Check the cover just under the seat - it could be a bit loose. The chain sound is pretty obvious - it is not like a rattle. I don't think this is the source of the sound that you are referring to.

How much has the bike run? Is the first service over?

Slightly off topic - TVS have specified a range of 500 - 750 kms to get the first service done. What are your thoughts on this? Is it better to get it done closer to 500 or to 750 and why?
My bike has done around 600kms and I am planning to get it serviced next week so by that time it would have completed around 650kms.

Yeah generally all the new bikes should undergo the first service around 500-750Kms ,be it Hero splendor or it be Suzuki Hayabusa !!

During the combustion a lot of heat and gases are released as the engine is pretty nee ,the heat will be more as the new engine (cam, rotor, crankcase, piston)etc works up !

Hence it's compulsory to drain completely the oil (which was filled during the vehicle manufacturing time) since the time would be around 2-4 months generally ; new engines use oil much higher than the old engines; shouldn't exceed the 4K RPM before first service ...andso on

There are many factors involved and that's the reason all manufacturers mention the running-in period of a new engine ! (Probably found within the first few pages of the Manual)

CONCLUSION: Do it for service as TVS has the Express delivery service in almost major towns and cities.
      * We can wait there and get the bike serviced within a hour for sure !(no additional charges)

      Hope this helps!
      Cheers,
      Ride safe

Its not the chain sound but a sound made by fiber part which is making sound like tapping. You must right about the seat as the sound comes usually when riding with pillion.

I have not checked Odo since the 1st service but I remember that 1st service was done at approx 650 Kms.

Coming to you Off topic - Since TVS have specified the 1st service range I think we should stick to it. Your decision of 650 Kms will not harm as its in the range. Before the 1st service, engine used to heat enough to feel it at toe. But post the service its gone.

Hello guys.... I have a problem. My chain is making some noise. I've tried adjusting with 2 different SVCs and a mechanic but the issue has not been resolved yet.

The sound is not distinctly noticable with the helmet but well audible while riding without a helmet. (I had no other way to confirm the presence or the intensity of the sound). The sound is most probably due to the chain rubbing against something.

If I put the bike on center stand and accelerate till 30-40 kmph and release the throttle and disengage the clutch, I get a sound like coasting in a bicycle.

Well the chain does make noise and it increases over the period of time mainly due to increased slackness. But it may also cause due to misalignment.

Check the alignment and adjust it if needed. Let us know if it helped.

I told the SVC guys and they have no f***in' idea what is alignment. I've decided to do it myself. Please tell what to do in detail.

I bought rtr 200 v2.0 few weeks back and just completed my first service. As I am planning for long term ownership for 8 years atleast, I would like to get clarified on few queries.

                1. How is the maintainence cost and durability of parts and engine in the long run. Is it easy to maintain? If I am changing engine oil periodically, lubing chain, changing air filter and spark plug as per user manual/when required, riding at speeds of 60 to 80 kmph (no rash drives), will that be enough or still requires any additional maintainence? I don't want to visit svc for general checkups once the free services are over except for works which I don't know to do such as chain sprocket change, tyre change, battery replacement, carb cleaning etc.. Moreover the svc is far away from my place and I have to wait for hours in svc even for small issues as the bikes coming per day are very high.

                2. Will the mileage drop as the bike clocks more kms? I have been hearing comments especially from Apache and pulsar owners that the mileage drops as the bike clocks more kms on odo and the mileage will be far lesser that it used to give initially. I don't know how far it is true. I have a unicorn 150 which has completed 30000 kms and it is still giving me 45 to 48 km/l in city traffic and I have not taken care on my unicorn also. There is no mileage drop on my unicorn. In case of rtr 200, will I face any such mileage drops as the bike clocks more kms despite me taking care of basic things like engine oil change etc.. as I mentioned in point no.1?

                3. How is the maintainenance cost of rtr 200 when I compared to Unicorn 150?

                Please help.

This is an American based YouTube channel, I've found many good stuff .

Definitely a care should be taken on your machine , periodically.

Not all can just have a spanner, wrench kit and do self service at home.
*Mostly all ASCs are crap ,just finish the 5 free services and then follow the certain periodical procedures.

Each and every parts have self-life and it's better to change them once their lifetime is over!

I hope the speeds 60-80 are not high , you can do triple digits with ease .
*You just find a reliable local mechanic and once free services are over , just leave it to him for regular oil intervals and full service. Once the bike crosses 15-25K kms much more things to be noticed and replace accordingly.(refer manual and follow those maintenance schedule).

*Spares are available in the ASC itself but you can buy the same with less price outside!(maintenance cost will be little higher than your unicorn but won't eat your pockets!)

*Nowadays all TVS ASC have their EXPRESS SERVICE ,by which we can wait there (waiting room) and within a hour the bike will be delivered to us !!
Am sure about this and you check it your ASC too.

*Regarding pulsar /Apache engine life I can't comment (not much experienced yet).

Motorcycle chains are a peculiar bunch, they provide different sounds based on different conditions. A loose chain, an unlubed chain, a tight unlubed chain and a tight chain all produce varying intensity of sounds and sometimes they all can be confusing. If you hear a sound that comes such as constant "zzzz" sound when coasting with the clutch disengaged, if yes, then that sound is perfectly normal, considering your chain is lubed, of right slack. The sound is basically friction from the rollers meshing with the sprocket. Chains aren't completely sound free, they do produce sounds of varying tones even based on stress when they're loaded up.

                      Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                      The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                      THE END

How to soften the rear suspension of rtr 200? I find it to be stiff. When I checked with svc guys, they told that the rear suspension is not adjustable. Is it true?

I hope they can be adjusted ,refer to the motorcycle manual provided and show it to the ASC

What the f*** bro..... The 200 4v has a 7 step (at least 5 if not 7) adjustable rear suspension. Things like these are making me lose confidence in the SVC guys.

No bro.... I don't think it can be done manually as it requires a special tool. BTW.... you want to get the suspension softer, I want it get it stiffer.... Preferences. I'll get mine adjusted during my next service.
