I have just completed 2nd service after 4.7k kms and learned from SA that I should fill Speed to avoid throttle lag issue, is it true? I have been filling normal petrol so far. Got the ECU updated this time to fix the throttle lag, but I am concerned on which fuel I should be filling going forward.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Normal is good enough you can use speed or above at every 3rd fill. Normal is 91 octane which is also the recommended garde by bajaj. Higher octane fuel usually benefit engines with high compression ratio where as this is not the same.Originally posted by siva1001 View PostI have just completed 2nd service after 4.7k kms and learned from SA that I should fill Speed to avoid throttle lag issue, is it true? But using higher octane won't harm.
Use it for a while and see the difference but before that run on normal fuel to see the effect of new ecu update.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Hi siva and Ijs ,
Both Speed and Regular Fuel are the same 91 Octane, Speed , Power or Xtra Premium are the exact same fuel with additives added, and most use the brand 'STP' additive which are supposed to prevent fuel injectors gumming up. But that was many years ago when FI technology was new, and the older injectors were prone to clogging over time , additives were introduced as a standalone product in some countries (USA, Europe) to get around this issue. Some oil companies thought its a good idea to charge a premium on these products and promote them as better than normal fuel. They neither make your vehicle faster, or more powerful. And it does absolutely nothing to improve your fuel efficiency either, in case of new vehicles.
There is a Speed 97 Octane available in some upmarket fuel pumps, now this one is different rating and only used for a few sports cars who might recommend it.
My advice, stick with regular fuel.

I agree to sticking to regular fuel however these premium fuels offer better combustion.Originally posted by Indivar View PostHi siva and Ijs ,

Engines with high compression ratios perform much better with these fuels. Check your vehicle compression ratios and fill accordingly.
Better combustion means less sludge in exhaust manifold, pipes etc. so cleaner internals. That’s what they advertise.
Even in other vehicles these premium fuels offer cleaner engine internals. That’s good for the price they ask. No issue, if you use premium fuels. If you are someone who flips bikes after 50K, then why bother.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
How to know the ECU version? I don't know whether I am eligible for the update, which fellow riders have been discussing in this thread. Also, could someone tell me which is old version number and the updated version number. Thanks

When did u bought it, was there any small white v2 sticker on the speedo meter.Originally posted by mraravind View PostHow to know the ECU version? Only the service center can tell the ecu version by connecting bosch obd device.
115 is for non abs and 116 is for abs the latest ecu files.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Hi friends,
Just now got a call from my Bajaj service center. The SA was inquiring about my bikes service detail. I told him about my first service @700 km. Then he suggested to bring the bike for second servicing after completing 3000 - 3500 km. Right now my odo is at 2600 km. I asked him that as per the owner manual second service is due after 4500 km. Then he told that Bajaj engine oil is good for around 3000 km. So it s better to replace the oil every 3000 km.
Guys please suggest what to do?

If they have filled 10w50 dtsi 10000 oil at last service then go for next service at 4.5k kms or 5k kms. But if 20w50 is used which is the wrong grade and is semi synthetic oil then u should get it topup or changes at 2.5k kms after the last oil change.Originally posted by DJD View PostHi friends,

One more thing service period and intervals also depends on number of days do refer ur user manual for it.

This is the oil to be used at bajaj Service center for dominar400.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Hey guys need a bit of your help here. My suspension seems way too stiff. I could even feel the smallest poth hole. Does my suspension look normal? What is that black tube? And why does it look more pressed than normal?

This doesn't clear any thing show the groves at the bottom of the shock the stock position has a green dot. And if u go anti clockwise the it would soften the suspension.Originally posted by Jerry_E View PostHey guys need a bit of your help here. My suspension seems way too stiff. Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Thank you for the reply. As you said, i think they put 20W50 in my bike. That may be the reason they are calling me for service. Whether this wrong grade will have any adverse effect on the engine? No it won't have any bad effect but it burns at a faster rate and get consumed more faster so the level can get low after 2.5k kms so a topup is needed or a replacement. Infact few engineers recommend using semi synthetic for new engine.Originally posted by DJD View PostThank you for the reply. As you said, i think they put 20W50 in my bike. But do insist on getting the 10w50 full synthetic at next service and if they don't have it get your own from market.
Using the recommended grade oil is always better.

Thank you. In my next service i will definitely ask for 10w50 fully synthetic oil.Originally posted by Ijs View PostNo it won't have any bad effect but it burns at a faster rate and get consumed more faster so the level can get low after 2.5k kms so a topup is needed or a replacement. Is this image ok?Originally posted by Ijs View PostThis doesn't clear any thing show the groves at the bottom of the shock the stock position has a green dot. And if u go anti clockwise the it would soften the suspension.
Also my radiator's coolant level is completely full. No, it was not after driving, it was before I took it in the morning And it stays like that. Is that fine?

Ur suspension is at the stock setup and now u can easily count how many points u can soften it by going anti clockwise but avoid going more than 2 points softer.Originally posted by Jerry_E View PostIs this image ok?

If coolant level is above max mark then do get the excess removed. Slightly above max is ok but not any more.
