I have booked the bike here in Mumbai. As per dealer the registration will take 10-15 days but he is saying that you can ride the bike on tc number. Is this OK? Very rarely I see a vehicle on tc plates in Mumbai which is common scene elsewhere.

You can ride but every place where police is standing they will harass you for papers. Also I think you cannot ride above certain kms on TC plates as per my knowledge.

Sorry instead of editing I deleted the message.
I would like to know some points with respect to Apache 180 which I currently own at the earliest since I am getting strong itch to upgrade.
          Headlight throw
          Engine heat along with vibration
Pillion seat height since sometimes my mother also sit as pillion .
The last point is most important as I love bikes very much but not more than my mother.

Headlight. Low beam is very good but high beam I'm not happy wid it as the illumination is less but not a very big issue
Engine. Even when riding in traffic u'l not feel the heat, and the vibration is almost non existent compared to old RTR
Pillion seat. The most important th;eing. even my mother sits pillion. First day I got scolded as she couldn't sit properly, but now she's comfortable sitting on the bike. The saree guard doesn't have second footrest, dats one problem but I'm waiting for new spares of sareeguard.

Thanks prasad garu for clearing my doubts, regarding foot rest for sari guard even 180 doesn't have it but separate foot rest is clamped with the help of nut and screw,so you can check if it is available in your locality as separate piece

                  Hi Guys,

I took delivery of my Apache 200 4V (Carb) last Sunday from Century TVS, Bhandarkar Road, Pune.

I have noticed a couple of problems that I wanted to check back with other owners.

Engaging only the front disc brake gives me a juddery / shaky braking feedback.. something similar to when the bike stalls but without the knocking in this case.
Anyone else noticing this with their bike ? When I showed this to the service center mechanics they said "Sir this is expected braking behaviour. You are not pulling the brake lever fully". But how/why would I pull the brake lever fully when I don't want to brake that hard ? I'm coming from a Pulsar 220F and a Yamaha R15 double disc setup and I have never experienced this with those bikes. Can someone help me understand what could cause this and how I can get this fixed ? Any help is appreciated.

Also, the speedo in my new bike is busted. It shows random speed values. Showed a 0 zero today when the bike was moving. See this -

I have a nasty feeling the dealer sold me a test ride vehicle. I test rode a Matte Grey 200 last weekend but when I took delivery this Sunday - it was missing !
The sales guy couldn't answer me clearly when I asked him where the test ride vehicle is. The ODO read 8 km but I don't trust an all digital HUD that can obviously be re-flashed via a data cable. What can I do to confirm whether the vehicle sold to me is a test ride vehicle or not ?

                  Thanks again

                  • Switching off engines at breaks

Hi guys, I own an RTR 200 carb version.

My habit is that whenever I see more than 20 seconds at traffic signal, I switch off my engine and start it when it's around 5 seconds remaining.

And also when I'm traveling long and I stop for a drink and pee break I don't switch off the engine immediately, I keep the engine idling for two minutes before I switch it off.

I wanted to know whether this habit is good or I need to changes any or both the habits?

                    Thank you

                      Hi,

"20 seconds at traffic signal, I switch off my engine" this is a good habit no matter what bike/car it is.
"I don't switch off the engine immediately, I keep the engine idling for two minutes" not necessary don't know what is the intention behind this.

                      Regards,
                      Mohan

Honestly, upgrading from 180 to 200 makes no sense to be frank because its hardly 3bhp increase and you wont feel much difference it will be very slight punch but you will be used to very soon and of course you get new goodies but, a general rule is that minimum 100 cc upgrade is more sensible a good 10 bhp difference.
Of course if your bike is not in a good condition and budget etc are concerns go ahead.
Regarding pillions seat no one can give you clear pointers because its your mom and can't say what is comfortable for her.
Why don't you both go for test ride ?
                      Regards,
                      Mohan

Both are good habits, anything excess of 25 to 30 seconds and switching off the engine is a good idea and saves fuel and saves on both wear and tear of the engine. Secondly, make sure, you don't turn it off/on every 10 seconds, that causes even more additional wear and tear, as you stop/start in less than 5 seconds. Anything above 30 seconds, good idea to turn the bike off.

Secondly, idling is not really necessary after a spirited ride. You can just stop the bike, let it idle for a few secs and turn off. There is no point idling the bike for more than 50 seconds after riding whatever kilometers.

But, idling the bike close to 50 seconds to 1 minute during early morning start ups especially on colder climates is a very good practice, as it allows the engine to get heated up adequately, the oil to get heated up and flow along the engine, instead of starting the bike and straight away gunning to the moon which is not recommended.

Check your coneset, check if it's loose, you shouldn't face any juddering/shaking when braking with front brake, it should be smooth. Secondly, either your console or your speedo sensor cable is at fault here. Check them both, keep us posted.

                        Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                        The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Try osram silverstar. It confines the beam and hence brighter.

Took a short test ride today and though I found it quite comfortable, my wife was very uncomfortable on the pillion seat. She says if you buy this - I am not going to ride with you! Is that a common feedback pillion riders offer for RTR 200?

Seriously, I am wondering why street bikes cannot offer comfortable seats for the driver as well as pillion? I don't want to settle for a commuter now - what option do I have for 250+ CC bike that offers comfortable seats (except Thunderbird)?

You can try for CBR250. It's a tested and proven bike since long time. Give it a try and Take a Test ride of that also.

Just for information asking, what colour of Apache 200 is available with dealers for test drive. I enquired at 2 dealers here in Gurgaon if bike is available for sale readily and both are saying that Grey colour is available. Doubt that it might be a TD bike which they might pretend to sell to me.
