what I got for what I’ve paid. Right now, my plans are to keep her in my garage as long as I can afford to. She’s a fun bike to own & quite easy on the pocket to maintain.

However, I’m only five months & 5000km into my ownership period. If she holds out well till another 5k on the odo, I for one wouldn’t mind checking into the costs involved for the ABS retro-fitment. I don’t see myself turning into an off-road enthusiast in the future, so most of my riding will be continue to be using tarmac.

Now whether the trouble & costs are warranted or not, well...that surely remains to be discerned too. No doubt, we can manage with the skills that’s kept us alive till date riding between two wheels. I’d agree with you on that point.

If at all the costings work out less than ₹30k (or there about) to ‘upgrade’, with all the necessary changes & add-ons - I wouldn’t mind one bit.

Moving on to a point that I feel RE could have done (like ten others on my list [emoji849]) is to have launched the BS4 version as ABS retrofit ready and left it to the public to choose as an optional upgrade today.

Wishful thinking, I know. When has RE actually worked in favour of its buyers, right?

                        • TOOK DELIVERY!! Royal Enfield Himalayan ABS BS4 2018 first in Navi Mumbai

Booked on 11th August 2018 at Royal Enfield, Thane > Himalayan BS4 Granite Black.
After test ride, the Himalayan felt like it was the motorcycle to be purchased in 2018 but the dealer claimed that the Granite black is currently not available in stock.
In the last week of August the dealer said ABS is to be launched soon with 10-15k more cost, agreed!!

Finally on 2nd September it was delivered.
The dealer claimed to be getting it out from the first limited slot of Himalayan ABS in Mumbai.

The braking capability of the motorcycle with ABS is much improved as it has Dual channel ABS.[it cannot be Turned OFF]
Feel of the Royal Enfield Himalayan is more superior.

Lovely, do keep your ABS review posted. This is one bike that can't make one satiated no matter how many reviews it gets both for prospective and present owners. Nonetheless, do keep your ownership review posted with good loads of photos.

                            Ride safe! And welcome aboard.

Congratulations and all the best with your REH ABS Jen!

Please could you explain in more detail regarding ABS feel/braking power when compared with the standard version (if you have ridden it before).

How does the addition of ABS make the feel of the REH more superior or did you see or feel some other changes to the bike along with the addition of ABS.

Hope to buy this bike sometime in Oct/Nov 2018, hence the questions.

                              Thanks in advance!
