  • Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread

    Hi everyone

Just thought ill share my 2k Kilometer Review - Product and Service :

    Product :

1.Havent really driven it beyond 100 km/hr , but the bike runs a lot smoother now. No major issues whatsoever. Well, its a new bike !
2.Gears are really really smooth compared to initial days, i remember someone talking about Bajaj needing to improve their gear systems, No they dont need to ! I have a bajaj CT100 (more than a decade old) and that thing has 'think a gear and it shifts' gears.
3.Brake lights were constantly on at full blast even without pressing the brakes. - Just a twisted cable apparently and was fixed by SVC.(More on this nonsense below)
4.Rusting at some points on the underside of the chasis below the handle bar clamps. (when you look from underneath the bike)
5.Paint peeling off the wheel ribs.(had this issue from the start)

    Service :

My 2 services were quite a pleasant affair, though they left nasty sruff marks during the 1st service when removing the stickers on the tank and rear plastic.
Went one day to the svc to get the brake light issue looked into, some guy not in uniform attended and said the switch needs to be replaced. Was told it will cost 70 Rupees. I walked out telling them i need this replaced under warranty. They asked me to come next day morning. Went the next day, and a person in uniform attended to me, was really polite, and fixed the thing on the spot. It was all good, just a jammed or twisted cable apparently. I thanked him and walked out feeling good about the SVC and the bike, and myself. Discussed ECU update and a few other things, will get those done at 3rd service. SVC Tip - Dont go there in the evening. Drop in preferably before noon.

So overall, iam extremely pleased with this beautiful motorcycle, and i know i put my money in the right place.

      Hi fellow riders

I am a new horse in the herd and is about to complete 500kms. Now the motorcycle has completed 470kms and I am planning to do the first service within a day or two. Do you think it is fine? Or should I wait till it hits 500kms or more? Please share valuable experiences.

      Thanks

Tanx bro...one guy at SC told me it cannot be adjusted and comes as it is during 1st service and I did not care about it then.

Thanks. I have googled for raisers and all the results from - VitaTerra, Sahyadrimoto, Carbon Racing, and Lluvia have 1 inch raisers only.

If raising Dominar's handle bar by 1 inch makes them as reachable as old model of duke 390, that's good enough for me.

Here in delhi Karol bagh few guys bought the 1.5 and 2 inches raisers for around 700 to 800 with fitting. And change the clutch cable only. Those raisers are of aluminum.

Yes it can be easily adjusted but requires a special tool . They must not be having it in there tool kit or avoiding it for some other reasons.

Going for early service would never hurt. I to got my first service done around same time.
Try to be present there at time of service as it has come to notice that at few centers they put 20w50 semi synthetic oil where as the recommended grade is 10w50 bajaj dtsi 10000 and it comes in 1.5ltr pack costing around 1010.
Basic first service involves engine oil, oil filter, filter o ring and these needs to be paid for. Chain clean and coolant topup is done foc at first service if not everywhere but here in delhi.

It is present in every bike and is a kind of an overflow pipe. Nothing to worry.

              • New Bike Booked. Now what?

                Bhaiyon Pranam.

Today I booked my Dominar. Expecting delivery in a couple of weeks allowing for my schedule.

I know this question has been asked many times in this forum. But, I will ask it again as I could not find a suitable response.

Is there a PDI checklist for this bike in particular? If yes, where can I find it. I saw Vikas's video on youtube. But, other than that, all the other PDI lists are too vague for me. Of course, I know to check the lights, indicators etc. But, when the list has a line item saying "Shock absorber" or "Brake Discs", I am lost. I mean, what am I supposed to look for in checking these components?

Also, is there another list that shows how to check if the bike has been ridden? I can check the common sense areas such as foot pegs and tank. But aside from that, is there a fool proof way to check it? And which is the wire that connects to the odometer (that I need to check isn't disconnected)?

                Thank you

Any recommendations on what wattage fog lamps should be compatible on the dominar.

Has any one ridden extensively with the foglamps on... Have you noticed any drain on the battery or load on the electricals.

20w*2 is most commonly used and would be safe for battery.

Check front shock for any leakage from seal area , same for rear and also check shocks mounting bolts. Feel the disk rotors with hand to check for uneven surface or any nicks or dents.
Check tyres and hand grip and footpegs to see and feel if there is any wear.

Aerosol spray paint, or give it some graphics using stickers.

I want that adjustable clutch like in Duke 390. If I change it before free service will it void bike's warranty. If not where should I buy it and will SC guys help fixing it?
